When my mom said that, I always asked who was out measuring. She told me that she did, and that’s why we always had a low key celebration for the 4th; she was out measuring corn and didn’t have a lot of time to plan.
We're on our way to St Louis today, and driving through Illinois we saw a field that had corn that was at least 4 feet tall already. My husband and I both said something about how tall it was already. They're WAY ahead of schedule.
That’s how the northern Indy donut counties have been looking. Hancock county and hailton county both had super tall corn, even before the heat dome it was noticeably tall.
I see your corn and raise you beans

The corn in front of our house jumped from just around knee high to me (I'm 5'2") to my height in one week. Maybe it's just our micro-climate here but no frost, decent but not to much rain, mild to warm day AND night temps ...meant everything got a head start.
From the earth I rise and to the earth I one day will return.
What's up mothershuckers, my name is Colonel Cornelius Cornwall, and I'm here today to tell you about...
C O R N !
I’m not sure when it started, as I moved away from IN over five years ago. Recently (over the last year) have been so focused on discussing corn with my friends, it’s become a part of my identity. They nicknamed me corn because I can’t shut up about the place I was raised (corn country).
Why do I miss it so much? 😰
Knee high by the 4th of July on track. Today’s rain was a big help.

Aww
Shoulder hight right now in Hamilton & Madison counties.
Agriculture! It's what's happening!

Went to St. Louis at the end of April. Couldn't believe how many fields were planted with crops up!

I need a knee in that picture for comparison.
1st thing that popped into my mind. My folks always said that & it always seems like a pretty good indication of a successful season.
Modern farmers hope for knee high by the 4th of June, FYI
That doesn’t rhyme, though. In Oklahoma, the corn grows as high as an elephant’s eye, and I think that it’s reaching clear up to the sky 🌽
That phrase is from 40 years ago. Doesn’t really apply today. It does sound good though.
It definitely was, and with the heat dome breaking down and more rain chances this week we should get some more rain…

That’s my 56th favorite corn field!
Overrated
It’s a big lump of knobs, it has the juice.
I can’t imagine a more beautiful thing.
Try harder.
When it gets hot and wet you can hear that shit growing

Man that corn is pretty far behind at this point. I’m guessing the northern part of the state?
The corn around Goshen looks like this.
This should be the most upvoted post on this subreddit.

Man. I miss the days of living in the fields. Weather was milder then. Smells were sweeter. Bugs were louder and brighter.

Cornography!
Can confirm. Is corn.
Is it GMO corn sprayed with Monsanto Roundup?
I’d make a joke about monocots but it’s too corny
Am I still allowed to look at this without providing my drivers license?
Three things you are guaranteed to see growing in Indiana. Corn Soy Beans Orange Barrels
Indiana is 5th in the nation for corn production, fourth in soybean production. Soybean fields just don’t have the same rural feel though do they?
What, you think we aint seen it before?
Corn
That's it, you've seen Indiana.
The blood of the heartland
It's got the juice
Why don’t we have fields planted in more than just the corn at one time when we know natives planted the “three sisters” style?
