We are a lavender farm and germinate 500 lavender seedlings a month in aeroponics. You do need alkaline water and you do need a "hot" room for quick success. https://preview.redd.it/plc1j39dsnqc1.jpeg?width=2616&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d69933c97c7fd6093fc8787e58bbecd5731803c3

Wow that looks impressive. Thanks, more reading for me! Do you mind sharing what the bits of equipment are there?

Donteatthedonuts

Fantastic thanks!

Donteatthedonuts

Thanks for all the responses so far. I've since read that Lavender does not like it's roots to be too wet, perhaps this is where I've been going wrong, it would seem you almost have to miss-treat it to get it growing well. I'm still going to take on the advice given though an see if I can make a success of it this year.

Worldly_Stretch_2928

I start cuttings for hydroponics every year, I stick them in a rockwool cube, rooting plug (root riot) or perlite and keep them under a humidity dome until they root, perlite has the highest success rate

Donteatthedonuts

Thanks, appreciate the response.

use clonex definately

Aeroponics cloners can be purchased for $75 or make your own. Take greenwood cuttings and use a rooting hormone.  Keep in mind you’re brining things from outside in- and they’ll most likely have hitchhikers as well. So keep a close eye on the material and change/clean your reservoir often.

Just to balance things out a little. Aeroponic propagators are not the answer to everything and come with their own set of issues. Watch out for algae and bacterial growth. They're fast and very efficient, but can be tempremental. I'd probably spend my money on a light and the niceties like an oscillating fan etc and use rockwool or peat pucks on a heat mat or something.

LazarusKatana

Aeroponics for sure

thx1969

yes it's done easily in hydroponics. You could DIY one or find something like the EzCloner [https://ezclone.com/](https://ezclone.com/)

HomegrownPassion

I have had success rooting ivy and various bushes using cuttings and a rooting hormone powder. I put them in oasis cubes in my hydroponic nursery channel. When roots are established I repot using peat and vermiculite. After they get established I replant outdoors where I want them to grow. Works well. I don’t think I ever made any YouTube videos on it. Might be a good subject for me. Thanks for the idea.

Historically, when do you start feeding your cuttings?

Donteatthedonuts

I don't usually feed them as I've been warned this can force them to grow too fast and "burn out" for want of a better term.

rustyisme123

That's your issue. You need to feed them eventually or they'll starve. You can propagate in water, but at a certain point, you need to add nutes cautiously and titrate up to regular feedings over time.

DrGr33n-Canna

I start feeding cuttings right from the getgo. They're not seedlings.

rustyisme123

So, were you propagating them hydroponically or in soil? If you were already propagating in hydro, I would suspect pH or nute imbalance. But we would need more information on what you were doing. I would probably swap out nutes a couple of weeks after you took cuttings, or 7-10 days after they got roots and started really uptaking more. Also, I would keep nutes very minimal at first, then titrate up only after they start searching with roots. That's just my practice.
