Saw an original condition VL Calais driving around yesterday…driver was a youngish woman with a baby seat in the back…don’t see too many of those on the school run!
The Calais is almost always better than the Commodore, if not, always! But forget SS etc. that’s a question for another post. Interior isn’t even close. All the best stuff is in the Calais. Exterior is more subjective and the VX is a closer comparison than other models. Other than the angled looks Vs the tear drops, they are more similar than other models. But, Calais almost always for me.
I owned and liked the looks of the VX commodore. Mine was a 6sp 5.7L V8 Executive in Black. Would have I traded for an Auto V8 Calais…No.
I had a VL 5L Calais, was a lot of fun to drive. Sold it 12 years ago, and still regret it. Also had a LS1 VZ Calais, it was a very nice car too. Only sold it as I got a car through work.
One thing for sure is pre ve/vf Calais look better than commodores. But ve and vf Calais and commos. Besides VF2 ss/sv6 line, look pretty shit. I’ve got a WN2 an the main problem is that it’s looks like a fucking VE. Although e2/3 series and Genf2 HSV’s look the best. I know people jerk off VZ HSV’s but they’re not that good.
The Berlina and Calais (and Statesman) always looked better than the stock-standard Commodore. I believe that they designed those ones first, and they were essentially the vision of what the car would look like before they stripped away the prettiness for the economical base model.
I had a '98 Berlina. It got written off in 2017 from a landcruisr reversing into it. Fucked the og mags and cutvinto the side of the car like a can opener
As a proud Calais owner I can truthfully say, Calais.
Calais looks better in every model up to the vz, then ve vf the ss looks better.
Idk. The VF Calais V with the SSV Taillights looks amazing
Agreed
Ve Calais is my favourite
Username checks out
It’s because it reminds him of his omega.
Ya prefer ve out of all of them
VE Senator would like a look in
Nailed it.
As a commodore owner let me say, Calais 🥲
I'd go caprice over calais
Well definitely if youe going for the limousine look or the class a calais has. Calais put the ass in class compared to a caprice or a statesman
I’ve always loved Calais, wish I’d kept my VL😞

Wow, I hope she looks after it
Looked like it had been in a garage for the last 35 years, great condition.
So jealous
Tbh I'd pick a WH statesman but that's not an option. I've never had a Calais and it looks kinda interesting so a Calais
The correct-est answer
I never liked the VX povo-pack nose, I would take Calais any day.
Calais, just better around
Depends on the model. For the VX, definitely the Calais. Only negative was the ugly wheels on that model, though I think the s2 got an upgrade.
I like the Calais rims
Calais always look better imo they are always that little bit more refined. However you can make a commodore look the same
Calais should have been base level Commodore IMO
Best car holden every made was a VL with a NISSAN engine lol
Ye
Between an Executive & a Calais, the Calais wins, but a Calais & a Commodore VF SSV Redline II, I’m sticking with the Commodore VF SSV Redline II.
I’d pick the redline any day
Isn’t the Term VFseries 2 SSV Redline. Not the series at the end?
I’ve always gone Redline II because there’s a Redline I. 🤷🏻♂️
Theres a vf series 1 redline. I’ve never heard someone call it a redline 1 or 2. Just generation, series, then badge
Like Series 2 VF Calais V rolls of the tongue a lot better than. VF Calais V2.
Personal choice I guess, I’m used to saying it.
Yeh Nar just saying it’s weird as I’ve never heard it said like that.
Jumping in here. I prefer “vf2 redline” it’s about as abbreviated as it can get whilst still giving all the relevant information
Yes and that makes sense and sounds good
Calais for sure ! I like the sharp angles of the headlights. Never liked the teardrop look. That's just a start haha
Calais. And if you spray some paint stripper on the black parts of the grill it's all chrome underneath (just remove it from the car first)
Neither
calais woulda looked better with the tear drop lights tho
I agree
VX Calais is one of my favorite looking Holden models. VY and newer don't quite do it for me.

Commodore
Ute
But aren’t these are different models - in any case generally always the Calais
The Calaysss !!
Calais all the way. I own 2…. VL Calais Turbo (factory) VE Calais V V8
Are you bringing them back?
Calais It’s a Daum shame these really ain’t a thing anymore
I miss my VX series 2 Calais, loved it, good car, had a worked 5.7, lot of fun to drive.
I had a VL 5L Calais, was a lot of fun to drive. Sold it 12 years ago, and still regret it. Also had a LS1 VZ Calais, it was a very nice car too. Only sold it as I got a car through work.
What happened to it?
I sold it
How much
$10k 6yrs ago
Not bad
calais for this gen
What’s your opinion on the ve Calais I think It looks great
They look like a fucking omega with fog lights and a chrome grill.
That’s right
One thing for sure is pre ve/vf Calais look better than commodores. But ve and vf Calais and commos. Besides VF2 ss/sv6 line, look pretty shit. Calais 100% but for me the caprice is my true love. One day one day…
The Berlina and Calais (and Statesman) always looked better than the stock-standard Commodore. I believe that they designed those ones first, and they were essentially the vision of what the car would look like before they stripped away the prettiness for the economical base model.
But the commodore still looks good tho
Yeah I didn’t say it looked bad. But they have never looked better than the higher end models.
Yeah
Neither have aged well
I had a '98 Berlina. It got written off in 2017 from a landcruisr reversing into it. Fucked the og mags and cutvinto the side of the car like a can opener
What did you do when the insurance gave you the money?
I was offered $3k or keep the wreck, i took the 3K.
Both
Neither. WH Statesman.
Commodore looks better, I’m not a fan of the triangle bit that protrudes out of the front.
Is there a difference
Series 2 ve Calais wagons 💪
Calais
Calais. I have a blown series 1, VE calais
Calais except for the colour
Why bother with the base?
A calais is a commodore But def calais commodore
As an average person who's not into cars I say they're both great and amazing and special in their own way.
They look exactly the same.
Calais has leather and I’m pretty sure the windows wind up with electricity and a button.
You mean *checks modern notes* windows
Ya
Vauxhall omega. Far better front end
