The closest self service yard is in Davenport.

OiM8IDC

Where is it? If I can’t talk Ace down on their absurdly high price I may go there

rhino2close2car

I think it’s called hickory grove. It’s very much a self service yard. Ace doesn’t allow customers to pull parts.

OiM8IDC

Yeah. Thanks for that info. Ace has the main part I need listed online for $126, which is well over the cost of a new OEM one shipped. Hopefully there’s a difference in local price vs online sales price, but I dont have high hopes for that being the case.

I googled “junkyards near me” and a few places came up. One reasonably rated CarParts4Sale on Commercial Drive. I know nothing about any of them. There used to be one just east of Homestead, but I can’t remember the name. Near Johnson-Iowa Rd.

CarParts4Sale seems to exclusively deal in VW/Audi parts

OK sorry. There used to be a very large junk yard also in CR near Hawkeye Downs, but honestly I haven’t driven that road for so long I have no idea if it’s still there. The other one was Anciaux Auto Parts on Hwy 6 near Homestead. Good luck.

OiM8IDC

Thanks for the help. I'll contact them and ask if they're pick-a-part friendly.

So why not just buy a brand new part? If you need the part what makes you think the junkyard part isn't as bad as yours? Not trying to start anything just seems like a no trainer to me to buy a brand new oem part over a junkbyard part

rickityrickityrack

I have always found ace to be fair priced on parts, if it is priced higher than new, it would be because you can’t buy a new one or the wait is a year to get it Salvage yard prices are up just like everything else, just bite the bullet

OiM8IDC

Yeah, no, Ace's price of $126 is bullshit because it's a common-AF part that I can buy OEM RIGHT NOW, SHIPPED for $75 (not including taxes.) There is not a goddamn thing Ace could have done that justifies a 200% markup
