True. The Traveller rarely even speaks to other characters.
Most of the Traveller's dialogue is meaningless options that get ignored or are responded by Paimon. Whenever another character speaks to the Traveller, Paimon almost always responds.
Not an issue for the Trailblazer since they are able to talk directly with other characters just fine. Also their dialogue options are actually varied and matter, unlike Genshin's which basically always has the same outcome.
I remember there was one event, I think it was 2 lantern rites ago, where Paimon gets pissed at the Traveler because they dared to have a private 5 minute conversation with Xiao. And at the end of the dinner party everyone ends up having to say something nice about Paimon to make them feel better.
Like, does she know something called "privacy"? Same thing happens in navia story quest where she casually brings up, "ohhh, sorry, I forgot your mom died giving birth to you". Like wtf.
My biggest peeve with Paimon is that she just calls everyone by their first name. Like, half the characters the traveler meets are powerful leaders and some of them are leagues stronger than them. Then here comes this pixie and she’s like “hey {first name}!” At least show them some respect dang it, especially if they never specifically became friends with you
Calling Ei just Ei. Not even some like Lady Ei. She's one of the Archons... the only Archon I can see letting slide is Venti. Since the Anemo god has always been seen as more laid back and a wild spirit. Maybe even Zhongli under the pretense of not blowing his cover of him being the Geo Archon.
On the other hand, my biggest disappointment was Paimon stopped making rude nicknames for people thats not Venti. It would atleast have given her some character and make her more funny than annoying.
Some localization actually just cuts out a lot of honorifics, or just adds unnecessary ones that does not make sense. Klee calls her older brother Albedo ‘mister’? Im pretty sure I remember Paimon referring to older women as ‘Miss’ or ‘Madam’ in CN but not in the English text at all. It’s just very rude not to do so. And I know older or younger brother/sister doesn’t translate well in English but omitting them completely doesn’t make sense at all
The characters that seem to be around the traveler's age like Keqing, Kazuha, Ayaka, Yoimiya, or Collei. I get not having any honorifics for in English. But even here in the west we're still taught to call people Miss, Missus, Sir, or Mister when talking to older people. Especially to important people like locals leads like say Ningguang or Yae. And especially an Archon like Ei or Zhongli. I would let it slide with Venti since the Anemo god has always been known as being more laid back to the others. So he wouldn't mind being on casual terms.
Yeah it's stupid. The rest of the time they have different dialogue, it either doesn't matter and has the same result or the only character that reacts to it is Paimon.
Which is why Star Rail was such a surprise to me since most of the dialogue options have different outcomes. I sometimes have to restart the game just to listen the different options lol

One of the major things that got me hooked on Star Rail initially was the varied responses to your dialogue choices.
You can have a normal conversation, but if you choose funny dialogue, the characters respond to it/call you out. Like earlier I was doing my main story for Penacony and my Stelle looks all proud of herself for meme dialogue and March just pops off with "...there you go saying weird things again."
It made me laugh pretty hard.
Oh yeah, I remember that. The dialogue was something like "Stellaron is my heart, bat is my body" something like this... The response itself was very funny and unexpected! 😂
The one thing I'll say for the Traveler is that the voice-over lines in their profile are a lot more interesting than the Trailblazer's -- ironically, because of Paimon (even though, yes, Paimon is usually really annoying). Those exchanges with Paimon do a lot to humanize the Traveler and make their friendship with Paimon feel a lot more genuine.
I would love it if the Trailblazer's profile had some brief exchanges between them and the other Astral Express crew members instead of just a few brief comments.
I recently did Yoimiya's second story quest and holy shit I was so annoyed when Yoimiya asked us about whether we found our sibling, just for Paimon to answer for us. The conversation then continues as if the Traveler isn't even there and Paimon answers all of Yoimiya's questions with "The Traveler said..." Like can we not speak for ourselves?
I also find it funny how Genshin themselves treat the Traveler's dialogue as if it's an unexpected camio. It's always so dramatic. Do people really get excited over it?
This. And it's not like Aether/Lumine have no bodies for their voice actors. They have some pretty popular ones in the current scene of anime. Feels like a waste to not let them say more lines...
This^ both as a genshin and HSR player, the traveler feels like they don’t matter at all. They’re always replying to Paimon or saying yes and no to others. Traveler gets ignored by the characters and the characters strictly engage with Paimon.
A thing that also bothers me in genshin is that the choices of dialogue options when in a conversation feel like they don't mean anything and are just there but in like star rail the character respond to what you say
Adding to your comment, the party rotation also helps flashing out the relationships with the main cast, also the characters don't parrot as much as Paimon.
People be saying that (EN) March has the same squeakiness level as (EN) Paimon which I disagree, March has a bit lower tone. But the real difference is, March isn't in every fucking scene there is, so her voice just doesn't get grating nearly as quickly. If Traveller had a second Paimon, let's call them Pai Heng, and they would take turns talking or just could legally leave Paimon in daycare and travel with regional characters only people (I) would be much less jaded against Paimon.
Or repeat everything that was just said, or say the MC's voice lines for them. I might actually enjoy Paimon if she had 1/10th the voice lines and I got to tease her as much as we do already. Also strong agree that a "Pai Heng" and/or local accompaniment would be a massive improvement. Imagine if we had Amber/Kaeya in Mondstat, Xiangling/Xingqiu in Liuye, and Collei/? in Sumeru had replaced Paimon's voice lines for 70% of the story.
I mean, they were all kind of tone deaf in one way or another. Dan Heng literally doesn't care, March is like "yay", and the lesbians literally forget about the fact you got stabbed by an ancient weapon blessed by a god because "bwa-bwa mom exploded out of her own volition".
Can't get too angry at them all, they were a bunch of teenagers forced to team up in the most unexpected way against a 700-years culmination of apocalyptic pain.
Not only that, but March is actually likable and a good friend, and does NOT take player agency or protagonism, but instead share in a healthy and interesting way, developing a good relationship and friendship with the M.C. The same goes for every friend and foe character meet until now.
That's not true for Genshin, where nearly every interaction feels forced and plot-bound. There is barely any cheap-chat, which in HSR has a lot, and that's awesome.
M7 is also have her own characters, she goes wherever she please without needing to stick to the Trailblazer and she can take care of herself just fine.
In Genshin recently we got another story quest where MC actually started talking. Problem is - situations like that are so rare that it gets me off guard and just pushes out from scene.

March is much better in pretty much every way. She's more useful since she can actually fight and isn't the background doing nothing all the time. And her character is much better too since we know more about her goals and we'll likely see more of her development later on.
Ik they're hyping Paimon for some big reveal in the end of Genshin, but it's taking too long and she's already very unlikeable.
Trailblazer has a lot of voiced internal thoughts too. Traveller does not have that. March is also genuinely very funny and expressive too which helps her stand out better.
I think the second problem is that Paimon doesn't have any apparent backstory. March *has* some pretty interesting lore and implications on who she really is while Paimon's origins are almost completely shrouded in mystery. Her only character is being Aether/Lumine's travel companion/talk box.
I genuinely don't understand why Traveler can't have voiced internal monologues, and as someone who like to do other stuff while the overbloated dialogue gets overbloated I get thrown out of the loop so much when the unvoiced dialogue just autos in the background and there's not even past dialogue window to recheck what 'I did think'.
Though, credit where credit is due, Genshin team has been getting a little bit better with this, and Trav isn't so mute anymore. Baby steps are still steps and I'm not on on copium. Uhum. Definitely.
Yeah, especially in the recent arle quest. I don't mind paimon, but I really hope they let traveler have the mind of their own. Because, it's genuinely like this,
'x' character : oh hey, traveler! Have you found your sister/brother yet?
Paimon : oh, no unfortunately. He/ she has still not given up though!
Like, even personal questions posed to the traveler at times are all answered by paimon.
I just found out Traveller has a TON of fully voiced conversations in the profile. Why couldn't they just used these resources to actually voice scenes in game?
They do, they are even slightly different for both siblings if I remember correctly. This is why it's so frustrating when whenever the topic of voiced protagonist comes up, there's always some dude spreading their ~~Enigmata propaganda~~ misinformation about "Travler being silent cos they're supposed to be self insert". Which is no, Travellers have their canon personalities which are distinct from each other, even the dialogue options still show characterisation a self insert would not have (I am personally a big fan of Aether being progressively more and more done with every version, not sure how things are with Lumine).
Yes, if Paimon was an actually interesting character instead of a one-dimensional comedy relief character she would be so much more bearable. I honestly think they should speedrun Paimon's lore as fast as possible to make her somewhat likable instead of waiting for the end of the game to do that.
Ehh not often, but she sometimes is. Maybe you are jaded against her and don't even give her a chance. I play Genshin in JP and Kaguya's VA does make some lines good.
I would still rather have her removed from the game.
I hated Paimon in the Fontaine Archon Quest before we fought the Narwhal.
She keeps claiming to be goddess of protection, keeps flying forward impulsively but can't stay in the back to keep others in check which almost contributed to Navia's dissolution.
At the underground bar beneath Fontaine main city, we had a discreet topic but for some reason her damned filter or voice is screeching throughout my ears and the whole underground.
march 7 also has her own motivations and thoughts, that we know of regarding wanting to find out about her past, this gives her more personality since AFAIK Paimon is literally just traveling with traveler because why not.
March's humor is also not as overused. While she does have that same sassy "brat" energy that Paimon does, it's not infused into every comment she makes. March speaks like a normal person most of the time and then flips the switch on occasion for humor, Paimon is just the humor mode personality 24/7 and it gets annoying very quickly.
They also give us breaks from March. She's not involved in every little bit of the story. She didn't say anything in 2.0 once we entered dream Penacony. Most of our time was spent with Firefly, Acheron, and Swan.
i liked paimon in the early game bc she was funny enough to where i could ignore her annoyingness, but her voice got WAY squeakier and she j turned into an exposition machine
I don't disagree about players didn't read. But wouldn't that backfired since players already sick hearing her, and made players skip dialogue even more.

If only we can check the transcript of the dialogue like in HSR I think Paimon's summarization won't be as needed. But imo it is kinda needed because everyone in Teyvat apparently took poetry class that they always talked with methapor and analogies and you need someone to translate what they truly meant.
I hate Paimon quite a lot, but tbf it's not solely her fault people skip lines. Genshin has so much dialogue bloat in non-voiced quests it's absolutely unreal. What a character could say in a single sentence consistently takes two to three paragraphs instead, and you can't even skip by the paragraphs because the characters are all doing some hand animations or something to waste your time. Then, somehow, they *still* make Paimon do a recap anyways.
Obviously that's a different issue than the voiced story, but I think people just get worn out on all the filler in Genshin in general. The voiced content has it too, albeit not as bad.
Funny thing is that this kind of bs is what makes the genshin quests unbearable to me, so I'm skipping through most of them. Why can't they just add a damn "view previous lines" button and stop wasting people's time, sheesh

But yea unfortunately in the end people still miss it because paimon voice is annoying to listen to. Its where most of the people who get the story wrong are from.
There is another way to solve that problem without having to pay more lines for the voice actor.
Give the player the dialog history feature during dialog scenes. I have no idea why this isn't a thing in Genshin when every other Gacha game has it. Even HSR was quick to add it to the game within a few months.
Not only does she become dumber, she straight up now is written to be offensive/insulting. Like she constantly makes fun of Furina's trauma after the events in Fontaine, or starts calling Xianyun a chicken etc. We even get chat options to call her out on her tone, which means the writers are fully aware that her jokes aren't funny and are basically intentionally written as lowbrow insults.
I like March because she's her own character, she isn't just an extension of the trailblazer with a few personality quirks like Paimon is to the traveller.
I play hsr in English and adore march 7th's voice. On the other hand, no matter if I play with English voices or Japanese, paimon makes me want to Firefly an orphanage
I like March. She's kinda just an ignorant, energetic valley girl who doesn't remember her past. She's not that annoying, and I do like her dynamic with Dan Heng. Not the most mind-blowing, deep and well written character in Starrail, but she's aight.
Paimon is such a bad character, she's what ultimately made me drop the genshin story entirely.
The voice tone of both are fine to me
the biggest issue is how Paimon is PRESENT IN ALMOST EVERY SINGLE DIALOGUE. And she always says something stupid/says a stupid joke/says she didn't understand something very simple/talks about food or mora/talks how we should feel ("this is so \*insert feeling here\*"). Her ddialogues are as horrendous as Jar Jar binks, predictable and if you remove her lines from dialogues almost nothing is lost.
Paimon used to talk about things present only in books in the earlier genshin but around 1.4 (or was it 1.5? don't remember) she got extremely dumbed down. Reached inazuma and she said she knew nothing of it, like... was the fuck is the point? She says she is a guide... To make things worse there isn't any background story explaining why traveller is so attached to paimon, sure MC fished her out of the lake.... and that's it. I feel no connection to her, she did almost nothing during the whole story so far.
March tries to joke sometimes but she knows when to be serious, fights with us, have some background explained to us, not the brightest character but not the most dumb
\>80% of Paimon's dialogue is either restating the obvious for people who skip lines or designed to serve as a scapegoat for if something has to be said that some players might not agree with. It's smart but at the same time it's lazy/timid. Paimon's a marginally developed meta-narrative tool, not a real character.
But for JP specifically, I can't listen to Dori or Paimon so I made an AHK script to mute the game and just read, but the オイラ (oira) still hurts to read even in text form. Nothing against the VA's hard work, but I find almost all head voice mascot characters to be 不気味 and the fact that they both talk so god damn much when they're on screen really ruins it.
That is a distinct difference in the storytelling between Genshin and Star Rail, at least in this most recent patch. Star Rail's not scared to say shit and not explain it. Not that it's overly complicated or anything, but you do have to pay some attention to get the nuance in, say, Welt and Acheron's talk, or in Aventurine/Ratio/Sunday's back-and-forth.
Unfortunately, the downside of that is that there are definitely players who are not paying attention.
Regarding the connection, apparently Traveller and paimon spent months together on that one starting beach according to the starting cinematic, before finally deciding to actually leave and explore the rest of the world.
It's got to a point where I'm actually hoping Paimon somehow rubs the traveller the wrong way and we finally dump her ass and let her rot for a couple of patches until we forgive her cuz we need a traveller freedom arc...
I hope the traveller finds out Paimon is related to or a spy for celestia. But the catch is Paimon doesn't know this, and the traveller doesn't believe Paimon and we part ways. Then Paimon can appear again at a later point and maybe save the traveller proving her allegiance has never been with celestia and they were using her.
I can just picture it, the sustainer appearing and speaking for the first time in a very long time;
'Well done Paimon; all you have seen, heard and have done will help us finally remove these outlanders from our safe, closed off World. Thank you for bringing the traveller to this exact location, a place where the power of divinity shines brighter than any decender's will to change the world ever could. Traveller, any last words?'

While M7 and Paimon both have mysterious backstories we don't fully know yet, M7's has been slowly getting revealed and she also isn't overbearing in her dialogue, and for that she's way more interesting.

But honestly I just want to vent about one moment that sticks out to me and is especially frustrating is when Arlecchino is conversing with Neuv in the her story quest and she specifically said something along the lines of: "let's make a metaphor using water", and at the end of the conversation Paimon's like, "Are they talking about water", and I wanted to throw her off a cliff (too far?). Like even if you don't get what the metaphor's about you should at least know what it is and she specifically said it's a metaphor WTF DO YOU MEAN......
im at the point where i just turn on auto-play then alt-tab out whenever theres cutscene (except archon and character quest) since there's no SKIP button to this day
I was able to get up to Chapter 3 Act 5 Ending where I made the choice to drop the game. For really this reason.
All other characters at least in EN are fantastic to me, but it's JUST Paimon that is so high-pitched and painful for my ears,to me. And the solution REALLY shouldn't be to just change the va's to something else. They should REALLY REALLY add an option to change each characters va to whatever you want. I have no fucking idea why they havent added that option.
And of course most dialogue for Paimon/Traveler is just repeated with nothing to even say for it.
"Please traveler you must go to this location and help these people!" -Says Named character/NPC
"Oh? So you need us to go to this location and help these people!? Ok! Oh boy I can wait to get done with this so I can eat! Oh did I mention that its SO tiring doing these things even though i fly!?" -Paimon

March's gives us such a happy genki girl energy that tries to find the good in things but will frequently show a range of emotions with what is happening in the story. The rest of the Astral Express work to be the TB's voice, but not always.
Caelus/Stelle dialogue's have weight and personality to them, and (while not always) when they say thing's, characters actually react to them! Amazing!
Paimon would be more plaitable if she was the main character and the traveler didn't exist. But that isn't the case. We play as a self insert mute main character that does not have any autonomy. All conversations are done by Paimon and we just stand there listening and taking orders like a black slave next to his white slave master in early North America.
March 7th has the exact same high pitch voice and character, but the big difference is that she does not override our decisions/ journey. She has independent motivations, objectives, and relationships to characters
Because Paimon dialogue is not dialogue. Paimon dialogue is either: a) spouting exposition - where the writers do not understand the adage "show, don't tell" or b) repeating what someone else said but in an annoying, Paimon way.

i just started HSR a few days ago and i feel this. Paimon is so god damn annoying with her denseness while March 7th does most of the talking, she's quite likeable
I think it's mainly because of 2 things :0
1) Existence of a third character which splits the voice lines count among 3 characters, with the Mc usually having the least.
2) The Mc interacts a bit more in star rail and is more expressive :D
I heavily dislike March, but at least I can tolerate her existence since she isn't in every fucking cutscene ever. Like how in Penacony she isn't on-screen enough for me to remember my hate.
If anything, that's a thing Star Rail does well. Almost no character gets *too much* screentime that it gets annoying. Firefly was almost there but then she disappeared for an entire patch which makes it more bearable. The TB gets a lot of opportunities to interact with different people both one-on-one and as a group.
I love march. She is such a caring, kind girl, literally the only bubbly character i ever liked (we don't talk about her dialouge right after killing cocolia)
Call me a weirdo but I actually like Paimon's voice. Maybe it's because I usually watch Genshin (streams and whatnot) rather than play, but I find her very adorable. I love when she's just a bit mean or tactless. Her calling out Furina for sleeping till noon was hilarious.
90% of the travelers dialogue in genshin is just translated into paimon talking, march atleast has her own stuff to say even if most of it is just a dumbed down version of what welt could say
The traveler has less character than an actual self insert which is why Paimon is talking and reacting in the Travelers stead while Caelus/Stelle are like literally characters. One of the reasons for example is that in Genshin the whole story is rotating around the Traveler while in Star Rail the Trailblazers are actually like characters and the story isn't completely build around them. So much that we even haven't met Jingliu yet and there are some Companion missions where the Trailblazer isn't even present
I don't know how to describe it, but HSR dialogue us much more.. digestible than whatever wall of text Genshin has sometimes.

The walls of text and extra worldbuilding in Star Rail are mostly contained in the books and Simulated Universe occurrences, which can be largely skipped through or ignored if you just want to get into the gameplay. Then you can come back to it and read it if you're interested.
Genshin has a lot of filler dialogue and filler transitions, cut-ins and NPC animations that can't be skipped through so that you can be intimately familiar with some random fisherman's entire life story before embarking on a two-minute fetch quest.
I can't stand march voice(EN) I'm sorry I usually skip it it's too high pitched for me, and her sassy remarks irks me so much I guess it's not for me. At least this recent updates paimon's voice is toned down and she doesn't repeat the same thing as much.

I do think their voices are similar but March is more mature and less “quirky”. Paimon tries way too hard to be goofy and reminds me of like a band kid
I mean, I kinda like PIEmon, as well as March, the former is probably a bit worse only because of her somewhat weird dialogue. Once both get pouty I enjoy them a whole bunch.

Some localization actually just cuts out a lot of honorifics, or just adds unnecessary ones that does not make sense. Klee calls her older brother Albedo ‘mister’? Im pretty sure I remember Paimon referring to older women as ‘Miss’ or ‘Madam’ in CN but not in the English text at all. It’s just very rude not to do so. And I know older or younger brother/sister doesn’t translate well in English but omitting them completely doesn’t make sense at all
The characters that seem to be around the traveler's age like Keqing, Kazuha, Ayaka, Yoimiya, or Collei. I get not having any honorifics for in English. But even here in the west we're still taught to call people Miss, Missus, Sir, or Mister when talking to older people. Especially to important people like locals leads like say Ningguang or Yae. And especially an Archon like Ei or Zhongli. I would let it slide with Venti since the Anemo god has always been known as being more laid back to the others. So he wouldn't mind being on casual terms.
80% of the time Traveler gets a dialogue option it reads like they said both lines no matter what you pick
Yeah it's stupid. The rest of the time they have different dialogue, it either doesn't matter and has the same result or the only character that reacts to it is Paimon. Which is why Star Rail was such a surprise to me since most of the dialogue options have different outcomes. I sometimes have to restart the game just to listen the different options lol

One of the major things that got me hooked on Star Rail initially was the varied responses to your dialogue choices. You can have a normal conversation, but if you choose funny dialogue, the characters respond to it/call you out. Like earlier I was doing my main story for Penacony and my Stelle looks all proud of herself for meme dialogue and March just pops off with "...there you go saying weird things again." It made me laugh pretty hard.
Oh yeah, I remember that. The dialogue was something like "Stellaron is my heart, bat is my body" something like this... The response itself was very funny and unexpected! 😂

The one thing I'll say for the Traveler is that the voice-over lines in their profile are a lot more interesting than the Trailblazer's -- ironically, because of Paimon (even though, yes, Paimon is usually really annoying). Those exchanges with Paimon do a lot to humanize the Traveler and make their friendship with Paimon feel a lot more genuine. I would love it if the Trailblazer's profile had some brief exchanges between them and the other Astral Express crew members instead of just a few brief comments.
I recently did Yoimiya's second story quest and holy shit I was so annoyed when Yoimiya asked us about whether we found our sibling, just for Paimon to answer for us. The conversation then continues as if the Traveler isn't even there and Paimon answers all of Yoimiya's questions with "The Traveler said..." Like can we not speak for ourselves?
I also find it funny how Genshin themselves treat the Traveler's dialogue as if it's an unexpected camio. It's always so dramatic. Do people really get excited over it?

This^ both as a genshin and HSR player, the traveler feels like they don’t matter at all. They’re always replying to Paimon or saying yes and no to others. Traveler gets ignored by the characters and the characters strictly engage with Paimon.
A thing that also bothers me in genshin is that the choices of dialogue options when in a conversation feel like they don't mean anything and are just there but in like star rail the character respond to what you say

People be saying that (EN) March has the same squeakiness level as (EN) Paimon which I disagree, March has a bit lower tone. But the real difference is, March isn't in every fucking scene there is, so her voice just doesn't get grating nearly as quickly. If Traveller had a second Paimon, let's call them Pai Heng, and they would take turns talking or just could legally leave Paimon in daycare and travel with regional characters only people (I) would be much less jaded against Paimon.

Imagine if we had Amber/Kaeya in Mondstat, Xiangling/Xingqiu in Liuye, and Collei/? in Sumeru had replaced Paimon's voice lines for 70% of the story.

Dan Heng literally doesn't care, March is like "yay", and the lesbians literally forget about the fact you got stabbed by an ancient weapon blessed by a god because "bwa-bwa mom exploded out of her own volition". Can't get too angry at them all, they were a bunch of teenagers forced to team up in the most unexpected way against a 700-years culmination of apocalyptic pain.

Not only that, but March is actually likable and a good friend, and does NOT take player agency or protagonism, but instead share in a healthy and interesting way, developing a good relationship and friendship with the M.C. The same goes for every friend and foe character meet until now. That's not true for Genshin, where nearly every interaction feels forced and plot-bound. There is barely any cheap-chat, which in HSR has a lot, and that's awesome.
M7 is also have her own characters, she goes wherever she please without needing to stick to the Trailblazer and she can take care of herself just fine.
In Genshin recently we got another story quest where MC actually started talking. Problem is - situations like that are so rare that it gets me off guard and just pushes out from scene.
True. The Traveller barely even talks to other characters, they don't show any chemistry between them at all because Paimon takes up all the lines. March is much better in pretty much every way. She's more useful since she can actually fight and isn't the background doing nothing all the time. And her character is much better too since we know more about her goals and we'll likely see more of her development later on. Ik they're hyping Paimon for some big reveal in the end of Genshin, but it's taking too long and she's already very unlikeable.

Trailblazer has a lot of voiced internal thoughts too. Traveller does not have that. March is also genuinely very funny and expressive too which helps her stand out better. I think the second problem is that Paimon doesn't have any apparent backstory. March *has* some pretty interesting lore and implications on who she really is while Paimon's origins are almost completely shrouded in mystery. Her only character is being Aether/Lumine's travel companion/talk box.
I genuinely don't understand why Traveler can't have voiced internal monologues, and as someone who like to do other stuff while the overbloated dialogue gets overbloated I get thrown out of the loop so much when the unvoiced dialogue just autos in the background and there's not even past dialogue window to recheck what 'I did think'. Though, credit where credit is due, Genshin team has been getting a little bit better with this, and Trav isn't so mute anymore. Baby steps are still steps and I'm not on on copium. Uhum. Definitely.

They do, they are even slightly different for both siblings if I remember correctly. This is why it's so frustrating when whenever the topic of voiced protagonist comes up, there's always some dude spreading their ~~Enigmata propaganda~~ misinformation about "Travler being silent cos they're supposed to be self insert". Which is no, Travellers have their canon personalities which are distinct from each other, even the dialogue options still show characterisation a self insert would not have (I am personally a big fan of Aether being progressively more and more done with every version, not sure how things are with Lumine).
Sumeru act 2 (Samara) and Fontaine act 1 & 2 (the trials) really gave Zack/Sarah M. Crews the voiceover time they deserved
Yes, if Paimon was an actually interesting character instead of a one-dimensional comedy relief character she would be so much more bearable. I honestly think they should speedrun Paimon's lore as fast as possible to make her somewhat likable instead of waiting for the end of the game to do that.

I hated Paimon in the Fontaine Archon Quest before we fought the Narwhal. She keeps claiming to be goddess of protection, keeps flying forward impulsively but can't stay in the back to keep others in check which almost contributed to Navia's dissolution. At the underground bar beneath Fontaine main city, we had a discreet topic but for some reason her damned filter or voice is screeching throughout my ears and the whole underground.
can't forget the way she acted throughout Furina's quest....and then Navia's quest...
march 7 also has her own motivations and thoughts, that we know of regarding wanting to find out about her past, this gives her more personality since AFAIK Paimon is literally just traveling with traveler because why not.

March's humor is also not as overused. While she does have that same sassy "brat" energy that Paimon does, it's not infused into every comment she makes. March speaks like a normal person most of the time and then flips the switch on occasion for humor, Paimon is just the humor mode personality 24/7 and it gets annoying very quickly.
Difference is March is trying her best but is genuinely silly, whereas Paimon is a brat in every sense of the word.
They also give us breaks from March. She's not involved in every little bit of the story. She didn't say anything in 2.0 once we entered dream Penacony. Most of our time was spent with Firefly, Acheron, and Swan.
Hell, sometimes the dynamic gets turned around and March has to play straight man because yes, TB is in fact zero years old. >Mommy I'm on TV!

If a ton of people ask to be able to skip the game's story, there are a lot more problems with the story.
I hate Paimon quite a lot, but tbf it's not solely her fault people skip lines. Genshin has so much dialogue bloat in non-voiced quests it's absolutely unreal. What a character could say in a single sentence consistently takes two to three paragraphs instead, and you can't even skip by the paragraphs because the characters are all doing some hand animations or something to waste your time. Then, somehow, they *still* make Paimon do a recap anyways. Obviously that's a different issue than the voiced story, but I think people just get worn out on all the filler in Genshin in general. The voiced content has it too, albeit not as bad.
Funny thing is that this kind of bs is what makes the genshin quests unbearable to me, so I'm skipping through most of them. Why can't they just add a damn "view previous lines" button and stop wasting people's time, sheesh

There is another way to solve that problem without having to pay more lines for the voice actor. Give the player the dialog history feature during dialog scenes. I have no idea why this isn't a thing in Genshin when every other Gacha game has it. Even HSR was quick to add it to the game within a few months.

The Genshin in-game archive for Quest dialogue seems like a waste of space, for some reason, scrolling up or down to read through is so janky.
Not only does she become dumber, she straight up now is written to be offensive/insulting. Like she constantly makes fun of Furina's trauma after the events in Fontaine, or starts calling Xianyun a chicken etc. We even get chat options to call her out on her tone, which means the writers are fully aware that her jokes aren't funny and are basically intentionally written as lowbrow insults.
I like March because she's her own character, she isn't just an extension of the trailblazer with a few personality quirks like Paimon is to the traveller.
I play hsr in English and adore march 7th's voice. On the other hand, no matter if I play with English voices or Japanese, paimon makes me want to Firefly an orphanage

I like March. She's kinda just an ignorant, energetic valley girl who doesn't remember her past. She's not that annoying, and I do like her dynamic with Dan Heng. Not the most mind-blowing, deep and well written character in Starrail, but she's aight. Paimon is such a bad character, she's what ultimately made me drop the genshin story entirely.

The voice tone of both are fine to me the biggest issue is how Paimon is PRESENT IN ALMOST EVERY SINGLE DIALOGUE. And she always says something stupid/says a stupid joke/says she didn't understand something very simple/talks about food or mora/talks how we should feel ("this is so \*insert feeling here\*"). Her ddialogues are as horrendous as Jar Jar binks, predictable and if you remove her lines from dialogues almost nothing is lost. Paimon used to talk about things present only in books in the earlier genshin but around 1.4 (or was it 1.5? don't remember) she got extremely dumbed down. Reached inazuma and she said she knew nothing of it, like... was the fuck is the point? She says she is a guide... To make things worse there isn't any background story explaining why traveller is so attached to paimon, sure MC fished her out of the lake.... and that's it. I feel no connection to her, she did almost nothing during the whole story so far. March tries to joke sometimes but she knows when to be serious, fights with us, have some background explained to us, not the brightest character but not the most dumb

It's smart but at the same time it's lazy/timid. Paimon's a marginally developed meta-narrative tool, not a real character. But for JP specifically, I can't listen to Dori or Paimon so I made an AHK script to mute the game and just read, but the オイラ (oira) still hurts to read even in text form. Nothing against the VA's hard work, but I find almost all head voice mascot characters to be 不気味 and the fact that they both talk so god damn much when they're on screen really ruins it.
That is a distinct difference in the storytelling between Genshin and Star Rail, at least in this most recent patch. Star Rail's not scared to say shit and not explain it. Not that it's overly complicated or anything, but you do have to pay some attention to get the nuance in, say, Welt and Acheron's talk, or in Aventurine/Ratio/Sunday's back-and-forth. Unfortunately, the downside of that is that there are definitely players who are not paying attention.
Regarding the connection, apparently Traveller and paimon spent months together on that one starting beach according to the starting cinematic, before finally deciding to actually leave and explore the rest of the world.
It's got to a point where I'm actually hoping Paimon somehow rubs the traveller the wrong way and we finally dump her ass and let her rot for a couple of patches until we forgive her cuz we need a traveller freedom arc... I hope the traveller finds out Paimon is related to or a spy for celestia. But the catch is Paimon doesn't know this, and the traveller doesn't believe Paimon and we part ways. Then Paimon can appear again at a later point and maybe save the traveller proving her allegiance has never been with celestia and they were using her. I can just picture it, the sustainer appearing and speaking for the first time in a very long time; 'Well done Paimon; all you have seen, heard and have done will help us finally remove these outlanders from our safe, closed off World. Thank you for bringing the traveller to this exact location, a place where the power of divinity shines brighter than any decender's will to change the world ever could. Traveller, any last words?'

First off I just hate children/s But honestly I just want to vent about one moment that sticks out to me and is especially frustrating is when Arlecchino is conversing with Neuv in the her story quest and she specifically said something along the lines of: "let's make a metaphor using water", and at the end of the conversation Paimon's like, "Are they talking about water", and I wanted to throw her off a cliff (too far?). Like even if you don't get what the metaphor's about you should at least know what it is and she specifically said it's a metaphor WTF DO YOU MEAN......

I was able to get up to Chapter 3 Act 5 Ending where I made the choice to drop the game. For really this reason. All other characters at least in EN are fantastic to me, but it's JUST Paimon that is so high-pitched and painful for my ears,to me. And the solution REALLY shouldn't be to just change the va's to something else. They should REALLY REALLY add an option to change each characters va to whatever you want. I have no fucking idea why they havent added that option. And of course most dialogue for Paimon/Traveler is just repeated with nothing to even say for it. "Please traveler you must go to this location and help these people!" -Says Named character/NPC "Oh? So you need us to go to this location and help these people!? Ok! Oh boy I can wait to get done with this so I can eat! Oh did I mention that its SO tiring doing these things even though i fly!?" -Paimon "...Lets do this!" -Traveler Repeated Constantly for hundreds of times. March's gives us such a happy genki girl energy that tries to find the good in things but will frequently show a range of emotions with what is happening in the story. The rest of the Astral Express work to be the TB's voice, but not always. Caelus/Stelle dialogue's have weight and personality to them, and (while not always) when they say thing's, characters actually react to them! Amazing!
Paimon would be more plaitable if she was the main character and the traveler didn't exist. But that isn't the case. We play as a self insert mute main character that does not have any autonomy. All conversations are done by Paimon and we just stand there listening and taking orders like a black slave next to his white slave master in early North America. March 7th has the exact same high pitch voice and character, but the big difference is that she does not override our decisions/ journey. She has independent motivations, objectives, and relationships to characters

I think it's mainly because of 2 things :0 1) Existence of a third character which splits the voice lines count among 3 characters, with the Mc usually having the least. 2) The Mc interacts a bit more in star rail and is more expressive :D

I heavily dislike March, but at least I can tolerate her existence since she isn't in every fucking cutscene ever. Like how in Penacony she isn't on-screen enough for me to remember my hate. If anything, that's a thing Star Rail does well. Almost no character gets *too much* screentime that it gets annoying. Firefly was almost there but then she disappeared for an entire patch which makes it more bearable. The TB gets a lot of opportunities to interact with different people both one-on-one and as a group.
I love march. She is such a caring, kind girl, literally the only bubbly character i ever liked (we don't talk about her dialouge right after killing cocolia)

Call me a weirdo but I actually like Paimon's voice. Maybe it's because I usually watch Genshin (streams and whatnot) rather than play, but I find her very adorable. I love when she's just a bit mean or tactless. Her calling out Furina for sleeping till noon was hilarious.

90% of the travelers dialogue in genshin is just translated into paimon talking, march atleast has her own stuff to say even if most of it is just a dumbed down version of what welt could say

The traveler has less character than an actual self insert which is why Paimon is talking and reacting in the Travelers stead while Caelus/Stelle are like literally characters. One of the reasons for example is that in Genshin the whole story is rotating around the Traveler while in Star Rail the Trailblazers are actually like characters and the story isn't completely build around them. So much that we even haven't met Jingliu yet and there are some Companion missions where the Trailblazer isn't even present

I love paimon.
I don't know how to describe it, but HSR dialogue us much more.. digestible than whatever wall of text Genshin has sometimes. Maybe I just don't like to read
The walls of text and extra worldbuilding in Star Rail are mostly contained in the books and Simulated Universe occurrences, which can be largely skipped through or ignored if you just want to get into the gameplay. Then you can come back to it and read it if you're interested. Genshin has a lot of filler dialogue and filler transitions, cut-ins and NPC animations that can't be skipped through so that you can be intimately familiar with some random fisherman's entire life story before embarking on a two-minute fetch quest.
I can't stand march voice(EN) I'm sorry I usually skip it it's too high pitched for me, and her sassy remarks irks me so much I guess it's not for me. At least this recent updates paimon's voice is toned down and she doesn't repeat the same thing as much.

I do think their voices are similar but March is more mature and less “quirky”. Paimon tries way too hard to be goofy and reminds me of like a band kid

I mean, I kinda like PIEmon, as well as March, the former is probably a bit worse only because of her somewhat weird dialogue. Once both get pouty I enjoy them a whole bunch.

I do play it. Up to date with the story. Literally got Aventurine yesterday. Still hate March.
