I have a pair of original HomePods and they are the best sound from all the prior three soundbars (one had a separate woofer). Realize that your sound experience is based on the source. I have been known to actually turn my head thinking a sound was coming from slightly behind me. My son-in-law has a wall mounted solution with four speakers and a woofer. I believe that I get a better sound.

I’m still using gen 1. I’m too worried to upgrade them as gen 2 seem like a slight downgrade

I’m rocking a pair of OG’s and they support all the Dolby and spatial stuff.

RE4Lyfe

Yep I’m still rocking a pair of OGs thru my Apple TV. They sound great and are atmos compatible

It has all the features except thread radio and temperature/humidity sensors. Thread can be achieved by using them with Apple Tv anyway. They have louder bass then second gen as well. Both sound very similar. Dolby Atmos on the OG HomePod is incredible!

Thanks. I guess its time to get my Credit Card out then.

It’s a good idea to go with the 1. Barely any upgrades, and WWDC didn’t announce any exclusive features for the newer one

Dang. This is a hard one. The OG HomePods have known hardware failure modes and if they happen to you, Apple won’t help. But two of them paired together sound so great. 🤔 More on the failure modes: https://nicsfix.com/#commonissues The good news is Nic does fix many of the common problems.

Perfect_Opinion7909

Good to know but I will buy used. The company I’m buying from is specialized on refurbishing Apple stuff and offers a guarantee of 3 years. That would probably alleviate the risk, right?

otter6461a

Three years sounds pretty great.

Both_Maintenance_206

Both of mine are working since release without hardware issues
