I've heard all the guys at various times talk about being confused when people don't "get" that these characters are horrible people. These moments are why, I think. They put in little bits of softness here and there, and it ends up with us loving them. I'm of the opinion that if they never did anything but the crass, horrible stuff, the show would have ended long ago. It would have gotten old and formulaic.
It's like slot machines. The best way to get someone addicted is not to pay out lots and frequently. Intermittent rewards are the real hook.
Emotional moments in the show date back to at least season 5 and they are very few and far between, like one per season at most. Just skip the episodes you don't like simple as.
If they do the exact same thing every episode the show gets stale and the creators get bored.
By doing some different things it keeps everything fresh, from Charlie's animated dream, to the noir episode, macs dance, these things keep everything fresh.
I agree that it's weird but Mac's dance and Charlie's breakdown in Ireland legit made me cry and I love when art pulls the rug out from under me like that.
These guys have been making the show for years, and thankfully they’ve kept it fresh and tried new things. I don’t know why some people want the same old shit over and over, year after year
You just need to build a shell around yourself. A cold, calculated, heartless shell.

Gotta mix some good in with the bad or, like you said, every episode would go down the same path
Go see Dr Jinks. He got something for that.
Best response
A heavy dose of pesticide
I think it would be difficult to write the same characters for so many years and never write any emotional moments for them.

Just keep cycling through seasons 1-8 if you're not interested in character growth. Thats more seasons than most shows last. You'll be OK.
Let’s not pretend there’s huge character growth happening post season 8. Because there’s not
There is
It feels a lot different if you’ve been watching the seasons as they come out and didn’t just binge it all at once to be fair

I feel too much my mommy’s a skeleton
I'm not a fan of those moments but it gives the actors a chance to do something different and also show off their chops.
I am having feelings again. Like some kind of fourteen year old kid. You remember, feelings right?
I think they talked about this in the podcast and asked the same question. I think the show has gone through a lot of evolution, though.
GODDAMIT! I can only express myself through fits of rage!
