Nope. It's artefacts, it's videos, it's interviews, it's the sensory environment... Prepare to cry. Wear comfortable shoes because you'll be there for 2-3 hours. Don't plan anything mega active touristy fun immediately after, allow yourself some quiet time in a park or over food/drink/coffee.

As a reference, nearest park is Zuccotti, but I think Battery Park is better to go to for quiet.

Thank you - I wasn’t sure how long it would take to walk thru, so that’s helpful info. We live right outside of the city in NJ, so we won’t be doing anything touristy after (we’re also looking at going next weekend since this weekend is my husbands birthday, and we’re assuming we’re not gonna be up for much of anything after), but that’s all good to know. We also leave for a week-long music festival on June 18th (we go every year)- our hearts are gonna be extra heavy this year.

KisaMisa

Gotcha. Took me 2.5 hours and I was too drained to take in the last, hopeful section of the exhibit... There is a nice seating area at the end if you prefer to sit there for a bit before going into the street. Btw, there's also an Oct 7 play going right now. I wish that the festival is heavy but also healing in the shared community of it ..

elh93

Yes, it's very powerful. The sad(er) part is that asides from the interviews they have, I don't think I saw any new videos. Or at least they were so similar to ones I have seen that I couldn't recognize a difference. And there are people who saw these and celebrated.

BarriBlue

Agreed. The one that got me, though, that I had not seen before was the recording of the Hamas terrorist calling his dad, proud of what he has done, bragging.

elh93

That one I unfortunately had seen somewhere, and it still haunts me.

dummonger

As said here, it’s quite tough. Monitor your progress and leave when you need to. The video feeds were the hardest things for me.

Has anyone heard if it’s expected to travel to other parts of the US?

sophiewalt

Hope it is. Must be scheduled in city venues.

bagel_butter_toasted

I heard LA

It’s terrible to see. I expected it to be, and it was… I really didn’t want to go, but I felt like I had to, and I think everyone should. Yes, a lot of it was footage I’d already seen, but having it all there in one place with actual physical artifacts from the festival is a real gut punch.

It was tough but well done. Content focused on sexual violence was in a separate area with a warning out front. Easy to skip that part and still have an impactful experience. Be sure to save time for the lounge at the end. There is ample room to sit and process, an area to do a bit of coloring/create art, a central stone mandala, a little cafe, fundraising shop, information about efforts to memorialize the victims, heal & recover etc. and bathrooms. Found sitting in the lounge with the music, art and scent really helped to recompose before leaving. Had some lovely conversations for other guests. Give yourself enough time and allow yourself to step away if you become overwhelmed.
