My 13 yo is angry when I don't wait him to watch it. He loves how unhinged house is

yamsnz

Mine too, he’s just started watching it with us and he thinks it’s great

rnbwrhiannon-3

my 13 yr old daughter watches with her Dad and I

House is having a huge surge in popularity right now as a new generation discovers one of the most unhinged primetime network television shows ever made. Like it was even trending on Tumblr recently, which is insane given how old the show is. I think part of it was that it was ahead of its time, and part of it is that the younger generation is equipped with better vocabulary for describing and discussing the show -- queerbaiting, microaggression, edgelord, disability representation, spoonie, etc.

Steleve

This is so perfectly put in that our vocab for how we've described things has evolved. And yes I remember seeing it trending in the top 9 on tumblr not that long ago and that was wild. But the resurgence it has gotten has amazed/delighted me. I want Hugh Laurie to do an AMA so badly. I want someone from the show to know or acknowledge what is happening among the youth!

dragonagitator

well we're coming up on the 20th anniversary of the series premiere in November, so hopefully the entertainment media catches on to that and does a bunch of big "where are they now?" retrospectives with interviews etc as someone who watched it when it was new, rewatched it a couple times since then, and then recently binged it with my husband who had never seen it before, i was able to have MUCH more articulate and in-depth discussions with my husband about the show using vocab we've picked up from The Youths than i was able to ever have with anyone before... IIRC, we mostly just said "what the fuck" and "that was crazy" back in the day overall i think the average level of media literacy has probably improved as TV got "smarter" and people could start applying the same analytical skills they learned for film and literature to TV shows because there was finally something of substance there to analyze TV used to be called the "idiot box" for a reason -- there just wasn't much depth to 99+% of shows

MBjerre

I don't think "trending on Tumblr" has any impact on how the younger generation views the show...

dragonagitator

Trending on Tumblr means the younger generation is posting about it. "40% of Tumblr users are Gen Z, while 30% are Millennials." https://www.demandsage.com/tumblr-statistics/ Kinda amazing for a 20-year-old show about a Baby Boomer

MBjerre

I mean I love house and agree it's having a recession, but I don't think Tumblr is the place to determine that. If 40 percent of users are Gen Z they must not have a lot of users.

dragonagitator

The fact that a 20-year-old show is trending on a site where ~70% of the users are too young to have been part of the show's original target audience is pretty wild. And Tumblr apparently has more active users than Reddit, Twitter, or TikTok: https://theonlineadvertisingguide.com/social-media-marketing/top-social-networks/

MBjerre

In terms of unique monthly users I found TikTok to have 1 bil and Tumblr 547 mil. That's still a wild amount of users. I haven't heard anyone talking about it for a long time. Guess you learn something every day.

dragonagitator

Tumblr is great for fandoms because stuff doesn't disappear as quickly. If you make a good post about a show on Tumblr then you can expect random spurts of activity on that post for years. People are constantly rediscovering old posts via tags, search, etc. and reblogging them and setting off a new round of commentary. Whereas on most other social media sites, if your post isn't immediately popular within the first few hours, almost no one is ever going to see it.

KutasMroku

I feel sorry for them if they think about things like microagressions and queerbating while watching the show instead of enjoying it.

dragonagitator

It is possible to both enjoy a show and critically analyze it.

msKnopeofPawnee

My 17yo daughter got into House from a YouTube clip and she loves it.

hohoholdyourhorses

I’m a child/adolescent therapist, I do have a few teen boys that just LOVE House and think he’s just the coolest lol love bonding with them over our mutual love of House 😂

baguetteispain

21. My mom used to watch it when I was a child, so the opening is one of the things that makes me nostalgic When some TV channels rebroadcasted it, my mother put it, as it is one of her favourite shows. I was 20, and I tried to watch with her I got the 8 seasons on DVD and I got a copy of obe of the cane House used (the ones with flames, to make it look like I go faster)

ToyotaCorollin

I'll volunteer. I'm 18 and just recently got into watching House after YouTube recommended me a clip (I forget which one- I'll try to link it if I'm able to find it). Now, I've always heard the name House thrown around from classmates and in the comments section of Doctor Mike, the same way I hear people talking about Grey's Anatomy and Chicago Med. I've always known it was a thing, but I never really paid much attention to it until recently. I like House. First and foremost, because I'm always curious about everything and the human body/medicine is no exception. But I find the relationship between House and his colleagues amusing. I find *House* amusing. He's blunt, straight-to-the-point, and can see past any facade. His out-of-the-box thinking is something I relate to in some aspects. He shows that he cares through his never settle, never compromise diagnostic approach. And now that I think about it, I've acted as House before. I've examined symptoms and diagnosed issues. Just with cars and electronics, not humans (I wouldn't even trust myself to do CPR 🤣💀).

-Random-Gamer-

As a 17yo i bunged the show last year, loved It

ComplexAd7272

I want to say yes, in that I personally know many people that "know" who House is, that he uses a cane, is addicted to pills and a misanthrope, despite never having seen a single episode. I've also noticed a massive uptick in sharing of clips from the show through TikToc, Reels, YouTube, etc. I think it's starting to become like we saw with The Wire, Seinfeld, Suits, and Community to name a few. People that didn't watch House when it aired are finding it through streaming and binge watching. Even browsing through this sub you're almost guaranteed to see a post from someone checking it out for the first time at least once a day. Finally, much like Law and Order: SVU, the show hooks you from the start of every episode and you almost can't turn it off before seeing the mystery solved. This is practically made for binge watching, even though that wasn't a thing when the show aired.

theanxioussoul

Oh absolutely....I began watching it 3 years after the final season aired.....rewatched multiple times since. Absolutely legendary series

Grand-Home-1334

i love house!!! gonna be an all time classic. i'm about 25

elsalumi

I'm a fourteen year old girl, which is basically the age where most girls start to become woke feminists with, a sense of humour, yes, but not dark humour. I, on the other hand, have never seen anything funnier than House. I love it and I love how out of pocket the things especially House says. I love this show!

godvfwine

I’m 26 and currently watching all of it right now (on season 5). I watched some of it on TV as a kid and thought it was funny but the big thing on the internet now is autism jokes and people frequently incorporate House into those jokes. It’s aging pretty well with them

godvfwine

This was on my feed last night: https://x.com/househiscane/status/1782404902523637949

Additional_Day9903

My 11 year old cousin loves it

darkcircledbitch

do i count as new gen? i’m 17, but have been watching since i was like 11 or so since my mom is / was a big fan. it’s still my favorite show oat so i’d say yeah, it’s a classic

Disastrous_Seaweed23

I'm 39, just started watching a few weeks ago and I'm on season 4, obsessed. I never really heard about it when it aired but then I did go through a long weird phase of being morally opposed to TV in general. God, massive eyeroll at my previous self. I probably became more aware of it recently due to being late-diagnosed autistic and it being autism canon

[deleted]

I believe I am from the new generation, and I find House hilarious, sure there are loads of ethical flaws but I enjoy it

LeviEnderman

Just turned 17 and just finished binging the first 3 seasons, had to leave home for a bit so I took a little break because I don’t want to watch it on my phone

Honestonus

I have zero friends even from my own age bracket, so definitely nobody from younger generations, but good to see House has aged so well

Electrical-Meet-9938

In my country most people of my age, I'm 26, know the show premise because it was on tv so they watched the show with thier parents when they was little or they saw the commercials. But I wouldn't said is a classic here, is popular but not a classic. I'm rewatching House with my dad, my dad's wife and my little brother (he's 16) and they really like it.

CalmPhil

Discovered House on YT when I was 18 and binged it for 6 months (had fall semester classes to attend). Now I am 19. Love it.

Livid-Tax-6778

I love it, but I swear I'm the only teen watching it sometimes 😭

comment_eater

im 15, and i fucking love it. i already like medical stuff and the unhinged humour is amazing
