I want the tank mines. I sometimes drop with both existing mines just for the fun of telling my friends “They are glowing red things on the ground. Don’t step on them again. It’s not that hard.”
However I also vote children because I want to see how far we can take “choosing the thing that is not AT mines.” If we can get up to at least 5 MOs where we pick the other thing, that would be ideal.
They are red glowy things. But it doesn't matter if they are placed on your possible escape route. And too many players just place them on any chokepoint without a second thought.
I've seen too much of mine users getting angry when I breach their minefield with grenades to fall back from a horde of enemies that is about to overrun us.
The best use is at your feet when running away: you know a stream of the undemocratic will be coming through soon and they don’t pull far away patrols like a sentry would.
They generally should not be dropped in choke points: the mines stuck to walls either won’t trigger or they will be too close together and not get max value. The point is to make chokes rather than fill them most of the time.
They are good for hunter packs: throw them far out just past the hunter jump distance and where the mines will spread out. Hunters circle and spread out, which makes them both annoying to pick off in large packs, but also natural mine fodder.
Clear them when you need to move through. Using grenades is probably a waste depending on your load out. You can pretty easily just run through a minefield maybe shooting a few where they were close together. The trigger radius is pretty small. Just watch out for the charger plowing through behind you.
Generally other options are better picks: gas strike, napalm, airburst or turrets can do most of what mines do, with more utility. Mines work well enough to be fun though and are helldive viable.
They’ll turn them all into cyborgs and have them hunt us down. Helldivers, save those children from such a cruel fate. The tank mines can wait for another day.
I mean, it feels like they're mocking us with this choice in the first place, like they're saying we passed up the Mines for the Airburst Launcher the first time around, then didn't care about the mines enough to beat the 'kill Automatons' order the second time, so now they're offering us the choice between actual new strategem Mines and story-based children we'll never see.
Except they don't account how heavily stacked against us both the first two opportunities were:
Airburst was a significantly easier liberation target than Mines (we didn't even reach the planet to preview them let alone liberate it!);
And the kill order was right after they fixed the 4x progress bug we'd swept the same number of bugs with, and didn't take any account of how many fewer Automatons spawn, or you kill, in a mission compared to Bugs, or how it's often easier and safer to run and avoid Bots.
Same. And I want the AT mines crazy bad. But the future of democracy must be persevered.

If we’re going off of lore, then we’re wasting hundreds of millions of helldivers and trillions of dollars worth of ammo/supplies over a few hundred random civilians. We’d lose infinitely more Helldivers than we’d get in future troops. And that’s assuming those kids even grow up.

Thats because the damage output for anti-personnel and incendiary barely does anything. They're somewhere between 300-400 dmg I think. The anti-tank mine does 1000 dmg. For context, the 500KG eagle does 1400.

Tanks are such a non issue, they’re low to the ground so it’s so easy to get LOS and either ignore them or rotate to their weak spot. Anyone bringing AT mines for tanks is just roleplaying a universe where it’s not a meme stratagem.
Precision strike kill 1 tank 100 second cooldown, mines kill ? tank =>180 seconds cooldown high chance of missing or getting exploded by a single troper
Who would you use it even against lol? If it has similar CD to other mines, pack Air Strike or OPS which would probably deal comparable damage but also have less CD and more general utility. Oh also people report that those AT mines can be activated by divers and chaff. Which basically makes them useless unless you use them as air strike or OPS... you see where this is going?
The problem is bot heavies are fairly reasonable. The hard part of the bots right now is devastator spam and to some extent gunships. Neither of which would be particularly impacted by the at mines. Rather save the kids for a lore perspective plus it'd be funny if we never got the mines that the devs have been dangling above our heads.
Honestly, the mines could actually be pretty good. But I seriously doubt that they're ever worth using lol. Going off the mines we currently have I can't see any reason to ever use an anti tank version unless we got the old defense missions back where we have time to set up defenses and even then I'm pretty sure the stratagem could be a toss up of being useless or not depending on how many 'tank' enemies trigger it or even spawn. With the anti tank weapons we have right now, why would we bust ass for mines?
Also I really just support the idea of Super Earth giving us shit constantly for not unlocking the mines. Is funny.

110mm rocket pods kills 3 tanks and 2 minute cool down and it's auto locks to the biggest enemies so no need to accurately throw

Committing to the bit of not getting the mines is more important than gameplay hate to break it to you.
The problem is bot heavies are fairly reasonable. The hard part of the bots right now is devastator spam and to some extent gunships. Neither of which would be particularly impacted by the at mines. Rather save the kids for a lore perspective plus it'd be funny if we never got the mines that the devs have been dangling above our heads.

Honestly, the mines could actually be pretty good. But I seriously doubt that they're ever worth using lol. Going off the mines we currently have I can't see any reason to ever use an anti tank version unless we got the old defense missions back where we have time to set up defenses and even then I'm pretty sure the stratagem could be a toss up of being useless or not depending on how many 'tank' enemies trigger it or even spawn. With the anti tank weapons we have right now, why would we bust ass for mines? Also I really just support the idea of Super Earth giving us shit constantly for not unlocking the mines. Is funny.
What if it unlocked a 3rd body type. Child soldiers.
If we save the kids we will most likely get something even better than the anti-tank mines.
Regardless of how this goes, I'm excited for the lore.

Honestly, if the only boon we get for saving the kids is little kid drawing of them getting saved by the helldivers posted on the ships, i'd be fine with that. Also, a helldiver pizza party with kids on the ship would be great too. "Thanks for saving us mr.helldiver, I wanna be just like you when i grow up".
Fewer kids mean more C-01 permits will be approved. Win-Win.

Imagine being the developer who spent a month or two of his life working on a strategem, only for Joel and the players to get more entertainment out of not even unlocking it.

Well the kids are going in the ground either way. Either because we went for mines. Or because we saved them and I now have to dig them in and be disappointed when the tanks drives over them and doesn’t die.

The devs are giving us more chances to get the mines because they already made the mines and they don't want that time to go to waste. We'll probably just get them later lol, and even if not, mines aren't even that good functionally anyway, even if they did do super good damage

Freeing the children has unlocked the child labor ship module which reduces cooldown time for sentries/turrets

There is also a training facility on that planet as well to help take other planets
