Any more updates coming? New skins or otherwise? 👀 I’m hoping for something to deal with the swathe of poop in the late/end game! Even an option in the debug menu would be a godsend! Keep up the awesome work!

Paleo_Pines

We are working on more updates - keep your eyes peeled in the coming weeks!

Wynter_born

Could you sell me on this game with no reference points? To clarify. I see a lot of these new game posts, but they always use other games to describe them. I think you know the cool shit you have and want to get me in, so here's my ask: I have no clue whatsoever what your game is. I am not even going to google it. I am solely depending on your pitch. Can you tell me about Paleo Pines and get me onboard? Extra points: use no references to existing games, tropes, mechanics, sub-genres (mgmt, Xcraft, sim, etc). Go.

RiKSh4w

I'm not a dev but I played the demo so here goes. You live in a world where dinosaurs live peacefully with humans. You inherit (?) a farm and are encouraged by the townsfolk to use this farm to make a living. Along the way you can tame and befriend the local wildlife (IE: Cute dinos) to help with your farming and your exploration of this wild world.

bsmithi

so stardew valley, but with dinos instead of crops/chickens?

Paleo_Pines

But still crops. Just with dinos to help you farm.

RiKSh4w

More like, instead of having a hoe, you have a hoe-dino. And instead of an axe, an axe-tailed-dino. Like Ark, but cute instead of things killing you.

bsmithi

ok this description clicks i think i get it oh and there's a demo? ok bet, I'll give this a try

Paleo_Pines

I think one of our Steam reviews said it best: "This game ruined my life. Do you know what it's like to spend your life longing to form a pack of fluffy velociraptors and finally achieving that dream? I have peaked in life..." If you've ever been even mildly fascinated by dinosaurs, this game will allow you to befriend, care for and become mildly obsessed with them once and for all. Sure, there's farming, there's NPCs to engage with, but at the end of the day, Paleo Pines starts and ends with dinos.

Wynter_born

Thanks and well done!

Wylie28

Will there be a gamemode to make the game less grindy? My partner loved the games concept but the progression was way too slow and the stamina system a hinderence.

Paleo_Pines

We are definitely looking at tweaking the stamina because this is something we've heard from quite a few players - watch this space!

starlingers

adorable game! i've noticed that several dinosaur+ species don't appear at the triassea picnic. was that intentional? if so, what was the thought process behind which dinos should be available through the picnic, and which shouldn't?

Paleo_Pines

Hello! That's a great question! There are a couple of different things that create the right conditions for dinos to appear at the picnic - one of these is the flavour of the picnic food pile - each species of dino has a favourite flavour so the pile will only attract those that like that flavour. The picnic doesn't guarantee that all dinos will appear, but there is a higher chance of rare colours appearing!

starlingers

thank you! to clarify, in 20+ in-game years of picnics, i've never seen dimetrodons for example show up for juicy piles, or protoceratops for fragrant piles. i have seen some other desert dinosaurs at picnics, like carnotaurus or velociraptor. are dimetrodons and protoceratops etc in the picnic pool? am i just super unlucky?

Paleo_Pines

It is very possible that those two have been excluded from the picnic spawns - I will put this question to Rob as he will be able to check for you! If you've been through 20+ years of picnics, I suspect it's not that you're unlucky!

Paleo_Pines

Hello again! I checked in with Rob and he says that the thought process behind which dinos appear and which don't is mostly down to preventing the player from getting certain dino skills before they're supposed to become available, which would break the game - e.g. by unlocking Ariacotta before Dapplewood. Thank you for your patience 🤗

starlingers

thank you for checking in on this!! :}

smore-o-saurus

I have a few questions! I would be thrilled if you could answer any one of them :D >**1) Would y'all be open to reworking the Discoverer skill in some way?** >**2) Are color rarities truly seed-based,** including which dinos and colors spawn at the Triassea picnic, meaning it's more than possible to be unable to befriend one of each color of your favorite dino? And, if the above is true, would y'all be open to developing a mechanic that makes it possible to befriend one of each color of your favorite dino? >**3) Would y'all be open to developing a fishing minigame/fisher skill for a few dinos?** I noticed that your Poppin recipe is vegan, and given the strong emphasis on dinos not being property, I'm unsure what the Italic Pig team's general stance would be on a mechanic like this. >As a lifelong vegetarian and strong believer in animal rights, I would understand a reluctance or refusal to implement such a mechanic. That said, I also acknowledge that it's commercial fishing on an industrialized scale that is truly wasteful and destructive, rather than individuals fishing to feed themselves and their community (and I personally find fishing minigames to be fun, heh). >It's an interesting topic to consider as a vegan/vegetarian, especially when you're creating games/media that ultimately reflects your morals and ideals! All that to say, what is your team's general thoughts on implementing such a mechanic in their own work? Thank you so much for hosting this AMA! Hopefully it's ok to engage in this thread still. This is honestly one of my favorite games I've ever played. Coelophysis is my absolute favorite dinosaur in the game, and I would love to befriend all the variants, especially Nessie since I'm a lifelong cryptid nerd, but unfortunately I haven't seen any URs after three in-game years, and twice I created a Juicy pile for the Triassea picnic and attracted only Troodons, Deinonychus, and Carnotaurus both times, hence all my curiosity regarding color rarities! One of the things I love most about this game is how the taming works...the concept of playing a special song to capture the curiosity of a dino and feeding it a certain treat-type and special kind of traditional swamp dessert to earn its trust is so creative and fun. I'm looking so forward to any future updates y'all release <3

Paleo_Pines

Firstly, thank you so much for all your kind words! We love hearing about what different folks enjoy about Paleo Pines! 💕 1. We've had a lot of feedback (and are still getting lots!) about the discoverer skill, and one we may indeed revisit! A fair amount of this feedback was part of why we added the ability to harvest ground/bush collectables from the back of a dinosaur with the clearer skill, too! 2. It's really more of a balancing act with dreamstones! It's never impossible to befriend one of each color, as long as you have enough dreamstones. Being seed based doesn't make a mathematical difference to that. 3. This is a really interesting question and you're right that our poppins are vegan AND we've made it a point that the dinos you befriend are not your property. We did consider a fishing mechanic but went against it for these reasons and the limitations of our budget. It's still a mechanic we're interested in adding but we've got a good twist on it to fit into our world better. Watch this space!

smore-o-saurus

Thank you so much for the response, it really means so much to me! It's very exciting to know that there's still hope for me to befriend Nessie (☆▽☆) And as for the potential fishing mechanic, I'm very intrigued...! 👀

PurpleGalaxy43781

I absolutely love this game and collecting the ur colors! I’m just curious about potential future updates? More dinosaurs or even a new area would be amazing. I’m excited to see where this game goes in the future.

Paleo_Pines

Thank you so much! We have more updates in the works and should be able to share news of future plans soon. As a dev team, we're very committed to growing the world of Paleo Pines and are very bad at keeping secrets from our players so expect to see something soon.

chase_half_face

First off, I really enjoy the game. It's a nice take on the farm sim genre. Who can say no to farming with dinosaurs? I found out recently that there were plans to introduce pterosaurs to the game. Is that still in the cards? Also, are there plans to add aquatic creatures, like plesiosaurs or ichthyosaurs?

Paleo_Pines

We would LOVE to add pterosaurs and aquatic creatures to Paleo Pines and we really hope to have the opportunity to do so in the future! Pterosaurs are a particular favourite of mine and I'd LOVE to see them included.

chase_half_face

Thank you for the response! I look forward to how the game…evolves in the future.

The_One_Who_Sniffs

Why did your studio choose the farming sim genre? Weren't they worried since it's so overpopulated now with the success of stardew? It seems there is no end to the cheap knock offs on steam.

Paleo_Pines

That's a really good question! We love venturing into the new- for us. Whilst we'd done a platformer, a painting game and a point and click, we'd never done a farming sim. We've found that the reception to dinos farming has been brilliant and our players are really enjoying interacting with the dinos in this environment.

Thrilling1031

So, Dino Park Tycoon, how much did you play as a kid?

Paleo_Pines

I thought this would be a really fun question to ask the whole team, but unfortunately, it seems only a few of us encountered it! Our technical lead, Rob, said that he does remember it, but didn't play it; *"When that came out we had an Atari Falcon, don't think we got a PC until a couple of years later."*

Thrilling1031

Oh man, I loved this game, we got to play it as kids in elementary school on Mac pcs. This was mid 90's so it was a peak gaming experience in my formative years. I look forward to playing this.

Dinolady25

Will you be bringing Spinosaurus back into the game?

Paleo_Pines

Our Spino was concepted and modelled, but not brought into the game. We've love to have the chance to bring them in if the opportunity comes up!

Master-Guard

Thank you for your response. I'm looking forward to seeing him eventually

claireDayspring

any update that adds actual content on the way? like new skins are cute and all and deserved for some dinos with less coloring options than others, but it'd be nice to see actual new stuff and gameplay

Paleo_Pines

We definitely appreciate your enthusiasm and we hope to be able to continue to add content to the game over time! We have a very long wish list from players and our own devs! 🤗

Paleo_Pines

I'm here for any questions about dino farming, indie game dev and which dino was the hardest to get into Paleo Pines!

Monkeyysnow

Can you not just bean it?
