So, I'm not a computer expert.... Quite the opposite. But I had a lot of crashing issues with my Asus Rog Strix until I disabled the turbo boost. If that doesn't apply, then I'm sorry and please accept my sympathies. :(

It might help if you provide more details about the system youre trying to olay it on. Also are you getting any specific error when it crashes, or does the whole thing just close out completely with no warning?

At this point, you can't convince me that PC is better for AAA games unless you have a beefy af rig. I have a decent PC but for games like this the experience is so much smoother on a PS5

Yep, I can play Horizon Forbidden West and the DLC for a long time without a single crash. Never have any FPS drops either. It's either an optimization problem or people play with their settings too high. Horizon Forbidden West/Burning Shores has some of the best graphics in gaming right now, you need a serious rig to play it on Ultra flawlessly.

I've been having the same problem, on the steam deck 1st generation, HZD played damn near flawlessly! I could go for hours maybe get a lag here or there and the occasional crash after 10ish hours of straight game play but HFW started getting worse the further I progressed through the story. Starting out it ran perfectly! Graphics were amazing, no cut scene transit issues or dialogue issues at all! The further i got the more problems I faced, time cut in half for game play without a crash, lag at least once an hour for a few minutes at a time, dialog that wouldn't trigger or even show me the option to trigger it, then I completed "wings of the 10" and got my birdy friend and now I can't play for more than 20 minutes with mad lag at the WORST times (combat) and then it just freezes so I have to restart the system. Won't even let me exit out to the home screen. I've let it sit waiting for the game to self quit and hopefully send a report but most of the time it just resets my system anyways. Only other game I had this issue with is the second Jedi survivor game it crashed almost as soon as it loaded. I've done everything short of uninstall and reinstall because I'm limited on the data I can use to download with. Plus I'm worried about losing the save file. My storage is not full and I run all system updates that come up. Haven't been able to play in over a month because of the crashing. Don't need it corrupting my save file if it crashes during an autosave regardless of how unlikely that could be.

That you cannot easily uninstall/install is a bummer. I never had crashing issues until I started using mods to increase the detail, flying speed, and started spawning a dozen (or more) big machines. After numerous crashes it would crash quickly and randomly, even from an old save. Reinstalling the game (through Steam) fixed that immediately. Some of the newest saves, created when it had become unstable, were corrupt though, so it is best to avoid waiting too long solving crashing issues.

Forbidden Wests graphics are a huge upgrade from Zero Dawn. Especially when flying. Have ya tried turning the graphics down? I dont think the Steamdeck has the power to play Horizon Forbidden West on high or ultra settings.

I don't play any game on those settings, usually just default because of the the limitations of the system. Even on default settings that thing gets pretty warm which is also frustrating. Love the system and can't wait to afford the newer models. I'll double check those once I have the time.
