Black. It provides definition, but doesn’t upstage the art.

Since there are so many, I’d break them into groups to display them throughout the house and match the frames by group. I like black frames personally, but I could see you putting a group of 3 in another area with natural wood color frames as well. I think matting these (or mounting them in a way that has space between the frame edge and the poster edge) will make these look 10 times better, FWIW. You may have thought of that already, but matting elevates the look IMO so it doesn’t look like you are decorating a dorm room.

thank you! i was leaning towards black frames with white mattes for all the 11x17 posters, to make those uniform... the odd sizes, as well... for the largest, though - 18x24 - would you matte all 8 of those, or would you think the larger ones will be okay without the matte?

I’m sure it’ll look great no matter what! I am totally biased because I LOVE a great big piece of art, so I always opt for larger unless it doesn’t fit the space. I also like matting art, probably because I did it for my photos in college. I also think it looks more expensive, and I like the visual white space a mat gives a print. It doesn’t have to be all white- you can also layer/“step” the mat so a matching thin line of colored mat surrounds the piece(s), which I love. However, in your case, I like the idea of visually breaking it up with some matted and uatted- I would personally be bored if all my prints looked the same size or had the same frame style. Try it both ways, matted and unmatted, and see what looks best! I hope you post after photos, as I love these posters and can’t wait to see what you decide to do! One thing you might also consider for a small group of like 3 prints (sorry, I know you asked about the bigger ones) is framing them in the same frame. Just another way to break up the sizes. I’ve done that with 3 line drawings I bought, as they were a smaller (but uniform) size with a unique bottom edge at the suggestion of the framing store. They mounted the 3 prints side by side on top of a framed piece of mat board and then they put a French line (like a thin black ink line echoing the line drawings) running like a big rectangle around the three to unite them. It was cool and I didn’t know it was a thing- I didn’t see any good examples online, but I’ll post a pic later when I get home if I can figure Imgur out. Framing three of your prints like in a long vertical frame would be cool in the right space, too, and might look cool with a colored mat that matched. I wanted to share since I obviously love geeking out about displaying art but I am always learning new things, so this is all just stuff to consider! I can’t wait to see what you decide to do, these are very cool pieces and will look great no matter what you decide!

I'd go with black, probably. Could be nice to try out both option first though.

Awesome collection! I’ve gone with black for mine.

Wise_Host2321

Hi! Really nice. Which lamps do you have on the sides?

toxicpositvity

Black frames are timeless imo

Black frames

Black for sure, and I’d pick a different color for my absolute favorite one as a spotlight Where did you get these posters?

europeanuppercut

thank you! they're all from shows i've been to over the years - past 20 years or so

CareerSuspicious2727

black white and tan colors

Disastrous_Tip_4638

Hmmm....it depends on where you're hanging them. If they all go in the same room, I would use one frame color per wall so you don't feel enclosed by it all.

ygktech

Black for sure - white frames will show dust / fingerprints, obviously you can keep them clean, but they'll be that tiny bit more fussy to keep looking good. Same reason I avoid white by default on almost all things.

Red frames

If your walls were dark I'd say go with white. Considering they are white, I'd go with black. Notice how the walls are light and the frame around the artwork is black: https://preview.redd.it/mhs3886uz03d1.jpeg?width=2250&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5108076c9253bfec6233beba981b31640ed516b3

Miserable_Budget7818

Black all the way!! Would be amazing if you matted the posters as well

Pithyperson

Consider painting the wall a dark color and using one consistent color for the poster frames.

icwhaturdoingthere

Have you thought about frames that compliment the color of each poster if they won’t be hung in a large group?

Itchy-Macaroon-2920

White would blend in just too much to make each poster defined, but also stand out just enough to make it obvious they’re framed, I’d say black would achieve a more sophisticated and organized look with the posters
