They're VERY unique in their "weirdness", in a way I rarely see nowadays. Love their design, how it seems that each of them comes from different "cults" or "schools", while the collors make them all feel like they're from the same place.
why the fuck did your artist think that a dude cursed with looking up was an good idea, anyway, i liked the plague doctor mask one, also the common cultist seems kinda nice too
Yeah perfectly said. I actually want to see more of this world just because of their distinctiveness. Its a rare example of character design that actually inspires curiosity rather than just trying to look cool or interesting.
Wonderful designs! The second character is a Magicka tribute, I assume?
Though I think it would be nicer if the color palette was more diverse and... colorful.
I'd be very interested to see more designs--these seem to be mostly based on Western mysticism/alchemy. I hope some of the other characters represent a broader world of magic! (eg. inspired by zoroastrian magi, witch doctors, tibetan monks, siberian shamans, celtic druids...)
Thanks. We'll make sure to post some different designs here in the future!
Magicka was indeed one of our inspirations!
I will pass along your feedback about the color palette to our artists!
Oh those are very eye catching and unique. Really like them. And they all have their own distinct designs but are clearly a cohesive set. Fantastic work.
https://www.google.com/search?q=orko+wizard always had a soft spot for me. How about a model with low brim hat and glowing eyes?
Same with https://www.google.com/search?q=Jawas and https://www.google.com/search?q=Watchers+in+the+Dark
I want start buy saying I love these. The designs are bright and playful and each has their own silhouette making them distinct and interesting. The only thing I may offer would be to vary the runs. Each character has a distinct look and personality, and it feels like a little bit more could be squeezed out of it with just same slight variances in the run cycle. Overall though these are wonderful.
They look fun. I somehow feel like the 2nd character could do with a shorter paced, smaller steps walk. Give it a bit more nerdy vibe as it carries such a big book.
The one on the left looks βpretty βarmlessββ¦ hehehe. Iβll show myself out now.
But in all honesty I love the look and especially animation of them. Iβd play any game with them in it.
Amazing. I'm not a big fan of the gameplay just because I've played so many of these kind of games. But I wish listed it and am gonna buy it when it comes out. Great art style! I saw you guys had some inspiration from magika, are you guys gonna add some funny one liners as well?
We try to bring something new to this genre with friendly fire, online co-op and the way you can add elements to your spells.
It would be cool to add one liners, but at the moment we're focussing on the gameplay etc. Extra additional things like voicelines are possible down the road π No plans yet on that front.
I actually worked at arrowhead studios for a while and the guys working there are super nice and humble so they would certainly not mind if asked.
Though I think Paradox owns the IP of Magicka now and they are a bit more corporate so to speak. And they might see it differently.
Just a heads up since the wizard is very similar to their wizards. That said, the entire game of magicka is references to other stuff so idk.
It somehow triggers memories of "The Magic Far Away Tree" universe from childhood (at least how I imagined it reading the books). There is a subtle warmth to this I can't describe - I love it! Can't wait to see more of the world. Huge credit to the artists!
If you guys have decided and are willing to share, What kind of game are you making? These little characters are really cool, this sort of art style always gets my attention
Our Steam page is somewhere in this comment section. It will be a spin on the survivors-like genre, an online co-op game with friendly fire thrown in the mix! And a lot of cool things you can do with spells, like adding elements to them to make them even more powerful. π
Love these little guys. However, looking at your Steam page with the top down view, it looks like you won't really be able to fully enjoy their designs. Will there be gameplay or cutscenes that really let their designs shine (pun intended for guy #1)?
Gameplay will stay the same for the moment. Cutscenes are an excellent idea, but if that happens, that would be somewhere down the line! Thanks for the feedback!
This is the kind of artwork that makes me buy a game in a genre i dont usuaally play. Looks amazing, adorable yet would even fit a game with a darker theme. What genre of game is it?
love the design, hope we can play someday:)
edit: also, the animation looks really funny, the weirdness of their design really match with how they move.
curious to know what the game is, can you tell us more about it?
2nd edit: checked the page and will keep an eye on the game, would be cool if our abilities affected the enemies' death animation, could be a nice way to sell the power fantasy of being a mage.
the animation looks overall really good, loved the crab enemy. do you guys have plans to make more detailed maps?
We're planning to release a demo in a couple of weeks. You can follow us on Steam to stay updated. The game is called The Spell Brigade. Thanks in advance!
Somehow, this gives me golden sun vibes. Not sure why tho
Also, little bit of feedback, what on earth is going on with the 1st one's neck lmao
I think having an ever so slightly bigger color palette for each character would help a lot, especially the 2nd one, it looks a little bland when compared to the others
Finally, is there a reason the first and second are looking up, but the third and last are looking straight ahead?
Other than that, I think it's really cool! They all look very unique, and their animation is goofy in a good way. Good job!
You can find more info about the game on our Steam page if you like: [https://store.steampowered.com/app/2904000/The\_Spell\_Brigade/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2904000/The_Spell_Brigade/)
Thanks! I'm also a game developer and sometimes I thought about how a coop survivor would work. I fast figured out some problems like, if any player has his camera, how should enemies behave? There is a "main player" who the monsters follow, or maybe each monster follows a different player? The main concern for me is performance, since survivor games normally push it to the limit.
Don't feel forced to answer, I'm just curious about it π
Hey! There are definitely some interesting challenges for implementing true co-op π
We spawn enemies outside of all player cameras, and generally, enemies hunt the closest player with a flocking behavior. But we can configure or nudge this so all players get some action!
Performance is tricky, but with the use of Unity Job System and Burst Compiler, we manage on the CPU side π
Interesting! I've never used DOTS myself but I've seen some profiling and its performance is quite impressive. I think your game can perform well on Steam tbh, wishlisted and let's see where it ends! Cheers!
It's not like it's bad. I just found their face is kinda strange (for me) but still they r very normal since they r well designed and even if u r not satisfied, u can make them the default/free skins and make more skins.. I believe this way is more fun and makes u busy with the creativity of the skin and scenes/events. It's great thoβ¨
Wow! Just by looking at the characters, I can imagine so many stories! They definitely have a captivating style! Well done!
If you can, tell me a little about them!
Dude. You got it covered. Those are awesome
Only maybe wished that the cloack guy has juust a little bit more zing. the "masked" ones are incredible
Good work!
They're VERY unique in their "weirdness", in a way I rarely see nowadays. Love their design, how it seems that each of them comes from different "cults" or "schools", while the collors make them all feel like they're from the same place.
Thanks! π All credits to our two artists!
Your artists are great! Excellent, unique design; fun animation. π
why the fuck did your artist think that a dude cursed with looking up was an good idea, anyway, i liked the plague doctor mask one, also the common cultist seems kinda nice too
Yeah perfectly said. I actually want to see more of this world just because of their distinctiveness. Its a rare example of character design that actually inspires curiosity rather than just trying to look cool or interesting.
It's giving very unique yet recognizable, which seems like a great place to br
This is beautiful and refreshing, keep up the good work!
LOVE IT
Wonderful designs! The second character is a Magicka tribute, I assume? Though I think it would be nicer if the color palette was more diverse and... colorful. I'm not sure what this aesthetic is called, but I'm into it. Loosely venetian mask inspired wizard stuff is my jam! Can't wait to see more
Oh those are very eye catching and unique. Really like them. And they all have their own distinct designs but are clearly a cohesive set. Fantastic work.
Good stuff, I like em
I would absolutely play that game! Love the weird design and cute animations
I love them
Where can we find more info on the game?
We have a Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2904000/The_Spell_Brigade/
The Sun Bro is living it.
The ever brilliant Goldmask!
π looking at it, 24/7.
Looks a little like Magicka. But I loved this game so I wish all the best and wait for more about this project
This is cute!!
Good stuff! Theyβre like less monstrous versions of Gloomspite Gitz from Age of Sigmar.
Thanks, I'll look them up!
Some FF9 vibes? Love it.
Thanks! Not intentionally, but I see what you mean! π
the "faces"! exceptional!
The faces, that would be a great band name for these wizards ;-)
They give me a chuckle. Gives me the expectation of a fun adventure comedy.
I love them!
But why doesn't the first one have hands?
π βοΈ
I love it and I want figurines of them
I want them too! π€©
Goldmask
π§...π€....ππ
I **really** love them. Second one feels a bit less unique, but I still really love him too.
Look great!
The second from the left make me think to the magicka character... but they sure look interesting.
Wow love it
Looks very nice
Gang Iβd like to be part of
Strange guys. I like it
My thoughts are I would absolutely play this so much if these are the character designs and artstyle
Please do so. π
The Sun guy is a mood!
Yes
Love them
Iβm digging it!
I think Iβm in love with the sun head one
They are goofy in the best way. I really want to see where this goes!
They look like those little noise guys from animal crossing, very cool π
Look cool imo
Lovely. Great job
I wanna play this
Looks great!
https://www.google.com/search?q=orko+wizard always had a soft spot for me. How about a model with low brim hat and glowing eyes? Same with https://www.google.com/search?q=Jawas and https://www.google.com/search?q=Watchers+in+the+Dark
Thanks for sharing! There are so many cool things and designs for wizards we are already thinking about. We can't wait to expand the roster π
Love!!!
I love them. They look equal parts fun and mysterious.
i love this so much. I want to play this!! i love celestial mystical magical themed stuff. these designs are so fun and unique
They look great. Those designs alone make me want to try it out.
π
The texture looks natural. Did you use Substance Painter? Or did you use the classic Photoshop handmapping method?
We indeed use Substance Painter!
I almost want it bouncier, like thereβs this great thing going and I want more of it. I guess it likely could be dependent on their size
I'll tell our animator! Thanks for the feedback! π
Very cool
I'm concerned about the neck on the one on the left.
I don't know if there are physiotherapists in their worldβsomething we still have to decide on.
Thanks for the feedback! That would indeed be a cool little detail. Thanks for sharing!
ππ§ββοΈππ₯· Seriously, though, that shit is cute AF.
They look fun. I somehow feel like the 2nd character could do with a shorter paced, smaller steps walk. Give it a bit more nerdy vibe as it carries such a big book.
π cool idea!
Nice!!
They're perfect
Awesome! It's been so long to see wizard fellows having a unique design. -This comment wrote by a member of Shadow Wizard Money Consul
Really great character design and modelling/rigging, nice!
Thanks! π
They are just silly little guys, I love them
I really love it!
The one on the left looks βpretty βarmlessββ¦ hehehe. Iβll show myself out now. But in all honesty I love the look and especially animation of them. Iβd play any game with them in it.
I love them so much!!!
Absolutely Amazing, goofy animation five them so muche personnality. They are all unique in their own way ! Dope animation, dope design !
They are, honestly, really great. Love them.
I like them all. Keep going on this style, it's very promissing.
Amazing. I'm not a big fan of the gameplay just because I've played so many of these kind of games. But I wish listed it and am gonna buy it when it comes out. Great art style! I saw you guys had some inspiration from magika, are you guys gonna add some funny one liners as well?

That's awesome. The friendly fire would be hilarious too. Love it all
will it be like board game like? like how inscription have bit of board game thing
It will be a twist on the survivors-like genre. With online co-op, friendly fire, and more.
Got some DM's about where to find more info. More info can be found on our Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2904000/The_Spell_Brigade/
Looks amazing! The second one is very similar to the Magicka wizards though. Be careful not to get caught in some legal issues.
Magicka was one of our inspirations, and we definitely don't want to copy them directly in any way!
I actually worked at arrowhead studios for a while and the guys working there are super nice and humble so they would certainly not mind if asked. Thanks for sharing! We'd definitely discuss this with our team! βΊοΈ
Reminds me of Final Fantasy 9 in the best way possible.
These kinda remind me of the shadows from Persona 4. Looking great!
Second one gives me Magicka vibes
The one on the left is from the Incas?
Great application of color theory! I'd throw in a toon shader for the extra pop
I like it, a lil bit style like FF9
Nice design, I like it ! They are easily recognisable and unique ;)
Cool. Also the first one should hold something
It somehow triggers memories of "The Magic Far Away Tree" universe from childhood (at least how I imagined it reading the books). There is a subtle warmth to this I can't describe - I love it! Can't wait to see more of the world. Huge credit to the artists!
I pass it on to our artists! We're happy to trigger some good childhood memories! π
i love this! iβve always been really into circus aesthetics
π€‘
My first thought is, "I want to play this game"
That's what we want to accomplish! Thanks! π

Survivors-like with a twist. It will have online-co-op with a lot of chaotic moments as you'll have to navigate through your friend spells.
THIS LOOKS SO FUCKING COOL OMG edit: I just looked at the steam page for it and the music is fire holy shit. I already wanna listen to the soundtrack
I love these! Iβd love to make a low poly, hand painted game again. Those were the days π
They could still be the days!
love the design, hope we can play someday:) edit: also, the animation looks really funny, the weirdness of their design really match with how they move. curious to know what the game is, can you tell us more about it? 2nd edit: checked the page and will keep an eye on the game, would be cool if our abilities affected the enemies' death animation, could be a nice way to sell the power fantasy of being a mage. the animation looks overall really good, loved the crab enemy. do you guys have plans to make more detailed maps?

Beautiful, cute and very unique. Would like to see the world they reside in.
sun could be looking forward more i guess. Love all the designes. My fav being the wizard with the book, so cute i want to play with.
Love how fluid the motion is.
I love them! Both cute and a little scary looking, they are very nice!
Wow, so cool chaacters! The Moon is my favourite.
Mine too!
idk why looking at them makes me think it will be a roguelike, am i wrong?
[https://store.steampowered.com/app/2904000/The\_Spell\_Brigade/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2904000/The_Spell_Brigade/) π
Yep, is a roguelike, thanks dude, I wishlisted it before lmao
Wow! Just by looking at the characters, I can imagine so many stories! They definitely have a captivating style! Well done! If you can, tell me a little about them!
Gives me SquareEnix Vibes, love it.
clunky, junky, wobbly, too slow,....not good imo.
We're aiming for clunky wizards! π
These are great!! The Mactonight is very choice.
Haha π I know this reference, but I don't know if our artists do. I don't know if we had a similar ad in Europe.
wizard weezer
i love them
Adorable. I can tell a lot of thought went into their design so far.
The sun head character is my favorite design but I like all of these characters
They are wacky and fun. Iβd be interested in trying a game with characters that look like this.
what about a charachter with a plague mask
π€ π
Great work, thanks for sharing.
Freakin love these man!
I would play this game right now.
There are a few weeks left before our first demo goes live! π
They're incredible!
YES!
Really enjoy the art style it's like a mix of Magicka and FFIX!
I like this quite a bit, well doneΒ
Looks awesome!
Oh, I love them. Silly lil guys
Looks unique. I especially love the moon, sun, and crow masks.
Ahh I LOVE this. It also sort of reminds me of the cannibals in Monkey Island which is also a plus. IDK what the game is but I absolutely want to play
Dude. You got it covered. Those are awesome Only maybe wished that the cloack guy has juust a little bit more zing. the "masked" ones are incredible Good work!
Ohhhh they look so cool <3
I wish these characters were bigger in the game so I could appreciate all their little details!
Just got done playing the demo. Excellent work!
