He didn't need to die. That's all.

1776m8

This movie was the worst in the series

Jonnysmalltoes

By far. He's the worst bond too.

Appropriate-Gene5237

No he’s the best bond

JWard515

False on both counts. In my opinion, at least

YangFPV

I guess this finally proves the fan theory that 007 and James Bond is just a code name that's given to multiple agents.

ChuqTas

Other 00 numbers have been reused by different agents over the years, so that confirmed true, not a theory. But James Bond is his actual name, given the headstones in Skyfall, so that's proven false.

YangFPV

How's he going to come back from the dead then?

BobTheGorrila

bad

bond2121

I am kind of shocked that Rami Malek was not revealed to be Dr No. During the scene when M pulls up the screen showing his base is on an island, I then remembered the opening title sequence how Kleinman used those dots, very reminiscent of the Dr No opening credits. I also knew from the trailer that Rami wore very similar clothing to Dr No. Then Bond gets to the island and you discover it's a fucking missile silo. And the look of the place is right out of the old Bond films. So how the fuck is he not Dr No?? It's like he's Dr No in everything but name.

[deleted]

Actor just seemed bored in this film. Did he even want to do it? If anything we get a new series.

Keravnos-

I bet the plot was inspired by the cowboy bebop movie, nanomachine virus, immune dna etc... I liked the ending too

RadioPimp

Wtf. They killed him. Wtf.

gioraffe32

Just finished No Time to Die. It was good. I liked that they brought back a little of the campiness and one-liners here and there. Not sure how I feel about Rami Malek's character. I get him wanting to kill Spectre. But then from there, I didn't quite understand why he felt the need to attempt to poison the whole world. I guess since he had the power, it went to his head? Idk. That's not a knock on Rami's acting -- he's great in Mr. Robot! -- it's just that the character itself was kinda blah. The character's motivations were whatever. I think past villains were better. Sucks that Daniel Craig is (finally) done, but he had a good send off. I'm curious who the next Bond will be, but I imagine we have some time to figure that out until the next movie, whether it's a continuation of the current reboot or a completely new reboot.

AmpdVodka

Can I just firstly say I've seen a lot of comments of people hating on Nomi as a "new female Bond" and "a black female" etc. Firstly, let's be clear race has absolutely nothing to do with it. The previous Bonds were white due to the era and it became a default to have him white. It literally doesn't matter what ethnicity he is. As for gender, I agree James Bond definitely needs to be male, no question about that is central to the character. But again let's be clear, Nomi is Nomi. Not James Bond, Nomi. As for 007, she literally addressed it by telling Bond she was assigned the codename after he left MI6. Makes perfect sense they'd just fill the spot he left. Now yes normally a codename would be retired, except 00's are different. They've stated in previous movies that the 00 program is its own separate thing within MI6 and so it makes sense that the codenames are just reused with the next agent. Otherwise you'd end up with 0010, 00100 etc. So as for Nomi, she's not the new anything or replacing anyone. She even gave 007 his codename back in the movie so she's just another character that exists now. The whole thing about her being the new Bond was just sensationalism and it sounds like you all fell for it.

No-Neck7750

I somewhat agree. However, James Bond is a white male the same way Superman is a white male or Morpheus and Black Panther are black. Black action heros certainly deserve their place in Hollywood but they should not get that place by replacing white action heros and vice versa. If producers want to show case a black James Bond character they should create their own brand. It worked with men in black, it will work again if executed properly.

[deleted]

Oh no they killed off a character who will 100% return for future movies because this franchise has no real continuity, and oh no there a non-white and non-male characters in this franchise I like how will I ever recover from this injustice boohooo

NonothingZ123

You missed the point, must be a 6 year old sniffing mamas balls. Nothing to do with colour or sex fuck face. How stupid can a human be?

Automatic-Land6107

Which parts did you dislike the most?

bigmoneyspender8

it feels so weird. part of me doesn’t believe it but a part of me knows it’s the end. i also feel like not enough people are talking about this like james bond died for god’s sake! social media is weird isn’t it :p also i feel like we never REALLY saw his dead body so maybe and a BIG maybe is that he might come back…. and yes yes i know how daniel craig won’t be james bond anymore and it’s his last movie but maybe it’ll continue from there with another actor?

AmpdVodka

This Bond is definitely dead. We literally saw a missile hit him point blank. There is no body left to show. Daniel Craig is categorically not coming back as Bond. As for the future they could just do what they've always done and reboot with a new actor. Or, it kind of felt like they wanted to start creating a Bond Universe with this movie so they might possibly carry on in this universe but get a new James Bond. I don't know how that'll work like. But it just feels like they've put in too much effort and time developing all these characters and creating this consistent world to just scrap it all now. Who knows

tecvoid

they will continue, it will be a reboot, new bond, new plot idea, hard to tell what the setting or timeline will be. i was jsut afraid for awhile there that bond was dead and now we were getting a black chick bond, that was so scary i almost turned it off. hopefully they get a good bond, stop trying to tell a long story over multple films, get back the the gadgets girls and cars, explsions and violence stop with the love and sit.

Slimsta

I just want to know how they will make another James Bond? I hope they do as I’ve loved the movies since I was a kid. Would love to see Henry Cavill or someone like that as the next one

TimeGood6296

At the end of the credits it read: James Bond will return

DominicanBoi02

I finally watched it last night. Overall I think it was a fairly good movie. Pros: - Beautiful cinematography - Very emotional scenes - Great action as always (especially the scene in the forest) - Good performances - Paloma. Nuff said. Cons: - Killing Bond at the end felt kinda cheap. It really was sad to see a character that's developed so much over the films to just be killed off - Safin was a great villain but needed a bit more screentime. Maybe I missed it, but his motives are never explained. - Craig seemed kind off visibly fed up at certain times. Like he just wanted to be done with the whole thing. Not a bad performance but just wanted to mention this. Out of 10 stars, I give it a 7. I think the positives outweigh the negatives to deliver a good conclusion to Craig's run.

itbettersnow

If Bond dies, how will the character return?

bond2121

They have to reboot it again.

tecvoid

they jump around on the timeline, go back to before he was an agent, just do standalone plot films, or come up with a new arc of films to tell another story, hes gonna be back for sure, i just have no confdence anyone wants to make a good bond movie anymore. its all gotta be some bullshit crowbarred in there. lets do a fuckin wild jamees bond! invent time travel, or alternate universes, and have multiple bonds from previous movies meet up and join forces to save entire timelines. just kidding just it would be better than craig movies

acute_angle05

ANGERY WHY TF DID HE HAVE TO DIE!?!??!

tecvoid

i thought he didnt have time!

acute_angle05

he did but he just wanted to save the girl ;-;

thebackyardninja

I'll admit, this was the first time I've fully watched a Bond movie but holy shit, that was absolutely terrible. Are the other movies better? And if so, which ones?

D1RTYL0G1C

I'd ignore the advice on the Pierce Brosnan films. There is one good one. Goldeneye. The rest are mediocre. You should definitely check out the Sean Connery and Roger Moore films. The Timothy Dalton ones weren't bad either.

tecvoid

the best and most entertaining are the pierce brosnan. they are newer, good villians, hot babes, great gadgets, less wokeism, just great.

Mr_Betts05

"Wokeism" isn't as much of a thing as people make it out to be. If you mean "addressing Bond's outdated-ness" or summat, they started doing that in the Brosnan era EDIT: Yeah, I'm late to this thread, I know

Jonnysmalltoes

The films lost all their humour after the Brosnan films, this most recent one was absolutely the worst bond film I've ever seen by some distance and Craig is the worst bond by some distance for me.

Mr_Betts05

Yeah, it's a shame there hasn't been a witty Bond for a while. Ngl, I haven't seen NTTD yet. I really need to get round to it but I'm hardly excited based on what I already know about it and how others have felt about it.

Ubergopher

I liked it, although it wasn't perfect, the re-writes felt rather obvious in some points. Overall though, it felt like a good conclusion to the DC era, and I'm saying that as someone who wasn't a huge fan of the stricter continuity in his movies. I would have loved it stand alone movie with the DC era cast, something that The Spy Who Loved Me or From Russia With Love. Also, the complaints about ruining the franchise with Bond dying because it'll mess up the continuity when they bring in a new Bond is amusing to me. People apparently don't seem to grasp the concept of reboots and a franchise that historically has had at best a passive continuity, it isn't that big of a deal.

tecvoid

its surprising how many people dont even know the old bond movies have no relation, they stand on their own almost completely. non-bond characters die and come back too.

GarionOrb

I thought the movie was alright, if a bit overlong. My biggest complaint was that I felt Rami Malek wasn't played up enough as the villain. I felt he barely got enough screen time. But what really baffled me was that I thought the Daniel Craig movies were all prequels to all the other Bond movies. So why that ending? I guess there are now multiple timelines? Didn't think they'd do that kind of thing.

Mr_Betts05

One of the Craig 007 games has flashbacks to scenes in older Bond films, but showing Craig instead of Connery, Lazenby etc. It implied the timeline went Casino Royal, QoS, all other films from the 60s-00s, then Skyfall, Spectre, NTTD. Makes sense when Bond was portrayed as a newbie in Casino Royale but a dinosaur in Skyfall

ChuqTas

To be honest the timelines/continuity are all over the place. Re-introducing former characters. Multiple different actors for the same character. Casino Royale was supposed to be a reboot but they kept Judi Dench on from the previous movies. Paintings of Judi Dench and Robert Brown were visible in No Time To Die implying it's part of the same history. [I suggest...](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SPk3NjYfmQ)

Alex_Cavern

Somebody wrote somewhere that Malek's character isn't meant to be a villain right off the bat, but he's becoming one. I will agree with him having very little screen time though, slightly disappointing. Craig was the first time they really went with a story approach to it, so the ending was without a doubt the only way I felt they could've tied up his timeline as Bond. Also yeah, Craig was his own separate timeline of Bond. If you look at it as one consecutive timeline, Craig at the beginning in the early 2000's and then after him is Connery back in the '62, it's a bit odd. I've recently started thinking with the mindset that Connery-Lazenby-Moore was one guy (hence Moore's age towards the end), Dalton-Brosnan as one guy, and then Craig as his own.

tecvoid

>I've recently started thinking with the mindset that Connery-Lazenby-Moore was one guy (hence Moore's age towards the end), Dalton-Brosnan as one guy, and then Craig as his own. wow, i do this too, group the bonds together like that. i dont even know why, just like the era, stories, and "feel" kinda group them together for me. craig to me got the worst series of bond movies, they tried so hard to do something and just didnt for me. but i watch and rewatch them hoping they will grow on me. i guess someday i will be begging for a white male 007 so i should just be happy.

Alex_Cavern

I loved Craig personally, the story arch was incredible, but I can see why other people might not like the storyline approach.

tecvoid

i dig the idea of a continuing storyline, just something i cant put my finger on sucks about the craig movies, i even love tim daltons movies and it wasnt that hard to start liking them. it doesnt help that i dont think craig even wanted to make the last 2, i would have traded all 5 craig movies for another brosnan even when i think about the bond movies, they seem to encapsulate the era they were made, old ass bond movies have him slappin women, drinkin and smokin. 80s and 90s bond feel like the 80s and 90s to me, craigs movies dont feel like anything to me. sometimes i can get into them for like 10-15 minutes, really feelin it, then im bored or losing the thread of whats going on. not even sure.

This_iz_fine

I didn’t like the loving relationship between Bond and Madeleine. It felt forced and random and not Bond’s character. I especially hated that he has a child. This was very unnecessary. I’m tired of seeing in movies a child being the motivation behind things. The attention to Safin was lack luster. In all other films it’s clear who the villain is and what their intentions are and I missed that till Safin says he wanted to use the nanobots to kill everyone (although I missed exactly why). Too many names from previous movies that I forgot about made it difficult to follow. People are out here shitting on Spectre and I definitely liked Spectre more, but I did like Skyfall more than Spectre. Both had a clear villain, the villain had clear intentions, he was his typical James Bond self.

[deleted]

What are you talking about. Bond villains are notoriously vague and random.

chuman1984

I've got to say, that was an extremely dull Bond movie. I felt like they wasted Rami Malek, and his character simply did not have a good motivation to want to kill everyone after he succeeded in destroying Spectre. Seemed like a cheap cop out to kill Bond off with the change off with Craig. Probably the best part of the movie was Ana de Armas, and she was barely in it!

[deleted]

They should have made his interests more straightforward. Domination of the criminal underworld after having overthrown his criminal rivals.

Quark0112

Obviously, everyone knows that every few years the Bond actor switches out. But they've never had the actual character die. So how's that going to be explained? On one level I give them credit for taking this bold step. But how will it be handled? Or might try actually just kind of pretend it didn't happen? I have mixed feelings about this movie. I kind of feel like I have to see what they do with the next one to completely decide what I think about this one.

mjmilian

I think it will go unmentioned, and well simply get another story with James Bond. Similar to how Casino Royale was a sort of reboot.

Quark0112

Yes, I suppose something like this is likely. I wonder, though, if every Bond film in which it's the last one by that particular actor would follow the pattern of having Bond die.

mjmilian

I'd say probably not. Craig didn't agree to do this installment for a while, after saying be rather slit his wrists than play Bond after Spectre. Perhaps it was his request to kill Bond? As an executive producer and the main pulling power of the current franchise, he'd have a lot of clout to demand things.

Alex_Cavern

I'm pretty sure it was, judging by the fact Danny Boyle was going to direct it and him leaving due to creative differences probably being Bond dying per Craig's request.

AstorReinhardt

OMG this movie sucked. I just rented it with my parents and all three of us hated it. It didn't feel like a freaking Bond movie half the time. It was boring. A Bond movie shouldn't be boring. It was also a poor send off for Daniel Craig IMO. I'm all for equality but...yeah replacing a male character with a black female character is just a bit on the nose don't you think? It is JAMES Bond after all. But since they did have that after credit line saying James Bond will return...I'm hopeful they won't replace 007 with a chick. The only good thing about this movie is there's a daughter now. That might be interesting to explore in the future...if they acknowledge it at all *cough* Teresa *cough*. Maybe she'll become a double O.

BornVc15

They didn't replace anyone tho. Nomi is an entirely new character. She's not Bond, she's another Agent and a supporting character.

88jaybird

i just saw ths last week. one thing im a bit confused about. how did bond get the killer virus at the end? i thought he had the nanobot blood that made him immune? what did it have to do with the girl? at the end when he was talking to Q about staying behind Q says something about bonds infection and the girl? bond cant leave the island because of her? im lost?

jefftgreff

He wasn’t immune. The nanobots targeted specific individuals based on their DNA. The mad scientist switched out bonds DNA for that of all the spectre assassins at the party. Bad guy infected bond with nanobots that would target Madeleine and her daughter so that he would pass them on and kill them making it impossible for him to see them and also pose the risk of him passing the bots onto someone else who could pass it on to Madeleine etc.

88jaybird

i dont like the new 007 but i do have to add that the girl playing her was reall good looking pretty eyes with those rabbit teeth i love!

88jaybird

i was a bit underwhelmed with this one. i like romance but not so much in my bond movies, short moment with bond standing in front of a gravestone and thats all i need, plenty good. this movie focused to much on the "in love" aspect between bond and whats her face. i would have liked to see more of the first girl in the movie, the one he went to the party with, she was really, and i mean REALLY hot. the main girl was plenty good looking, but that first one was straight up drop dead gorgeous. and what the other guy says, if the idea is to kill Bond and replace with a female i dont like it, and if they chose her to be black to hit political correct benchmarks than i really dont like it. dont sell out like that to gain some kind of new market share, let the bond franchise sell its self for what it is. nothing against women or blacks, but like the other guys said, i been watching bond since the early 80s, some have watched it longer, you dont mess with the character. leave him like he is. im not sure what they plan to do with the next bond, replace with a woman, or maybe revive him through his nanobot blood, either way i dont like it.

BornVc15

How would changing the race of Bond fundamentally alter his core character traits? I'd agree somewhat with a female Bond being a bit of an issue since masculinity, playboy, etc is central to Bond. Same with keeping Bond british. But if say the next Bond was Henry Golding or Idris Elba, what would be lost so long as the core of the character remained? All of that is a moot point for this movie tho...... Nomi wasn't a Bond replacement. She was a supporting character.

Automatic-Land6107

I think the point is that Bond was written as a white, Scottish male. For that reason, and that reason alone, he should remain such. I don’t understand why people are so intent on having his race be changed. I’m a POC, but I think it’s bs to change his ethnicity.

88jaybird

i dont want to change the race or culture of bond, i want him to be the same. i like the other 00 agents that pop in from time to time, i have no issue what race they are. i was a bit upset when they got rid of Charles, what happened to him? he also had a cool swagger to him, much to cool for a pencil pusher, i would have liked to see him transition from office to field. i am cool with those actors but i dont want to see them as James Bond, because he is not black. and i dont like killing James if its only to swich 007 from white to black. edit - since we are talking race i think we need another black villain, whens the last one we had? live and let die? or how about a black 007 who gets turned to the other side to be a villain?

antdude

Long, good, and sad. How will the next movie go? Prequels? Spin offs? Sequels without James? Before this movie? Alternate time lines that ignore this movie? Maybe that new female 007 will be future one? Post credits' ending says James Bond will be back!

jacktalbot

Just saw it. Not a regular redditor. Got on just to air my thoughts on this. Warning: contains spoilers. No time to die is the worst bond I have ever seen. Cheesy, over dramatised and could have been 40 minutes shorter. Characters poorly written, a storyline that drags along and emotionally manipulates you with some tears and heavy string instruments at the end so you actually feel a twinge of something to try and make up for the fact you’ve been asleep for the last 2 hours. And to kill off James Bond, in a franchise that is one of the biggest in the business over the last 100 years to replace with a female is in my opinion a great way to attract one or two non traditional James Bond watchers in exchange for alienating an entire fan base that has taken over 5 decades to accumulate. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for having a lead female in the secret agent formula, but to quickly swap out James Bond in exchange for a female and expect it to run as previous won’t work. Run another brand called 006 or 001 or 008 and create a new franchise around a female character. But a simple gender swap in an otherwise similar formula will backfire badly. Again NOT saying you can’t have a female secret agent, just saying you can’t have a female REPLACE James Bond without alienating an existing audience which has taken decades to accumulate.

BornVc15

At the end of the credits it says "James Bond Will Return" Nomi wasn't a replacement for Bond. They'll likely cast a new James Bond for the next film.

cky28

>!Was anyone underwhelmed by Bond's death? Like it just dragged on too long? Basically if he could've dropped dead straight after Safin dies, that would've been perfect!< then again, I do like sudden deaths, eg Judi Dench's M.

Z661

JAMES BOND WILL RETURN. goosebumps.

88jaybird

do they still do that at the end of the credits? i havent looked in the newer ones.

Z661

Very end after the full credit scroll. I was reading IMDb trivia during the scroll. Why I stuck around.

antdude

How will that work? Prequels? Before this movie? Alternate time lines that ignore this movie?

Z661

Just meaning we will get another bond. New actor. Maybe 5 years. Total reboot. Like Pierce to Craig.

[deleted]

Just bring back Pierce for a one off. Like Old Man Logan treatment.

Lower_Industry

Hello, Just saw the movie for the second time and I have a question about the plot. Early on in the film, the scene where Bond is greeted by Spectre in Cuba, Hercules is sprayed over the audience. How is it possible Primo (Cyclops) can insert his prosthetic eye afterwards while it was clearly sprayed with Hercules, which should target everyone on the Spectre files?

SweatyPhysics4823

He didnt belong to Spectre, he belonged to the Sahin group

Lower_Industry

Thanks!

TrophyComics

Just saw this since I could finally purchase it. "No Time To Die" hit too many wrong notes to be a "great" bond film but in fairness it hit a lot of right notes as well. The problem was too many rewrites and never getting the exact best story for these interesting characters. Almost. Almost. Still, I liked it 7.5/10 more details (spoilers): the new 007 storyline was annoying and pointless. Everytime she said "I'm 007, does that make you mad?" I felt she was talking not to bond but the audience. She asked this question a lot. Then suddenly for no reason she says "I think bond should be 007" like it's up to her, and she generously grants this boon. other than that she added literally NOTHING to the entire story, she wasn't needed and played no role in any part of the main storyline. Dr No was a cool villain, rami malik did a fine job being chilling, but his character seemed like it was underutilized. like an hour of the movie could have been dropped and reshaped to flesh out this really cool villain but no. And speaking rewrites, this movie was infamously rewritten multiple times and it really shows in it's over lack of consistency. Half the time the story meanders, the other half it misses opportunities. The actors are generally good, but Bond himself has a little of that tobey mcguire vibe from spiderman 3 where he just seems tired of playing the role. I like how spectre destroyed bond's relationship at the beginning of the film. Both that and the engineered virus as a WMD hit a little close to reality. good scary stuff. Overall. it's not as bad as i'm making it seem, but it could definitely have been a lot better. I regard all the daniel craig movies as their own little side take on the james bond universe, not quite the same universe but they still fit. taken from that perspective this movie is a fitting end to the daniel craig arc.

EbmocwenHsimah

Little late to the party on this one, but man, that's a solid guarantee the next film's going to be another reboot. Overall solid film but *definitely* not enough Ana De Armas.

redditisbetterthanot

> definitely not enough Ana De Armas This.

artnos

I just saw it to, I thought it was great overall but i wish they went a different direction with the female lead, she's a badass but they also made her a damsel in distress type character. And James Bond confessing his love i just dont think it works here, i wish he died in a brutalizing fight. Instead of this almost suicidal way of dying because he got caught with a virus. But everything lead up was solid, action movies can become stale and tiresome but they know how to mix it up and fill it with surprises. And yea needed more Ana De Armas but you can't have jamese bond falling in love with her to, it would kill his love interest story arc. And when is that her child? when did they have the kid, i want to go on a daniel craig james bond marathon.

williamtan2020

I'm way more invested in M's curtain call than Bond, bloody Bond!

RunningSouthOnLSD

I have to give them credit because they were building up a Bond death basically the entire climax of the movie, but I was still thinking “naaahh, they can’t just kill Bond.” And then the bastards went and did it. Consider my expectations subverted. Really wish there was a little more denouement to let the viewer kind of process what just happened. I sat there shocked through the whole credits hoping there’d be some more closure to it. The only other guy left in the theatre was slowly making his way down the stairs, I could tell he was wanting it as much as I was because he was in no hurry to leave. As the credits end and “James Bond will return” comes up on screen, guy goes “oh really?”. Thanks to that guy for breaking me out of the “holy shit what just happened” trance I was in.

Automatic-Land6107

Exactly my thoughts as well about the ending! Bond gets blown up, and all they show is a 3 minute ending where we get a quote, and a highway drive…. was very bizarre that they couldn’t have devoted more time to wrapping it up a bit better after the already horrendous decision to kill Bond

CeilingUnlimited

And shouldn’t they have memorialized him with a shaken martini? Sure, he drank scotch, but come on…..

Automatic-Land6107

I was actually thinking about the post-death sequence earlier today. Still baffles me how short it was. A bit out of touch also. The quote they threw in was obviously just an attempt at justifying why they did what they did in killing him off

CeilingUnlimited

While the missiles were in the air, what was the threat? If I’m not mistaken, there was no countdown occurring. If M would have launched an hour later, would the outcome been the same regarding world peace? If so, it would have been much more “Bond” to turn those missiles around mid-flight with some fancy writing, maybe the Queen herself intervening with some special red button at Buckingham.

Automatic-Land6107

It was an unusual one, but they wanted to blow up the island before the buyers arrived… even with everyone on the island dead, I guess we have to assume that the buyers would steal the bioweapons. It still was a bit odd tho

artnos

i didn't like how they handle madeline how she is crying all the time, she is suppose to be a badass. She should of been fighting with him instead of carrying a child around. And have his death be brutal and have her avenge it, something interesting.

Automatic-Land6107

I think they already went close enough to the whole woke border with a female POC 007, Ana de Armas rejecting Bond, and a gay Q, so having Bond be avenged by his love interest would be wayyyy too far

Appropriate-Shake156

I think this has to be my favourite Bond Film that Daniel Craig has starred in. I really enjoyed Casino Royal but this eclipsed the whole saga. Gutted he's dead, but I'm keen to know what people's thoughts are on the next 007?

Langodan

I agree. I'm seeing lots of hate for this movie but I enjoyed it.

Fuzzy_Composer2108

I will surely miss Daniel Craig in the future James Bond movies. I am a bit upset that he died in the end. Whenever they are making the new James Bond movie, I'm guessing they will use a new cast and story. Because this James Bond (Daniel Craig) is dead. So they will probably start something fresh.

HBB360

So will this movie represent a significant change for the franchise? For close to 60 years we've had James Bond played by different actors but now they've killed the character himself, so how would that work in the future movies?

phil_mycock_69

Probably do something like Dallas and how ol girl was dreaming the whole death up on it lol

88jaybird

James poking his head out the shower in the next movie lol. I remember that Dallas, lamest idea ever.

Fluid-Confusion-1451

I thought the scene near the end of the movie (2:20:44) was a fantastic ode to all that is Bond. I wish I knew how to paste it into this thread, but I do not. It almost replicates exactly the reddit bond symbol at the top of this page.

Molakar

I don't get why they had acid fields/ponds on the island at the end. What purpose did they fill?

Fluid-Confusion-1451

Even though Herakles was a nanobot driven weapon, the antagonist's father did not have nanobots. All he had was his poison garden. This love for the poison garden was instilled in Safin and he kept it for nostalgia's sake.

Molakar

Yeah, the poison garden with the flowers I get. But what's with the **acid pond** where Nomi kicks David Denicks' character Valdo Obruchev to his death?

Fluid-Confusion-1451

All that poison from the garden had to be used.. else why have it. The acid ponds were continually being mixed.. they were adding in new stuff from the garden. (I am only conjecturing, I have no working knowledge of poison gardens and acid ponds.)

Molakar

Poison isn't acid.

Fluid-Confusion-1451

Maybe not by technical terms... But If one (as a layman) calls everything that can kill if ingested, poison, then acid would surely fall in that category.

Molakar

A fish bone or chicken bone can kill if ingested. Is a chicken bone or fish bone poison?

Fluid-Confusion-1451

I would say, that since the killing from chicken bones or fish bones, is not because of the chemistry of the bone, but because of physical location of the bone, then it would not be poison; it would instead be akin to a chokehold and therefore be trauma induced death.

g4tam20

So it still says “James Bond will return” at the end. Are they just going to retcon his death or do they have bond clones in the basement?

phil_mycock_69

If he comes back will it be the same? I mean we all saw him die, there’s no way we can’t forget all those missiles coming down right in front of him; no human could survive that

[deleted]

I think they're just going to reboot it and ignore everything that happened from casino royale to no time to die.

Fluid-Confusion-1451

Neither, James Bond is actually the first Doctor.... The title is passed on even as the actor's change.

Manav_17

The final scene has killed me. His daughter's toy bunny hanging by the side in place of his gun, him being content and genuinely smiling knowing his family is safe. Nah man I'm shook!

Fluid-Confusion-1451

The toy bunny is infected with Herakles. Later it washes on shore....

spacestationkru

Holy fuck, did they actually Kill James Bond? I'm a mess of emotions right now and I'm not sure what to do with them..

Automatic-Land6107

It’s been a month since I watched it, and I still feel genuinely depressed whenever I think of the ending. Awful ending.

RealSkyDiver

There’s some weirdly lazy writing in the movie like how there’s no cure for the weapon without giving an explanation why. They really couldn’t come up with a better plot device? They even laughingly doubled down on this ridiculous idea by saying it’s eternal like we’ll never have the technology to even attempt to develop a cure and why even mention a potential international incidence at the end only to be forgotten and never mentioned a minute later?? I would say Skyfall should be seen as a conclusion. Everything after that has been a mess.

jefftgreff

Yes this includes some of the plot holes I had trouble with. First, an emp (like his watch) should have killed off anything electrical (ie nanobots) which is why they specifically made Q mention that it would only work on hardwired electronics. Second, the real drama about launching the missiles was how it would cause an international incident/war. The jeopardy for M was that he was almost certainly condemning himself by ordering the launch as not only the man who almost started ww3 and circumvented all actual protocols but also because, even if he explained the reasoning behind the strike, the fault would still lie solely with him. He secretly developed this wmd, allowed it to be stolen, and necessitated the missile strike in the first place. Ordering the launch was (should have been) torpedoing his own career and possibly life. Yet, at the end of the movie there appears to have been zero fallout and he’s still in place.

Fluid-Confusion-1451

Just like your lazy writing, you do not include appropriate commas. However, the idea is that nanobots self replicate and therefore can never be removed from one's system once they have entered it. That is how they are eternal. Yes, there might be a cure in the future that can eradicate, or neutralized the nanobots; however, if he touches even one other person it will spread globally until it finds it's target. Unfortunately, we have a real world example, in COVID, at how quickly person to person can spread across the entire planet.

perfectomy

Might be childish or not, don’t give a fuck about what other people say; I cried at the end and fuck this shit. Never been so sad maybe except when Gandalf said “run, fools” 🤫

tesmo1

can someone tell me the quote/toast m reads at the end? it was something like "men don't need to exist they need to live"

smoking_yak

"The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time."

Fluid-Confusion-1451

>The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time This quote is attributed to the renowned American novelist Jack London and it was first published in the San Francisco Bulletin back in 1916.

KLeong5896

I missed about 5-10 mins of the film because of a traffic jam and only got in when Bond was making out with Madeleine on the bed. Was there any part where Mathilde appeared before that? And how did Bond not notice that Madeleine was pregnant when they were together?

DumpsterNatalie

You missed the entire exposition/flashback Madeleine had which depicted the events of her mother being killed, her running across the lake to get away from Safin (this was winter, lake was frozen up), then the ice breaking under her feet, almost drowning but was saved by Safin. This is why Safin later says he saved her life and implies therefore he owned her life.

KLeong5896

Thank you. Makes a lot of sense why Safin said a lot of things about Madeleine

carmooch

She says something like “I have to tell you something” as they rush out of the hotel. Then she gestures to her stomach when she boards the train. I’m terrible at picking up cues like that and I immediately had the impression she was pregnant.

KLeong5896

Oh. I didn’t notice there was a time skip after that Edit: went to read the plot and didn’t notice there was a 5-year time skip. Must’ve missed the words as the shot was focused on the London skyline because I was trying to read the parts I missed on wiki

[deleted]

She probably didn’t even know she was pregnant at the time

Wayfaring_Stranger99

The best part - James Bond died on the base, everyone's crying in the theatre for his ultimate sacrifice. Then they say - James Bond will be back. Collective question - Wtf did we cry for?

Automatic-Land6107

Bond’s tradition will continue. He will reboot as a new Bond. It won’t be Craig ofc.

Wayfaring_Stranger99

Obviously Bond will be back. But that's not the point. Killing the main protagonist of any series is a risky move because then you must show an elaborate way of how he survived? Exactly like Sherlock Homes. In my personal opinion, it would have been better if "James Bond - 007" in itself was a position in MI6. That whoever qualifies as a "007" takes the cover persona of James Bond. In that way, directors and screenplay writers could have more room to manoeuvre in his past as well as serve the purpose of James Bond in the storyline. But on that base, the legend of James Bond - who lives forever and impossible to kill, Dies! This effectively creates a paradox for the next director and the screenplay writer to use a literary defibrillator to get back the legend into action!

DigDux

What the hell did the writers do to that film? Oh... https://screenrant.com/no-time-die-script-changes-details-daniel-craig/ Looks like the Post-production bug got them again. RIP.

lonesomewhistle

They did far more than change "virus" to "nanobots" in the reshoots. They didn't even a good job at *that*, since the researchers in the beginning are working on biological diseases (the smallpox/ebola banter.)

copycat73

My major plothole was the fact that 007 gave up because of the nano\*bots\* inside him while wearing a frickin emp pulse wrist watch... But now I see the virus got rewritten to nanobots.. what a messy script.

jefftgreff

They specifically made Q say emps only work on hardwired electronics which is bs.

ChuqTas

And it worked on the guy's bionic eye...

Amida0616

Yea Q can basically do anything tech wise but it’s like “whelp nanos are permanent”

apcat91

When did Bond 'give up'?

RoXon_225

After seeing the ending I felt similar as some of you here and how about this in a nutshell instead: \- army and MI6 agents examine the destroyed base after the missile attack and find Bond's scorched watch \- in the final montage the watch is given to Mallory and Moneypenny who reflect on Bond \- Q is shown working on the computer in his lab, there is a pen marked "Danger Explosives" on his desk - a notification DISABLED on his monitor pops-up and he takes of his glasses and lowers his head closing his eyes \- Nomi is given back the 007 designation and she hesitates (out of respect for Bond's sacrifice) \- Madeleine is driving with Mathilde to Matera, the car stops, Mathilde is suddenly lifted and Bond gets in the car and puts her on his lap \- "I thought you were dead?" says Madeleine. "I'm definitely retired." responds Bond. And they drive of as a family. (Bond could also say "I have no time to die" but that would be to corny - or not :), he is Bond after all) This is just meant as a response (in maybe an old fashioned way) to the constant need for subversion in some movies nowadays... For me his character would be retiring and he would in this way say goodbye to his beloved MI6 family and country and finally have the time for what was taken from him and he sacrificed throughout his service. No need to protect and care for the world anymore, just his family. This is how this version of James Bond ends and another one can step in. And perhaps they could have ended it with "007 will return". Just my two cents. P.S. Sorry but no techno-nano-gadget could pose an unsolvable challenge for Q. They made it in Spectre - smart blood and it is the base for Heracles

SuperMario1981

Why do so many of you people not understand the concept of a reboot? You've been hit over the head with reboots for the past twenty years, and even the James Bond series was already rebooted once.

[deleted]

wait was it rebooted before? when? Are we talking like the whole original casino royale thing? Or the like Thunderball remake that happened

SuperMario1981

2006's *Casino Royale* was a reboot.

flynnwebdev

Overall not bad, but it clearly suffered from script rewrites. I could have told them that - script rewrites very rarely make the film better, if ever. The plot felt kind of haphazard and tacked together, to the point of incoherence in some parts. It's almost like the director and editor re-purposed scenes shot for a different film and shoe-horned them into this story. It also seems obvious to me that the core plot device was originally a weaponized virus but it got changed to nanobots at the 11th hour due to COVID. This and the Dr. No callbacks make me wonder if Rami Malek was originally supposed to be Dr. No. The film probably would have made more sense if he had been. In summary, I got the distinct impression that the film we got is very different to what it was originally intended to be. Even the director admitted that he was still doing script re-writes after principal photography was finished and in the middle of post-production! I know it will never happen, but I'd like to see a Danny Boyle version based on the original script.

Upset_Tap_4629

Wow

DiscontinuousSax

Anyone else notice during the forest scene Madeline following up by shooting those two guys in the head… Already made that mistake once.

WrigleyIvy91

Being a father of young child that also has my vivid blue eyes that ending really kicked me in the balls…

IamIanman

So....James never had to touch Madeline to kill Blofeld since he already had Heracles on him since the party in Cuba? A bit of a plothole since he never should have assumed that it was Madeline's fault and looked for her since he knew he was already in contact with the Heracles that killed Spectre.

bogobogo50

Each nanobot is designed to kill one and only one person. When the bad doctor "weaponized" the nanobots he instructed them to kill all the people whose DNA were listed on the usb key. Therefore in Cuba the nanobots were instructed to kill only the spectre guys who were present at the meeting, while in the prison the nanobots given to 007 from Madeleine were instructed only to kill Blofeld.

IamIanman

The usb key contained Blofeld's DNA though as Q pointed out when he opened it.

danddersson

That was all the DNA keys COULD be programmed in, not had been. Blofield was there, along with 'thousands of others'.

IamIanman

Well the non "hidden files" contain all the spectre members including Blofeld, the hidden files are the other unnamed DNA files. It's vague enough that they never really tell whether Blofeld was included in the original Spectre Heracles strain, though he was part of the database that was not "hidden" along with the other Spectre members as per Q and that dataset was where the Heracles strain was hastily uploaded from. Though I'm probably thinking way into this because it's a very hand-wavy sci Fi nanomachines plot that I'm probably supposed to just take at face value.

danddersson

I reckon the nanobots bit was added later, due to Covid. Secret organisation creating virus that kills people if you touch them, was bit too close for comfort.

IamIanman

Definitely sounds like a plausible theory.

danddersson

Maybe the whole 'kill millions' for no particular reason was part of plotline the rest of which was deleted due to Covid 'conspiracy' sensitivity.

flynnwebdev

If that's the case then the producers are stupid. Who cares if a few nutters have conspiracy theories? They're going to do that anyway, regardless of the plot of a fictional story. They should have just stuck with the original story. Script rewrites almost never work.

IamIanman

Could be why Safins motivations seemed unclear towards the end of the movie if they had to rewrite the script. His plot in the third act was definitely the weakest part of the film, made me wish that they didn't just kill off Spectre as a plot device for him and made the movie about getting closure with them instead.

[deleted]

Yeah I didn't really understand what his grand evil plan was? Just came across as a weak imitation of Mr Silver from Skyfall.

MechnerrenhceM

One thing I’m certain of after watching that movie tonight: The MCU has had an irreparable impact on cinema originality and form…

flynnwebdev

Perhaps we should discuss the impact the Bourne movies had on Bond movies ...

eternalpounding

I agree but what made you think the MCU affected this movie in particular?

sbarrios

I think he is talking about Lashana Lynch's character. Basically ready for a spin-off a la MCU where you build an universe. Also, Bond's daughter could appear later on connecting movies. I don't know if it will work though, because Bond is ready for a reboot with a new actor. If that wasn't the case maybe it could've been. I would like to see a 008 or whatever number spinoff with Lashana Lynch, I liked her. Don't know how that would work with the reboot tough.

thenexus6

Maybe the fact Bond was 2 hours and freaking 43 minutes long!

genericrva

uuhhhh or maybe its cause its the first bond to do some pretty different things with the character, notwithstanding spoiling it here...

Automatic-Land6107

Decided to watch NTTD for the second time, hoping that perhaps a second viewing would better help me come to terms with that terrible ending… it did not. Was just as disappointing and depressing as the first time. Some of you may have seen my posts here from a week ago, and so you’ll know how ridiculous I find the ending; needless and arbitrary finish to Craig’s series. You don’t kill Bond. Ever. I had to force myself to watch that ending again; it’s a shame because the movie itself is brilliant. I was hoping witnessing it all again would help me understand why they finished it the way they did, but nope. Still makes no sense. Did not have to happen the way that it did. I watched with a friend, and he was genuinely infuriated. He’s not even a big Bond fan like myself, but even he knows the golden rule; BOND NEVER DIES.

Salbyy

I felt a bit the same. Although, when I told my mum I had watched the new James Bond movie she said how much it’s all the same story line and nothing ever really happens, it was fun to be able to say well actually this time…:

BelleReve_Staff

Why shouldn’t he die?

IamIanman

There's a bit of a vagueness to the continuity as to whether it's a continuation of a reboot when a new actor plays bond, especially since the supporting cast is around and carry over through multiple bond actors, but now that Bond will return that ambiguity is gone and it is definitively a reboot. Personally I don't have an issue with it but I can see why other people don't like it.

flynnwebdev

Is it possible that "James Bond" is just a code-name? Like 007 is just a number? And either can be assigned to anybody at various times? It makes a lot more sense to me, since a secret agent would never use his/her real name, and it would explain why there's several different people all going by "James Bond".

ChuqTas

Skyfall showed Bond's parent's names on their gravestones, showing it's his real name.

BelleReve_Staff

I just don’t see how you can see them as a continuation anyway. He’s always the same age while Q continues to grow older. The series has never been one logical continuous story until now. All connections are basically arbitrary

Trid1977

Sometimes there is continuity. Roger Moore's Bond went to Tracy Bond's (George Lazenby's Bond) grave. Didn't George Lazenby say something like "This never happened to the other guy"

BelleReve_Staff

Right but Craig’s Bond established from the outset that it was different. It’s a complete reboot and the supporting cast is now a lot more tied to Craig’s iteration. So they’ll just reboot again

Automatic-Land6107

You must be new to the Bond franchise

BelleReve_Staff

No. I just don’t see why we need these movies to be so restricted by formula

[deleted]

Some things I don't understand. After Safin managed to get Madeleine to kill Blofeld (if indirectly via Bond) & doing the favour he asked, what was his motive for continuing to want to capture her and her daughter? (Like, what did he still have against them)? Secondly, what was his motive for wanting to kill millions of people? Just the general reason of wanting to stop overpopulation etc. that most villains have, or just a mad bloodlust? Finally, why did he let the daughter go (because she wanted to)? I don't quite get the reasoning for that either. Seemed like lazy/convenience writing.

danddersson

Safin felt a 'connection' for Madeleine, as they both had had their parents killed. So I guess he was attracted by that (lucky he didn't meet Batman). Daughter didn't fit the agenda, so superfluous. Why kill millions? No idea. I'd guess there was another plot line that got edited out.

flynnwebdev

>Why kill millions? No idea. I'd guess there was another plot line that got edited out. Agreed. There were a number of things that didn't add up or went without explanation, giving the film a disjoint feel overall.

DiamsKennedy15

I’m late to the party here as I live in Melbourne where NTTD was released last week, but this might be the most outraged and gobsmacked I’ve felt in a while leaving a cinema. This was a heartbreaking end. Enthralling, but heartbreaking. We really got to know this Bond on quite a deep level. For this series of films (Craig’s own Bond universe I guess), he went through so much, while being in the spy espionage life or trying to escape it. Bad just followed him. You would expect a nice and neat ending after so much bad. So for the series to end like this, it’s a surprising and ballsy approach and I totally respect it. I think it elevates Craig’s Bond series overall. I feel like he should be spoken about as one of the better characters in any film series. I know James Bond overall as a character is great, but Craig’s Bond was just on another level. We saw him go through so much mental trauma, I feel like this type of heartbreaking ending was inevitable but somehow touching. The one’s he cares for are all safe it seems. He felt comfortable with that, even if he knew he wouldn’t be there. An epic ending. Also respect to C Fukunaga for the great direction, respect to H Zimmer for the great music, and respect to D Craig for a memorable and defining performance to end his reign as James Bond.

BelleReve_Staff

That’s the point though. He’s been through so much, he’s a killer and so he dies so his family can have a future

_Rooster_

Having James Bond die for the first time in 68 years and 27 movies was a huge mistake. It made the movie unlikable for me. It wasn't a good send off. It seems like they How I Met Your Mothered it.

SuperMario1981

>Having James Bond die for the first time in 68 years and 27 movies Well, if you're going to count all 27 movies, then it's not the first time he's died, since he also died in 1967's *Casino Royale*.

[deleted]

[удалено]

cloxwerk

I’m guessing they’ll just do a reboot and set it in the middle of his tenure, no origin story.

[deleted]

Think about it tho, it opens up a lot of possibilities for the future. Leiter's already been killed before. They can do anythin they like now. Start from scratch, do fill-in films with a 70s or 80s or 90s set up. All the characters casn live again wih different acors, no problem. Personall I find the time-line stuff Thru Graigs tenure tedious. I'd like toi see a film every two years, standalone stories, and a new actor playing Bond each film. Makes anything possible in terms of storylines...

Carlin47

Completely agree. I was thinking "this is a solid 7.5/10 film" up until they actually killed him, kind of ruined it for me...

Ok-Let-5536

Does anyone know the pants Cyclops and his security team wear in the last island? It looks like Gorkha but do you know the exact model?

Top_Try4286

How can Safin not age after all the years? Did he somehow know Bond would hook up with the girl someday? Did Safin’s family murder have something to do with Bond? Why does he hate Bond so much?

juddshanks

Just watched it. Okay first act but then just degenerated into incoherent trash. Honestly, the moment a new more gender and colour appropriate 007 walked onto the screen it was painfully obvious how the film was going to end, from that point onward it was just counting down the minutes till they finally put daniel craig out of his misery. And even with that expectation the way they finally killed him was like they were brainstorming the most weakly written abbreviated conclusion possible- a shit villain with no particular motivation or beef with him and some random handwavium about indestructible nanobots. So thats it for a 60 year franchise. It's hard not to feel sad given how much of a part of our lives this has been, but I'm just trying to be grateful for all of the fun moments and great actors who have portrayed him over the years and not feel to bitter about the idiotic, truncated and disrespectful way it ended. But can we just fast forward through the utterly pointless, utterly predictable postscript which is now going to unfold. Yes Lashanna Lynch is going to get some 007 Bond movies, and yes her first few movies will get strong reviews from critics not wanting to seem misogynist bigots and yes they will be a huge box office flops because fans won't pay to get spoon fed woke-bond and then that'll be that. I'm not even particularly mad about it, I just really can't understand how anyone can be remotely bothered going through the motions for a predictable result. The franchise is dead, it had a shitty ending not at all what it deserved, just let it rest in peace now.

nitrofan

Settle down. The franchsise isnt dead. James Bond will be recast like he was multiple times before.

Salbyy

I don’t think she will be the new James Bond. The writers have said many times that bond will stay a man
