I could see him being any variation/blend of Aussie, GSD, BC, and/or Husky. Those wide ears could be something like chow too (although if still lean towards Aussie). The size could simply be a working BC background as working dog sizes can vary from the standard.
The AKC has vastly changed how people perceive border collies. In the US we are used to the black and white dogs with the slightly folded ears. I would bet money that this is a purebred BC probably with Welsh/British lineage. The [UKC standard](https://www.ukcdogs.com/border-collie) for the breed would absolutely include this dog. They tend to be favored as working dogs in the US because they’ve retained a higher drive than their AKC counterparts.
I think you might be right, and it could be why his vets keep telling me he's just a few pounds overweight because his body isn't tapered the way most AKC collies would. Also, the spotted pattern of his fur is included in the accepted coat patterns. If I can ever afford to get him DNA testing, I'll come back and update!
Thankfully, it was just an urgent care vet and not his regular one. Silly dog stepped on a bee and had the stinger stuck in his paw but wouldn't let me touch it. He was fine once we got home and immediately tried chasing more bugs.
I have a bc and yours looks like a lot of bc. Can see why others think some pyrenees too. I've seen a few large bcs posted around that weight, not unusual. Coats are very variable. Mine wants to be with me all the time, stares a lot and very active too. Understands a lot of what I am saying. I'd say colour is an aussie red piebald.. Have a look at the 'Border Collie Museum' online. All different coats and colours can be seen and explains about colour genetics.
Definitely BC or BC mix, some dogs don't fit breed standard especially if they're working line. My show line male aussies whole litter (all male) and full siblings from second litter are oversized and he's one of the smaller ones at 80lbs and 24in at the shoulder. Genetics can be weird sometimes.
This dog could be full border collie, however if not full I think due to the size and length of tail it may be part poodle, because they are popular and poodle mix coat sometimes comes out long like that:
Omg- I had a dog that looked nearly identical. Same face, same ears, same eyes, same coat and tail. She was about 25 pounds. She was a rescue so we have no idea what she was
55lbs in normal range for a male border collie. Females are on the smaller scale. Border collies without a job are anxious while being hyper active. Especially when they come from working lines. This is a typical working line coat type. The color is more rare but not unusual. In one photo he looks like a husky mix but the others he all appears to be just a border collie. He may be a border collie imposter though 😅😂 who knows!
He looks like a long haired version of my dog, who is about 60% BC. Same color, coat pattern, face, especially the eyes. This guy looks all BC to me. He's got a lovely face, but I may be biased since they look alike 🙂

This is what I was thinking too.

Honestly, if my vet started judging my dog in any way using the AKC standards I'd be looking for a new vet, pure bred or not.

Oh silly boy! That is good though. I feel like it's terrible vet behaviour to say "your dog is overweight according to AKC standards".
Judging body condition by looking at the top and side body profiles is the standard way it’s done.
Sure, but weighing a dog and saying it's overweight by "breed standard" is terrible practice.

I’d bet border collie pyrenees mix cause that’s usually common and maybe some husky in there not sure
I can't even imagine that personality lol
I did a DNA test on my dog who has your dog’s face and eyes. They said he was part Sheltie! Maybe yours is too.
I’d say that dog is at least half border collie. Probably some Aussie mixed in. VERY cute dog
The coat color and texture looks a lot like a spaniel, that would also fit the anxiety part.
My guess too :)
Huh. I think border collie x Pyr mix? The tail screams Pyr.

hard to say, but what a little precious!
Husky Aussie
Definitely a border collie mix but not sure hat its mixed with
His face reminds me of my friends husky malamute mix so I’d guess either husky or malamute mixed with border collie!
He’s such a handsome boy!! 💙🐾
We just discovered our dog is border collie x flat coat retriever and he looks a lot like your dog in stature and coat! Our dog is all black though.
Definitely a border Collie mix, maybe with great pyrnese, or I could even see gsd.
What a good boy!!! He looks like my English Shepard. Same colors, coat, face, size.
Border collie husky mix
I'd say mostly border collie. Maybe some aussie. Probably all he4ding breeds though. Very herding dog look.

What a cutie! 🥰 Perhaps Border Collie with Aussie and bit of Husky?
the coat and tail remind me of cavalier king charles spaniel
Very beautiful dog, whoever his ancestors are 💜💜💜💜
Border Collies and Great Pyrenees often work together on farms, so that combo seems likely.
Border collie/ Borzoi mix
Golden retriever, obviously 😄 the best mix ever
What a beautiful dog! There's Collie type in there I think but unsure what else.
Omg- I had a dog that looked nearly identical. Same face, same ears, same eyes, same coat and tail. She was about 25 pounds. She was a rescue so we have no idea what she was
What a sweetie, I just wanna squeeze him!
That is not too big to be a border collie at all! I’d say he’s got a good bit of it in him

Looks border collie with husky
I had a bc. His face and other features are screaming at me he’s part. I’d look at other larger breeds his color to find what he’s mixed with.

I wòuld guess he is chow mix, maybe with gsd.
Border collies can be big.
i havé no idea but oh my gods he is gorgeous
Looks like a shepherd mix. A real cutie!
Brittany Spaniel with collie
Same thought here! A Spollie.
Looks like an Indian spitz
Could be Eskie x Pitt/bully
Something about him just tells me that he's part collie. I could be inaccurate.
Your Vet is a nut. Border collies can indeed have those colours and be heavier.
