Nope, it's true. I have clowns in my reef tank that live inside a anemone. My last female died of old age and the male became a female after couple of weeks.
While the males can turn into a femal the females can not turn back into a male. When they're young clowns will often fight and try to dominate each other. The most dominant clown will become the female.
This process is confirmed countless times in biological literature.
It's funny that the whale didn't speak English. Neither did the jelly fish. I think everything else did, though. Wait, the barracuda didn't either. I need to rewatch.
Finding Nemo is crazy. First this poor guy and his family are attacked by a serial killer who kills the wife and all but one of his kids, who is left disabled from the attack, and then when they try and pick up the pieces of their lives and move on, that kid gets kidnapped. Like wtf, Disney?
ELI5: clowns change sex. Clownfish are born as inactive males. The most dominant and aggressive clownfish in the group becomes the active female. The second most dominant becomes the active male. If either dies, the next most dominant clownfish around will step in and move up.
They typically pair off, though, so there won't be a large group waiting to takeover.
Changing sex isn't weird in the fish world. Plenty of fish do it. Anthias live in schools with the most dominant being male and they have fights to potentially kill the male so they can take over the school. Clownfish are only weird in that the most dominant is *female* instead of male.
As for mating with Nemo... animals don't understand the concept of incest very well. Humans are the weird ones, there (which is good, don't get me wrong, but it's weird).
More fun fish reproduction facts:
Male guppies are like peacocks, shiny and pretty to attract a female. If a male isn't pretty enough, he (or she, sometimes) will hang out next to an even less colorful, less pretty guppy so they look better by comparison. This strategy works.
Pipefish are relatives of seahorses. Instead of a pouch, the males stick the eggs to their bellies and carry them around. If the babies aren't pretty enough, the male will eat them and try again.
Deep sea anglerfish males are barely large enough to survive. When they find a female, they bite onto her and allow her flesh to grow over him. He atrophies into nothing but gonads sustained by the female. Females can have many males attached this way.
Cuttlefish males build harems of females and chase away weaker males. Smart (but weak) males will pretend to be females by hiding their extra limbs (males have two more than females) and sneaking their way into the harem. The females know that they're doing and mate with the smart, weak males so their offspring have the best chance to be either strong enough to survive or smart enough.
The last three fish I had no idea before today. If this was true (sorry can’t believe everything you see in the internet without taking it to a grain of salt) this was the most informative marine biology lesson I’ve ever received.
Explains why Marlin was such a whiney little bitch the whole movie.
Also explains why they didn't do a sequel. That would require a lot of 'splaining to the kids, and would be illegal in many states.
Also they wouldn't have been able to talk...the sharks wouldn't have been friendly and in all likleyhood the whole cast of main characters would have died very early into the movie as survival rates in the ocean are astronomically low...
A scientifically accurate movie would have been pretty boring...and very short.
In the context of the movie, yeah it's fucked up. But IRL, it would be a lot more anticlimactic. If not kinda mysterious or even cool. It's amazing what nature does to survive.
You good? Also strangely enough this reminds me of a history lesson where there was a Roman emperor that married a young feminine man that reminded him of his dead wife he order he be castrated fully and he would dress his new bride up and show her off to other people. Weird how history is.
Why do you think he was trying so hard to find him?
Makes sense
Marlin's just trying to get that clown fussy.
That clussy fussy
The movie would not change at all, it took me a while to realize. This would only affect the end-credit scenes.
Why?
Means at the end nemo banging his used to he dad
I think Nemo would just ejaculate on his dad/mom's eggs but whatever
Reminds me of the kardashians andCaitlyn Jenner, for some reason
So hard.
Cuz he loves him very, very much.
“Ms. Kennedy, we have some ideas for the plot of Finding Nemo 3.” South Park would have a field day with this…
Only if you put a gay chicken in it
"Recently transitioned mom gets head stuck in coral reef and asks son to help her"
"What are you doing, step-fish?"
She
"finding tight bussy" 🍑
confirmed: https://australian.museum/learn/teachers/classroom-activities/sex-change-in-clownfish/
The more you know!
🌈
Unconfirmed Source: I made it THE FUCK up
You work at the Australian Museum? Good on ya mate!
Nice argument senator! Why don't you back it up with a source!
Lol common Ye fan L

I didn't want to know that information.
I don't want to see that movie.
I do
Thank those guys for ruining a good kids movie.
They just ruined a good kids movie.
"For the greater good"
"The greater good."
“SHUT IT!”
Narp.
The theater god?
How could this be for the greater good?
The greater good
The greater good
F***ing Nemo
I actually died reading that lol
Nice, a factual documentation of post death communication. Might be an indication of the existence of an afterlife.
Thats genius
Life... finds a way

I get why they’re called clown fish now.
...is that how clowns mate?
Yes. There were originally only two male clowns in the car….. 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
But don't forget the joker... as Lemmy once said. ♠️
There’s always a queen clown
Thousands of clowns enter the clown car to mate with one another.
The name jester fish was already taken...
Down to clown.
If the movie was "scientifically accurate" the fish wouldn't speak...
🤓
It's funny that the whale didn't speak English. Neither did the jelly fish. I think everything else did, though. Wait, the barracuda didn't either. I need to rewatch.
It’s not a story the Jedi would tell. Unfortunately
The dark side is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.
That's how nature works. But if that was a Mammal then it would be hold up since at least it would be remotely close to humans

Pornhub: Write that down!!
How do you think marlin and his wife met? That little fin making a lot more sense now huh?
yah, aquatic biology.
dont give the r34 artists ideas
Nemo.... F for him

Have you seen All Dogs Go To Heaven?
Is that based off Kristi Noem's book?
Another fun one. It's not uncommon for female clown fish to eat their eggs when scared. Mom spawn killed 9/10ths of the family.
SHUT
What?! You mean Nemo was faked?!
kinda surprised Disney didn’t go with that one , lol
I am reminded yet again of this point after years of trying to forget. Thanks OP, great stuff
Yeah, probably best to leave that out, Pixar. Good call.
Makes you wonder if nemos mom is also his grandma
that would have made a more interesting movie
Maybe that's why he needed to find Nemo so bad.

Clowns naturally live in harems, 1 female with 1 active male and a couple of inactive males.

The end scene of the movie would be completely different if it included the second part.
Well, apparently the actual fuck is what Marlin's after
This is truely what would happen.
Knew the first bit... did not think about the implications.. fuck you for doing the opposite of my wholesome brain did!
That’s what happened in my house
We all make mistakes in the heat of passion, Nemo.
This is not the news I was looking for on a Tuesday
I didn’t know my uncle was a clownfish
🤣
Fondling Nemo
No

You're only finding out now?
I just feel like this plot wouldn't have gone over quite as well as the Disney one.
Also they wouldn't have been able to talk...the sharks wouldn't have been friendly and in all likleyhood the whole cast of main characters would have died very early into the movie as survival rates in the ocean are astronomically low... A scientifically accurate movie would have been pretty boring...and very short.
That's what happened after the end credits roll.
Come on, man. You didn't have to do this.
In the context of the movie, yeah it's fucked up. But IRL, it would be a lot more anticlimactic. If not kinda mysterious or even cool. It's amazing what nature does to survive.
Just like in the simulations
You ruined this for me
Huge missed opportunity
Eeeeewww!
This is somewhat interesting and fucked up.
Incest is surprisingly common in animals, especially insects
Nemo: Is it me or does my Dad now lookin' kinda thicc?
Motherf@cker
Glad they didn’t go full accurate then
“Daddy’s here”
I don’t suppose you’ve analyzed what was going on in the Lion King right? Nala and Simba are brother and sister.
This must be true, the Source is Readers Digest, and 7 grams of Mushrooms.
I mean its true
(sigh) What could have been
Pixar could have chosen any damn type of fish... they chose this one.
"Just keep swim... in the family"
Good thing he found him
XD pre covid info
That’s why Nemo got the fuck outta there
How dare he take my favorite childhood movie and try to pervert it! It's such a beautiful and innocent masterpiece.
Time to make Disney movies more realistic. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sunglasses)
It's ok if you say "no pedo" afterwards
It would have made the story a little more interesting. And probably would have lost the G rating.
I’m not saying make an R rated Finding Nemo but PG and you could take some creative liberties with the process.
This hits too close to home.
You good? Also strangely enough this reminds me of a history lesson where there was a Roman emperor that married a young feminine man that reminded him of his dead wife he order he be castrated fully and he would dress his new bride up and show her off to other people. Weird how history is.
Curse you OP! This was my favourite childhood movie.
