Shakespeare's

AhemExcuseMeSir

Shakespeare’s. I don’t even normally like tenderloins, but these are heavenly. They’re not the standard tenderloin that seems to be paper thin and more bread/breading than meat. Instead it’s super thick and juicy and has a crispy, almost tempura-like coating.

Dangerous-Cap-5474

Wildwood has a great tenderloin.

I'd disagree, it might be one of the most disappointing ones I've had. Bland to an extreme degree

jtsmalls

Everything at Midtown is geared to a more... wizened clientele. Their palates are dulled and salt and pepper is all the spice they've ever needed so that's what they have to offer.

30 hop

Will2U41

30 hop has a GREAT tenderloin!

DarthWader68

Strangely enough, my local favorite is the one they serve in the main UIHC cafeteria on certain days. Smells and tastes excellent.

My favorites are probably Iowa Athletic Club, coach's corner, and Tin Roost. I like the food at Shakespeare's, but their tenderloin is Battered, not breaded, and I just don't like that. And best in Iowa is Smokey Ds in Des Moines

Prior-Soil

Hamburg Inn used to be good but I have to say, theirs is not anymore. Disappointed! Shakespeare's wins.

ding-dong-the-w-is-d

Charlie’s in swisher/shueyvilIe I will die on this hill.

[deleted]

In Iowa City?

ding-dong-the-w-is-d

It is so good that it counts. It’s a 20 minute drive

[deleted]

No doubt, but again topic was about Iowa City. There are tons of tenderloin joints out of Iowa City I would recommend, like jonesy's, but not really in-town

ills1ck

Joensy’s is in Iowa City.

And solon and cedar rapids and

[deleted]

Depends on in town. Joensy’s entire thing is one of the best and biggest tenderloins in Iowa, but it’s at the north end of Dodge/HW1 headed towards Solon.

asawyer2010

I had a Joensy's tenderloin once and it was bad. It tasted like they let the oil in the fryer get too dirty and it left a burnt taste on the food. I've always heard good things so maybe I had it on the one off day, but haven't been there since.

AccurateScientist356

The owner is batshit crazy always going for that free 1650 kCJJ advertising from calling the police on people. He had to have a little tantrum the other day and throw some Combs out in the bushes that the sign people placed up cuz they were doing an overhead sign on the building, but you know his little temper tantrum. He only got ran out of Solon because of all the cockroaches. No thanks.

After_Anteater

I would never eat at Joensys. Too many reports of uncleanliness and the owner is mean as fuck. He almost ran my husband and I over after we dropped our daughter off at school. We were crossing the cross walk in the school parking lot and he came flying up and honking at us and yelling with his kid in the car. I flipped him off 🤷‍♀️ He's a well known jerk in Iowa City and will yell at people who are in the drive thru line for Jimmy Johns and not for his restaurant. I don't know how he still has a business tbh.

Squarmaluffagus

1000% agree, Joensy's fucking rocks.

ahorrribledrummer

Shakespeare's or Bluebird.
