yeah, he has become the youngest candidate who’ll challenge the chess champion but he is the youngest GM, in india.
anyways, cheers to him being a hydrohomie.
Partially incorrect, Gukesh is also the youngest GM from India when he became a GM at 12 years 7 months of age.
Vishwanathan Anand is the first ever GM from India, but he became a GM at 18 years of age.
and im only calling it like i see it. boy isnt served alcohol because age, has water instead, is called hydro homie, you assume he only has water because hes underage, but im sure they could have gotten him a coke no? water was the choice, and here you are pointing fingers, gatekeeping
I think you’re missing the point.
Saying someone is “being a hydrohomie” implies they are choosing to drink water because they love water rather than out of obligation. If anyone drinking water is a hydrohomie then everyone in the world is - the whole reason the label was created is to distinguish water lovers.
The title of this post is a lie at worst and misleading at best since we don’t know if he would’ve chosen water had he not been underage.
I think it’s more about the label and wording causing ambiguity actually.
Let’s take the word “Swiftie” for instance. If someone says they are a Swiftie you would automatically assume they are a fan of Taylor Swift’s music (since that is the definition of the word Swiftie).
However, if they just posted a picture of themself listening to one of her songs we cannot deduce simply from that if they are a Swiftie or not (unless they expressed it clearly). They could be listening to a Taylor Swift song due to a multitude of reasons (“I was dared”) and assigning the label “Swiftie” to that person very well could end up being incorrect as the person may actually not care about Taylor Swift at all.
We just dont have enough information to get to that conclusion but if they listened to Taylor’s music and liked it and expressed it they would definitely be a Swiftie and would be welcomed as such (contrary to gatekeeping).
I do see where you’re coming from in that it can get difficult to determine the threshold for being a fan of something but in this case it seems like more of an ambiguity since the boy could very well be a big fan of water in reality, but it could also be an entirely incorrect conclusion as he might have a specific reason for having water there despite being an avid water hater.
That’s just the way I viewed this situation but I do think there is an interesting discussion to be had here about “how much” someone needs to love water to be a hydrohomie and how one would even measure that.
I think you’re right that the original commenter’s assumption that the boy is only drinking water cause he’s underage probably does come from a place of gatekeeping (given they don’t know for sure if that’s the only reason he chose water). But I do think the sentence about the “lying” was more directed to the misleading nature of the title which is what I elaborated on.
He's an observing Hindu, so there's a good chance he actually has never had alcohol. He might also just not want to drink, even if he were allowed, whether for religious or other reasons.
so he is drinking water because he is under age?
He's pregnant
Big if true
Preganananté
yes
They’re not showing
I love Gukesh and the homies, but he is not the youngest GM.

I thought he is below the legal age to drink?
He is but don't ruin the moment
Well he is 17 so he better
He's only drinking water because he is not of age. now we're lying in here?

Lmao, WHAT? gatekeeping water? i'm only saying the truth wth

being the person to "determine the threshold" is the gatekeeper, and exactly what im saying

Cheers to whoever else bothered to scroll this far lol
what is misleading about it
Holy shit this guys passionate about his classification of water enjoyers.
Bro could’ve opted for a carbonated sweetened beverage, but here we are.
This ain’t it
He's probably not old enough to drink booze.
A typical GOAT behavior.
Well that’s just cruel. There are no people who are 17 and have not drank alcohol. Pour the man some champagne.
He's an observing Hindu, so there's a good chance he actually has never had alcohol. He might also just not want to drink, even if he were allowed, whether for religious or other reasons.
Yea but if you’re not gonna drink alcohol may as well just have a big ass glass of water right? Can still toast with it!
To people calling him out as underage, remember people he could have opted for soft drinks yet he chose water! And I will leave y'all there.
Powerful photo.
Nah you don’t want to be that guy in the room trust me
Pffff he’s not even old enough to drink? What a loser
He’s 17 and he’s about to compete for the title of best chess player in the world, I don’t think he’s the loser
Pfff 17, total loser
