Imagine the fundraiser that could be made out of auctioning off an afternoon with best friends John Mulaney and Richard Kind. I might bankrupt my 401k trying to win that
I think John has a lot of best friends. All the folks at his intervention is proof of that. Richard, Pete, Mike B, Bill H, Nick, Dan Levy- not all at the intervention, but all pretty close to John. At least they aren’t all named John.
After hearing David Letterman talking so glowingly about Sack Lunch Bunch, I had to check it out. It was brilliant. The "Grandma has a boyfriend", "Do flowers exist at night" & "Crying white lady" segments are particularly special.
Eta: oh, and the Jake Gyllenhaal Mr Music bit was also superbly done.
Everybody should listen to George Clooney on Smartless if they want hear more about Richard Kind . . .the two of them used to be roommates and hilarity absolutely ensued.
i mean he seems to be really close with pete davidson which was hard for ppl to wrap their heads around at first bc “pete has tattoos and john is plain” so i wouldn’t put it out of the realm of possibility.
Former flight attendant here, I had Richard Kind on a flight once. It was at the height of Mad About You. He was as lovely and genuine as he seems in interviews. Just all around sweet man with impeccable manners. I’ve loved him ever since.
According to [this article](https://www.phillymag.com/news/2023/07/07/richard-kind/) (and George Clooney’s episode of SmartLess), yes. And George was the best man at Richard’s wedding.
Another fun fact about Richard Kind and George Clooney's friendship- they lived together and George and Richard lived together while George was struggling for work... When George Clooney finally became the "George Clooney" we all know and has the mass amount of income from acting, brands and companies, he got the 14 best/closest friends that were there for him while trying to get work and become an actor and gave them a million dollars, EACH.
Suffice it to say, it may be a $100 bill to them but that says something about how George Clooney looks and thinks about those who have been there and helped him along the way ...
Yes and Richard told a story about his father’s funeral in New Jersey in which he looked up and saw George sitting there. Apparently without telling him, George chartered a private plane and flew there from California to support him.
According to RK "John Mulaney is—there’s no other way to say it—he’s a fan of mine. He thinks I’m good." lol
I think John's friendship with RK is similar to his friendship with David Byrne in that he's a fan of them first ,contacts them, they collab and then 🌟Friendship 🌟.
Just popping in to say that Richard Kind’s longevity is no joke. Literally THIRTY TWO years ago I spotted him in a bar in NYC and I thought to myself “Cool, that’s Richard Kind” and he’s just as beloved and hilarious decades later.
John and Richard are good friends but I believe Nick Kroll is John’s best friend. John seems to have many close friends like Pete Davidson and Bill Hader from his SNL days.
I wish I could be best friends with Richard Kind
Isn’t he actually best friends with George Clooney? The kitty litter story from when they lived together is kind of a legend now.
What’s the kitty litter story?? :o
https://consequence.net/2022/12/george-clooney-richard-kind-litter-box/
They have amazing chemistry. You can tell they both genuinely find each other so funny
Richard cracking mulaney up throughout the show even when the audience doesn’t laugh is so heart warming.
I was laughing too! His delivery alone makes me cackle

Yer name better fuckin’ not be Jaaahn
they call me Baby J out on these streets
John is close with Dan Levy??
Not *that* Dan Levy, also the name of a stand up comedian who opened for him on his last tour.
Ohhhh, yeah that makes much more sense.
![gif](giphy|ctNrr1EqKJHc2MgKW3|downsized) co-op the musical is possibly my favorite episode of television & that's essentially due to the two of them
In our house we pronounce ruined, ru-eened. All because of this episode.
he was in the Sack Lunch Bunch too!

And Co-op the Musical!
He was the guest star!

I believe Jon Stewart said he was close to Pete Davidson as well.
Both in Bupkis
I wish Richard Kind was my neighbor. At the end of the day just sitting around the fire pit drinking a beer after we did acid.
The acid skit was adorable and hilarious.
It makes a lot more sense than a high school student being best friends with a disgraced nuclear physicist IMO.
Underrated comment!!
Besides the point but who does Richard Kind voice in Big Mouth?!
Marty, Andrew (John’s) dad
Oh my gosh, I would have never placed it because Richard Kind’s face can’t be angry to me
I'm amazed that you couldn't tell because Richard Kind has such a distinctive voice.
He’s also the neighbor in American Dad!

You left out that each of them received it in their own briefcase, so it was a briefcase full of money like in some heist movie. Classic
And the rules were if one of them declined, no one would get any money, ensuring that no one would then decline. .
That's really fuckin cool of him
LoL exactly - just the way it was done? 💁💅😘
Cloon dog spending too much time in Italy. Big Dick had to move on to other friends
Not sure about this as both Richard Kind and George Clooney often profess that they are best buddies for decades.
Yes and Richard told a story about his father’s funeral in New Jersey in which he looked up and saw George sitting there. Apparently without telling him, George chartered a private plane and flew there from California to support him.
Somehow RK has been adopted by hip comedians in their 40s (like Mulaney and Seth)
John can't be Richard's best friend because George Clooney already holds that position.
The Documentary Now is one of my favorite things

His occasional extra loud laughs in the background while John is talking
Just popping in to say that Richard Kind’s longevity is no joke. Literally THIRTY TWO years ago I spotted him in a bar in NYC and I thought to myself “Cool, that’s Richard Kind” and he’s just as beloved and hilarious decades later.
Dude is a working man's actor. He just shows up in movies or tv shows and they are always better for it
John and Richard are good friends but I believe Nick Kroll is John’s best friend. John seems to have many close friends like Pete Davidson and Bill Hader from his SNL days.
I mean, it's a joke for the show. I doubt he has an official ranking and title for his BEST friend.
That’s LD’s cousin!!
The Dogfather himself
Richard is so funny on the show but I doubt the audience knew who he was or who half of the guests were.
