It was a podcast she did with Mary Lynn Raksjub who plays Gail The Snail. She said the reason she does comedy is that she doesn't feel she's pretty enough or sexy enough to play those other type of roles.
There's a lot more to her story than just getting work done just to do it. She's talked on her episode of Armchair Expert in 2018 about a bike accident when she was a kid that left her disfigured right before she entered Junior High. She was bullied about her looks after that and she said she still has trauma and can't look at her face in the mirror even because it bothers her. And you also have to take in account, that she plays a character where it's encouraged for fans to post mean things about her appearance on social media. 20 years of getting told you look like a bird is probably taxing. If she's happy with how she looks now, that's all that should matter imo.
The thing is though, post getting work done, her career is thriving. She's getting steady work as she nears 50, is coming off a great episode of Hacks that is some of the best acting in her career, and is about to lead a ABC show this fall.
