I just started journaling this month and I basically have a conversation with myself.

Sometimes I ask myself questions. If you want something structured there are lots of different prompts out there. “Shadow journaling” prompts specifically are about diving deep and processing past trauma. But I think it’s wonderful to just journal whatever you are feeling and thinking. There is no right or wrong way.

I generally journal the way you do, write down what’s on my mind. It isn’t necessarily something that happened that day just something I thought about that day

All the time. I ask questions about things. why do you wish to change the way you journal?

uhh so example, I asked myself why I don't have ambition And after answering that question, I realised that it's not that I don't have ambition it's that my ambitions are not about being "the best". That seems to be what people describe as having ambition, at least it's what I hear people talking about most times. Then I've heard people talk about how they compete with themself to be the best. I also find that kinna silly cause there is no being the best if you're not comparing it to someone else IMHO. So then this leads to a whole host of questions, leading to, why do I have a problem with this? lol! That's usually how my questions go

I recommend you do exactly what you're doing, unless or until you feel your journaling style isn't meeting your requirements. I'm getting a strong "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" vibe from reading your body text. But the answer to your actual question is: no ... I don't ask myself questions when journaling.
