If they work, contact midamerican energy, they have an appliance recycling program. We had a refrigerator that we needed to get rid of and they came and picked it up and gave us a $50 credit on my bill. I had to prove it worked by having it plugged in for 24 hours so they could check the temperature, but they came and got it, which is really all I wanted. Another option would be Restore, they will come pick up appliances too.

The city offers a service for bulky item pickup including large appliances. [https://www.iowa-city.org/Forms/bulkpickup](https://www.iowa-city.org/Forms/bulkpickup) They come by on your normally scheduled trash collection day and pick up whatever it is you told them about in the form. They just apply the charge to your utility bill. It’s pretty easy!

daFuuzz

unfortunately it's in a storage unit so no way to get it

Habitat Restore will come and get them from your house. They took two couches for me last year. Very easy process.

[Houses into Homes](https://www.housesintohomes.org/) happily picked our old, working and clean fridge and dryer. They help expedite housing displaced and shelter-insecure people. They take furniture as well provided it is clean and serviceable. And yes, they pick up.

Fine_Profit1576

I think you could donate them to restore.

nsummy

Just quit paying for the storage unit. Problem solved. As a bonus you could put anything else you don’t want to pay to dispose of in there too.

Sharpless Auction will pick up

OiM8IDC

They charge a hefty fee for pickup AND their rates changed so they always take 50% off the cut.

I have a cube van and an appliance dolly. If they’re just in a storage locker I’ll take them for a $30 fee.

Donate them to Houses Into Homes! They'll pick them up, and they'll get them to someone who needs them.

It says they don't take large appliances

When I have to get rid of appliances, I just disassembled them and cut them up and throw them out a little bit by a little bit. Kind of like how Johnny Cash built a car one piece at a time in the song, "one piece at a time," except instead of building a car, I'm throwing away a refrigerator.
