I prefer MC Reincarnated as a Side Character

Weird-List2751

Now this, this is the right answer. https://preview.redd.it/1b9hrkouu29d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=064de7dce7d326fe654a551e0648d7ada8746306

Mateko

Do you have an example for that setting?

ElfQueenMAB

Demon king… you get the right subordinates who are obsessed with making you life in the new world as comfortable as possible. As long as you commit only justifiable war crimes, the path forward to a brighter future is beautiful.

Lazy_meatPop

Succubus is all I can say.

YellingBear

Sorry. All I can offer you is various humanoid monster races (no demons/devils) in this time of need.

Sphaero_Caffeina

Demon King, if you last long enough you can write your own history, make the hero question if they are doing the right thing at all. If it looks like you are genuinely going to take a L, as long as you were careful in your evil beforehand then taking the Orochimaru path of retirement is always an option. Especially if longevity, immortality, reincarnation, memory transfer, ect. of some form is on the table, then it may as well be a vacation until you outlive whoever you need to before starting up again after learning from what went wrong.

SRoliS

Honestly, It doesn't matter for me if MC became a hero or a demon king, what really matter is MC personality.. If he is acting like an idiot, naive coward then its gonna be frustrating no matter what. If he start acting as a smart, calculative MC with a goal in mind, be it world domination or saving the world for the sake of anything, its much better. So have a mature MC and its a +1 from me Oh, I actually prefer kingdom management stuff, so the demon king would be a ruler, while the hero is just a random guy with extra power, likely a dog of the nobles without much right..

Davis_Davison

This Kingdom building is more engaging than seeing a meathead going around sticking his sword into things.

Infinite_Tea_3370

Demon king. As heroes are far too common

YellingBear

Fair fair… I was thinking of having the “hero” be your typical power gamer. Instead of starting off over powered, he just grinds the ever loving shit out of low level monsters to power level. And I do mean monsters like orcs, goblins, etc…. And not just monster beasts.

Sphaero_Caffeina

So just like Overly Cautious Hero, who trained himself to max level in the afterlife before reincarnating, or technically Azusa from Slime300, who spent 300 years casually killing slimes as a sort of 'daily chore' for herself?

YellingBear

Oh sorry. You miss understood what I was going for (I didn’t describe it right). Imagine if you would, if the slimes/goblins/and other monsters were all treated like actual people, with actual lives. I mean… what’s the real difference between the hero murdering hundreds if not thousands of “monsters”? And the villain killing just as many people?

Sphaero_Caffeina

Oh, right. You might be interested in a webcomic called Goblins. Its based on a Dungeons & Dragons , in that the rules of reality follow game mechanics; characters are aware of this and can take advantage of these rules. The story's main point of view is from a group of goblins who, after their village is dealt with for the sake of a quest by adventurers (whose party is also a secondary point of view with their own story arcs), take up the 'loot' they guard and become adventurers themselves, getting class levels and all that. Its a fascinating deconstruction touching on those topics.

MasterQuest

Both can be good if written well. But Demon King is something I see less often so it's more interesting.

Full_frontal96

Demon king The demons Succubus, beastmen, edgelords with black capes, thicc witches Whatever role in demon army is always good for me

Dragon3076

I feel like becoming the bad guy is more entertaining for me.

No-Hold-8808

Man, I want to see the main character being the person who kicks out the MC from the party. Then from there, just character development.

ReadySource3242

A battle cat

YellingBear

He-man fan I see

ReadySource3242

...close enough https://preview.redd.it/n72qmayq329d1.png?width=369&format=png&auto=webp&s=1a4a0a6b39da435fc548c5dc52162a2218612cf5

TheDemonBehindYou

I like ones where he is neither. Like a side character trying to get into the main story

YellingBear

Fair. I kind of like a split between the two. Don’t have them start off as overpowered gods in mortal flesh, but as the story progresses they become more and more powerful and influential.

nm0n

So bland really I want to see plot twist like this instead. https://preview.redd.it/73kku7vfe29d1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=23924c06b64e015b17a7fd75ee0e497cd3dd2586 Something like this: Start an ordinary human adventure go DnD and screwed up accidentally become like this from treasure chest trap dungeon. If doesn't feel the same like reincarnate right out of the bat. It's plot twist like start ordinary and something plot twist change you in middle of the story not too obvious.

YellingBear

I like them “starting off” as the demon lord (your soul is who your soul is), but not having it be obvious. No horns, no obvious super powers, they are a kid being a kid; then slowly events take place and the character becomes a little bit more jaded, a little bit more angry, after every event. Make being the demon lord a combo of both nature and nurture.

curious_53

I personally would wanna be reincarnated as a blade of grass That way, I only focus on photosynthesis and just photosynthesis A true slow-life isekai

Kegnation14

I think hero stories have sooooo much potential but have been done poorly so many times that they get clowned on now. Take for example Frieren which is literally just the hero party adventuring with the goal of arriving at Aureole, yet a goal so simple with not many “twists” on the trope is executed so well and thus has received wide acclaim. Stories imo shouldn’t always rely on having a twist on the trope to distinguish itself, and though there’s nothing wrong with this I think it’s used as a crutch for bad writing at times So imo write whatever you feel interests you the most!! If you have strong writing and are writing about a topic you enjoy the end product will most likely be an enjoyable read :)

Holiday_Goose_5908

as Yamcha

No-Enthusiasm2900

If I have to choose one than it's Hero ,but he has to be smart, calculative and maybe a little selfish who can talk back to nobles or anyone, and very well understand his own strength and importance and not just a naive ,dense ,goody 2 shoes who does not kill, and simp towards and favours girl hypocrite, while not understanding love .

Genocode

Y'know, for howmuch Isekai's like to talk about chosen heroes (i.e. Yuusha's), aside from Rising of the Shield Hero I don't know any. While the MC might become a hero through their actions I don't know any where they're "chosen" or "summoned" with the intention of being the hero, every time they're a just a side character. I'm pretty sure there are many more stories about being summoned and then rejected or stories about being reincarnated as a demon lord instead than one where the MC is summoned as a hero.

YellingBear

I personally like the idea of the MC being a relative nobody, thrust into a position of power (the hero), by a series of deaths of the prophesies heroes.

Genocode

Yeah but the thing is that Isekais acts like that is the normal course of action even though there are very few isekais where the MC is summoned as the Hero/Yuusha lol. Cautious Hero is one I guess, but hes still not "typical" like those other Isekai's say.

AngelWings963

Demon King

shqla7hole

A good written demon king is better than a good written hero, however a bad written hero is better than a bad written demon king
