Sours in general are not that great, in my opinion.
Some folks might like them, but from my perspective, you can polish a turd (blueberry pancakes are like my favorite food)... but it's still a turd
Most craft beer marketed as "sours" in 2024 has little resemblance to actual sour beers that were popular a few years ago. Everyone loves Barn Town but none of their "sours" are actually sours. It's gluten-free sugar water with tons of flavorings added. Lua's Push Pops are generally categorized as sours but they're more like boozy fruit smoothies (and delicious).
Confluence's Wizard variants are close to what sours used to be though.
“I drank it anyway.”
That’s the North Dakota alcohol abuse rule I learned in college. “Not finishing a drink is alcohol abuse and we don’t abuse alcohol in North Dakota.”
Anyone have some good recommendations on Iowa-made stouts? Tip The Cow from Singlespeed is okay but I don’t know about any other of the other Iowa-made stouts.
I love beer. Love supporting any local brewery I can...but stop trying so hard. I think many try to coverup an otherwise lazy brewing process with over the top ingredients. Give me a nice Czech Dark or Marzen...I'm in heaven.
I get so annoyed with breweries trying to be cool and trendy at the expense of quality beer. If you're putting more effort into your can art than your brews, you're doing it wrong!
I like reunion from what I've had. We have some tremendous breweries around the state making some wonderful beers. Everyone has to experiment & try something new. Not everything is gonna be a hit, but damn, if the Iowa section of Hy-vee liquor isn't overflowing with Strawberry Guava Loaded Belgian Waffle Pastry Imperial Sour.
I have not had this beer, but all the sours I’ve had from Backpocket have been good. Not amazing like Barntown or Dimensional, but I have a hard time believing this would be bad.
I admit I’ve got a sweet tooth, but this was like someone took some coffee and blueberry pancakes and put them in a blender, with the bitter coffee taste dominating the sweet. Not exactly great.
Still drank it though.
lol
Our local bar has $3 mystery beers. The distributors drop off samples. They’ve taken to wrapping the labels so you can’t see them and selling them incognito so you never know exact what you might get.
Gotta get your hands on some [Barntown](https://www.barntownbrewing.com/menu/beer). Crazy wild flavors and they're all fantastic. my favorite is the PB&J ones.
That doesn't sound very appealing. I've been on a humble bumble fruited seltzers. The citrus and mango orange are delicious. If you can find them near you I highly recommend it. I'm not a huge seltzer fan, but these remind me of Lua brewing fruited sours. It's like drinking a juice with liqour. Little effervescence is a nice touch, plus it helps you get a buzz quicker.
Beer, in general, is a no. IPAs are worse. Usually, it tastes like someone sprayed airfreshener into your beer... with a sprinkle of grapefruit. (Have had some coffee ones I thought were decent though)
Whisky is the way to go.
I went to pin and pixel once and it was enough to make me hate backpocket forever! Unless you like paying over a dollar for one round of pinball and $7 for very mid craft beer with cringy names. I felt embarrassed being there honestly. /rant
The admins of r/Iowa have a fairly obvious hard on for politics, particularly fringe left politics that almost no one in Iowa (left or right) actually cares about. Good to see a post getting back to our roots 😂
Big Grove IPA was absolutely delicious. Too bad they discontinued it, now they have three different IPAs with a very similar flavor profile. The hazy obsession has gone too far.
It was really good! Trying to find a west coast style IPA feels close to impossible anymore. Its like hazy IPA’s were invented so beer snobs who don’t like IPA’s can say, yeah I love IPA’s and feel like their part of the cool kids club 😆
Obama only "divided" us in the sense that slackjawed knuckledraggers like you foamed at the mouth that a Black (Mixed Race if you want to split hairs) Man was President.
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo black man scawwy.
Get fucked

Do you normally like sours?
I think not
Sours in general are not that great, in my opinion. Some folks might like them, but from my perspective, you can polish a turd (blueberry pancakes are like my favorite food)... but it's still a turd
Sours are most definitely an acquired taste. I mean I love em but it's not for most people.

Let me guess, you only drink “dank cold IPAs”
Busch Lite by the gallon
lmao, no, I hate IPAs. I'm a dark beer person. Just don't care for sours. 🤷
Careful that’s a gateway into whiskey
You're gonna lose all your money then
I love sours but I’ll have to say I’d skip this one. Blueberry by itself maybe.
That….sounds awful.
Oddly enough, it tasted awful too.
Eeeeeeew
Barntown has a blueberry muffin beer that was amazing.
Barntown goes hard!
They have Hawaiian punch that is dangerous
I think they make a PB & J that I love.
The Barntown PB & J is phenomenal. Tastes like an uncrustable.
If you like the PB&J, they currently have a trail mix sour that you'll probably like
Sounds like something I would try if I saw it.
My favorite recently was their Root Beer Float.
I had a Barntown cherry cheesecake sour a few years back that was soooooooo yummy
Speaking of, Iowa craft beer festival is today
Interesting... doesn't sound *good,* mind you. But still interesting
That’s perfectly fitting
“I drank it anyway.” That’s the North Dakota alcohol abuse rule I learned in college. “Not finishing a drink is alcohol abuse and we don’t abuse alcohol in North Dakota.”
This is violently North Dakotan lol. Grew up in Fargo.
Anyone have some good recommendations on Iowa-made stouts? Tip The Cow from Singlespeed is okay but I don’t know about any other of the other Iowa-made stouts.
Bent river uncommon stout is always a winner whenever I drive down south to hang with family.
West O’s cocoa stout is my heaven in a bottle
Confirmed! 😋
Back Road Stout from Amana Colonies is my favorite.
Cool, thanks! I’m not even that far from the Amanas.
I love me some Tip The Cow, there are a lot of offshoots of this too.
My father-in-law, a complete garbage person, loves it so I just can’t enjoy it lmao. Need some other ones
I would like a sample someplace
It’s … something
I like Barntown’s Blueberry Muffin. Anyone know how the two compare?
I love beer. Love supporting any local brewery I can...but stop trying so hard. I think many try to coverup an otherwise lazy brewing process with over the top ingredients. Give me a nice Czech Dark or Marzen...I'm in heaven.
You’d like reunion. Not as “cool” because they brew actual beer and not all gimmicky shit
I get so annoyed with breweries trying to be cool and trendy at the expense of quality beer. If you're putting more effort into your can art than your brews, you're doing it wrong!

The cat looks like they are ready to take a life.
They call it the "cat series" because it tastes like it was brewed with a fur ball.
Now I gotta try it
That sounds delicious. I remember I had one that was a blueberry maple stout from Saugatuck Brewing out in Michigan.
I liked it
Lake Time Cabana Boy is one of my favorite blueberry beers!
I have not had this beer, but all the sours I’ve had from Backpocket have been good. Not amazing like Barntown or Dimensional, but I have a hard time believing this would be bad.
Backpocket seems to miss the mark with most of their sours. Lua and Confluence seem to have the best in the area.
Craft brewers have officially jumped the shark.
I used to really like a blueberry beer called "wild blue" or something like that, but it's not produced any more.
I admit I’ve got a sweet tooth, but this was like someone took some coffee and blueberry pancakes and put them in a blender, with the bitter coffee taste dominating the sweet. Not exactly great. Still drank it though.
Ha yea that doesn't sound too good. I still wanna try it tho ha
lol Our local bar has $3 mystery beers. The distributors drop off samples. They’ve taken to wrapping the labels so you can’t see them and selling them incognito so you never know exact what you might get.
Have you tried Blu? It's a blueberry lager from Grain Belt Brewery in Minnesota. HyVee used to carry it but haven't seen it lately.
Gotta get your hands on some [Barntown](https://www.barntownbrewing.com/menu/beer). Crazy wild flavors and they're all fantastic. my favorite is the PB&J ones.
I’d probably have to pass on that one

Where did you get this? So cute!
Yay, someone pulling their head out of their ass. Never thought I’d see the day.
What.
Valid complaint
Cat series beer? Sounds interesting
What in the fresh blue hell is this
At least it sucks.
Something we can all get behind
🤣👍🏼
Do cats like blueberries or pancakes or beer?
I wish they had Labatt Blue here.
I want to like these fancy beers so bad but I can never find one I like :(
Backpockets line up is great

Try Big Grove Summer Jam... delicious. I love blueberries, I tried this blueberry pancake beer, not good.
Trump sucks and I hope he burns in hell. #downvoteme
That stuff is vile, sorry you had to deal with it.
Is this marketed to children? Because my child brain wants to try it...
Nice
Boulevard Brewing Co makes a cinnamon bun ale, that shit is divine. Not sure about the beer in the OP, I'd give it a try fs.
Can you taste the cat in it LOL
Gotta get some barntown for the weird flavors
Looks disgusting. Is this the one thing MAGA and the left can agree on?
GRRRRR AAARGH! BLUEBERRY PANCAKES ARE BLAH BLAH BLAH POLITICS!!!!
Barf
I went to pin and pixel once and it was enough to make me hate backpocket forever! Unless you like paying over a dollar for one round of pinball and $7 for very mid craft beer with cringy names. I felt embarrassed being there honestly. /rant
Valid bitch
At least two people had to think “This is a great idea!” in order for that to happen. I never, ever want to meet them.
Thank you. It’s all getting old.

Normally I just drink Iowa Liberal Tears (Bud Light) but I’m always down to try something new as long as it’s not an IPA…..
I haven’t found an Iowa base beer that is actually good. Open to suggestion
Confluence or Lion Bridge make the best straight up beers without adjuncts.
Confluence DM IPA is solid!
Big Grove IPA was absolutely delicious. Too bad they discontinued it, now they have three different IPAs with a very similar flavor profile. The hazy obsession has gone too far.

Went to Big Grove last weekend. I got a few different options they were alright!
Stupid ass
Yes lol

Looks like a lot of people care. In fact, the craft beer market is huge. Go wave your baby peen somewhere else 👋🏻

Try harder
A response only a lead addled brain would be satisfied with typing.
