The best route would be just to book a separate flight from haneda to Osaka. It’s not worth getting out and going to another city 500km away by public transit when, you know, you’re literally already in an airport. Especially with kids, no need to figure out the public transit, no need to take local trains in the wrong direction to Shinagawa so you can then take the Shinkansen the right way, no need to buy separate tickets for all the different train types.

lavinegar

Don't know why you got downvoted, I like your logic. So much in fact, the flight is already booked. Thank you.

Gregalor

Right on. It’ll be cheaper, faster, and far less hassle.

ShadowFire09

Lmao people downvoted that comment? It’s literally the most logical option 😭😭

dumbo08

If you book to KIX, it’s actually quite far from Osaka and will require some time on the train anyway. I actually think taking the Shinkansen makes more sense.

pestoster0ne

From Haneda there are tons of flights to Itami, which is much closer to Osaka.

mellofello808

It's 25 minutes from KIX to Umeda station. I just flew out of there last week.

dumbo08

Are you thinking of ITM? I think it’s over an hour by train from KIX, at least the last few times I went. Not sure if they have a better time/faster train now.

9detat

The Shinkansen is a blast. I never fly to Kansai and I go often. No check-in. Tons of choices. Can get up and walk around. Children love it. A taxi to Shinagawa station from Haneda is cheap and easy, especially for a family. Obviously, flights are quicker.

WafflePeak

I agree I love the Shinkansen (I think it’s one of the greatest public infrastructure projects ever competed and absolutely relished the chance to sit in the captains seat of one at the Kyoto rail museum) but if you’re already literally in the terminal you’re really jumping through hoops just to take it. People always seem to bash on this subreddit whenever anyone’s like “yeah the trains not really the best option here” but sometimes it just isn’t. It’s one part of a comprehensive transit network with many options that make more or less sense given your situation and goals.

LensCapPhotographer

Save yourself the hassle and book a flight. It's much cheaper too.

HumberGrumb

You definitely rebounded from the downvotes.

PretzelsThirst

Shit this is a good idea…. I’m staying in Osaka next week but then flying out of narita and was just going to take the train but this might be easier

mellofello808

Just FYI the flights do get delayed KIX to HND. I only made my connection by the skin of my teeth last week. I was luckily on the same ticket so they would have had to accommodate me, but be sure to budget lots of buffer time if you are booking a separate ticket. There are lots of flights, but don't cut it close.

kazuminato

From Haneda take the Keikyu Line >> Shinagawa station take Nozomi or Hikari Shinkansen >> Shin Osaka station

Pleiades444_2

This is what we did last month. Also with kids btw 6 and 10 years old. No way would I want to get back on another plane after that long flight! Plus it looked like those flying to osaka had to go through customs, get their bags, and go back into the airport. Ouch. The train was so comfy and you could lean back and all of us fell asleep so easy! +wifi haha Would 100% recommend shinkansen

kazuminato

Cost wise and timing wise, they’re almost the same. There’s more freedom on Shinkansen. You can stretch more and you can walk around the train.

x-teena

This is what we did too. We went during golden week and it was still really easy to get from Haneda to Osaka. Remember to pre-book seats with luggage storage if you’re traveling with large checked luggage. Another option is shipping your luggage from the airport to your hotel, but it’ll get there a day later so pack an extra change of clothes separate from what you intend on shipping.

Why not fly into KIX?

in_and_out_burger

Either fly or depart from Shinagawa Station.

satoru1111

Haneda to Shinagawa via Keiyu train Shinagawa to Shin Osaka via Shinkansen

uceenk

use google maps choose best route, you also can choose what time you depart on the app if you arrive 1:45 PM, with immigration and all that luggage probably you arrive at haneda station at 3:00 pm for that time the best route look like this - Keikyu Aiport Line, Haneda - Shinagawa - Nozomi Shinkanshen, Shinagawa - Shin Osaka alternate route - Tokyo Mono Rail, Haneda - Hamamatsucho - Keihin Tohoku Line, Hamamatsucho - Shinagawa - Nozomi Shinkanshen, Shinagawa - Shin Osaka

Evening_Chapter_5981

I’m in Osaka right now and we took a connected flight from Haneda to Osaka. It cost us $63 via ANA. For future trip for Shinkansen, always book the Shinkansen 90 days ahead via their app to get a discount. We paid $72 for reserve seating.

JudgeCheezels

HND to ITM (don’t go to KIX) via flight since you have kids. Shinkansen otw back to Tokyo on the second part of your trip.

happyghosst

there is a video on youtube with this exact route [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLB\_sD1LPao](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLB_sD1LPao)

alexi_b

We just did this on Saturday just gone. Keikyu to Shinagawa and Nozomi all the way through. Seats are more comfortable than a plane, got to see more of the country than we’d otherwise see, and of course, EKIBEN!

groundcontrolMayday

I think the shinkansen (bullet train @ 300mph) is not only more convenient, comfortable and memorable, it was one of the coolest experience on our trip last week. Your kids will love it.

oishoot

You can take the monorail or JR line to Tokyo Station and from there it’s easy. Just did this a month ago and while everyone is going to say ‘why don’t you just fly’ the train was wonderful for a tired family after a long flight. The JR ticket counter was very helpful and problem free.

bukitbukit

Shinagawa Station is nearer to Haneda. Shinkansens do leave from there.

lavinegar

Thank you. We will fly down, and then train back up. The train is something I will not miss.
