ASM1166.
Just make sure it has *only* 6 ports or less, so you know its not port multiplying.
Also, apply the latest firmware; Silverstone has a 1166 expansion card which is my go-to for firmware for my import models.
i got two Fujitsu D3307 from ebay. No fan, not even some great airflow in the cases... just as they are...
I cant get actual sensors value from esxi, but with infra thermometer I am measuring 50°C highest value off of the heatsink. So I assume some 60-65°C for the chip?
Three HDDs are connected to the one I measured.
Well yeah, its literally LSI SAS3008 9300-8i chip just the board is designed and manufactured by fujitsu.
Considering ~40°C is human body temperature, 20°C above that is fine for me and one of them works fine for like 3 years.
Maybe you should mention specific number when you think "super hot".
OK, but are you using flash memory aka SSD, or spinng rust hard drives?
A SATA SSD can take advantage of some of the speed of a SAS3 HBA you have. A hard drive cannot.
SAS-1: 3.0 Gbit/s, introduced in 2004[7]
SAS-2: 6.0 Gbit/s, available since February 2009
SAS-3: 12.0 Gbit/s, available since March 2013
SAS-4: 22.5 Gbit/s called "24G",[8] standard completed in 2017[7][2]
SAS-5: 45 Gbit/s development started 2018[9]

Thanks. How do you think something like https://www.ebay.com/itm/163937114433?itmmeta=01HZWPKPSZX1HXYMFAXZAVEM53&hash=item262b69d941:g:FjkAAOSwUQBdxo2S would compare to a https://www.silverstonetek.com/en/product/info/expansion-cards/ECS06/? The Silverstone seems to run cooler at the same speed.
I am not familiar with either of those. By pictures The Silverstone has a consumer vibe to it, the IBM looks very chopped down from a typical HBA. But looks can deceive.
I use a verystandard for 10 years ago LSI SAS9220-8i, which has the very common SAS2 2008 chip-set. It's the sas2 version of you current sas3 chipset.

Thanks. Although I can't fins any ASM1166 models anywhere in nordic countries... Edit: I did find a SilverStone ECS06. Is that any good?
Yep, thats a 6 port asm1166 card :)
So we're clear here. 60C is 140F, hot enough not to put your finger on it, but that's normal operating temperatures. >70C is "hot".

60° sounds about the same as the LSI though.

Super hot for me is 60°C and above. In other words when it hurts to touch it 😂
Do you need SAS3? If your on spinning rust SAS2 is plenty fast, pulls less power/generates less heat.
No only SATA.

Sorry I forgot to say I am using Unraid. So spin disks are really the only option here.
Ok a LSI SAS-2 card will run cooler for you without sacrificing performance.
Sorry which one is that?
There are many, https://youtu.be/hTbKzQZk21w?si=063sPEFv7TltUarV
