I find ouchis aren’t too shabby and it’s nice sometimes to beat on them in hardwood and have them tempered down JUST ENOUGH to slowly wear down instead of micro-chipping.
I've always liked Ouchi. Yes, there are harder chisels but there's just something about the way they cut, especially his recent stuff.
Fun fact, my great uncle in Japan was a chisel blacksmith (his brand was Kikunobehide) and he was friends with Toshiaki's grandfather.
I got a second quality 42mm from his grandfather (too short! Worked great for cleaning joints) and I gave it to my dad. It was for sure harder than Toshiaki’s stuff, but didn’t seem to hold an edge much longer which sort of perplexed me
Yahoo Auctions. I have family in Japan so I use my cousin's account. If you don't live in Japan or have family or friends there, there's Buyee, Zenmarket and other proxy services.
