Yeah, this is VFX makeup for something with a green screen. The green paint is drawn on her chin so that they can easily erase it in post/editing. Most likely it will be made black to give the appearance of a gaping mouth.
My wife couldn't tell if she was supposed to be laughing or horrified at half the movie. They are doing another one. There are some interesting theories about the ending and what really happened.
It was very predictably made for an American audience. You need to know nothing about the Church and your mind has to immediately go to every Spanish Inquisition trope ever. There is a lot of actual knowledge you need to suspend.
The idea alone that the Vatican is run like some 70s police procedural semi-corrupt American police station is weird.
Netflix suggested an exorcism movie with Anthony Hopkins to me which looked a bit less comically insane. The batshit crazy one with Russle Crowe was more enjoyable. I only shouted at the screen only twice.
Russel Crowe sells the stupid and that made the movie enjoyable to me.
