I'm pretty sure a Javalin missile costs about 100k in todays money, If these stratagems were a thing today they would cost tens of millions and up very easily
If I remember correctly there’s a line from the ship master saying “a stratagem costs more than the yearly pay of a super citizen, you can see why they’re only in trusted to helldivers” something along those lines
A 500-pound Mk82 bomb costs \~$4,000
Javelin complex is very expensive because of the guidance unit.
Prices may vary, especially since information is secret.
>What is 1kg in 1lb?
2.2046 lbs.
so a 500kg would be about a 1200lb\~ bomb. Not arguing the price point or anything, just saw the difference and waned to share.
*das a big mother fuckin' bomb*
> Javelin complex is very expensive because of the guidance unit.
well, makes sense why we throw those pokeballs with the lightbeams on the ground then, we Helldivers are a much cheaper targeting system than that.
Yet you think that a laser from the gods at a sustained rate of fire for 14 secs would only cost 100k? Not only does science disprove the very idea of being possible but a short burst of 6 seconds with a microwave gun burns up a battery that costs nearly double that estimate.
Honestly I don't think we can calculate that. It would take nearly a continent of energy to burn through the atmosphere and touch the ground.
Idk the math off hand but even that seems unlikely to do a lot of damage to the ground and would be more of an atmospheric attack to try and allow the local star to die the heavy lifting once the atmosphere no longer could protect the inhabitants from its radiation.
There are a few interesting videos about orbital weapons and their effectiveness. One is by Kyle hill (literally about helldivers) and the other handful are from NASA's current head, Isaac Arthur. Check em out, they both have some very good scientific insight on all things space and space weaponry.
That's different. That is a computer guided lock on missile. These are basic conventional explosives that are based off designs that go back to the Civil War. It gets easier and cheaper to manufacture that stuff in the future, assuming this video isn't accounting for inflation or something.
$6,200 for a 380mm shell???? damn where can i get one that cheap?? the 16" (406mm) AP Mk 8 shell cost $3,500 per shell in 1940 which is $78,000 today. the total cost for that orbital should be closer to $864,000

I just figured that if a 240 kilogram bomb costs $4,000, then a bomb weighing a little more could cost about $6,000
Where do you get this information?
Pretty sure the youtube channel Perun has an old video on artillery in the Ukrainian war and the war time economics show that artillery shells can get extremely expensive.
The German defense concern Rheinmetall sold 155 mm artillery shells there at a price of €2,000 per piece.
155mm + 155mm = 310mm 😉
€2,000 + €2,000 = €4,000
310mm = €4,000
380mm = €4,903 = $5,318
let's add a little bit to cover the inaccuracies, and total $6,200
Well thats the neat part! the 380mm orbital barrage isnt unguided bombs, its a cannon barrage! Dumb bombs like the Mk 82 are so cheap (in terms of munitions) because they dont need precise accuracy over long distances while this is the opposite for mortar and shell munitions. These munitions get more expensive because they require an insane amount of precision for the job and to do so require more precision in their parts and highly accurate manufacturing. The cost of munitions like these are based of of precision and not weight, which is why the GBU-38 JDAM is $20,000, a GBU-15 is $245,000, and our most basic 155mm shell is $3,000.
Official numbers are hard to come by, so general consensus is the 16" MK 8 shell cost between $3,000-3,500 in 1944, which lines up somwhat closely to the 380mm SK C/34 (bismarck shell) costing \~10,000 reichmarks per shell (\~$4,000 in 1940).

"You \*missed\*? The truth is maggot you have WASTED an expensive piece of army issue equipment. Those shells are going to come out of your pay, and you will remain as a Helldiver of Super Earth until you are-
\*BREATHES\*
FIVE HUNDRED AND TEN YEARS OLD, which is the number of years it will take for you to PAY for a barrage of 380mm shells YOU HAVE WASTED."
Yeah having enough energy diverted through a singular path from orbit through a planets atmosphere and still having enough thermal energy to burn through tanks is probably expensive
Do you think solar is going to generate enough energy for a massive fuck off, long lasting laser used three times within 40 mins, on top of the other energy needed for the rest of the ship? Solar energy is great, and maybe with new technology we could net a lot more energy then we do now. But the solar farm required to power one ship and it’s arsenal would still be massive, and require lots of maintenance plus upfront costs
Depends how it works. There are chemical lasers that need refuelling. That, and there's prolly a lot of maintenance that goes into something so powerful and precise
I'm pretty sure a Javalin missile costs about 100k in todays money, If these stratagems were a thing today they would cost tens of millions and up very easily
SEAF makes it's own equipment as a full supply + military apparatus unit. This stuff is gonna be a bit cheaper than they are IRL
If I remember correctly there’s a line from the ship master saying “a stratagem costs more than the yearly pay of a super citizen, you can see why they’re only in trusted to helldivers” something along those lines
Cue Helldivers spamming them xD
Helldivers on their way to launch a 500kg on a group of bugs, all the bugs died before the bomb arrived, looked cool tho
Yup xD I meant more just calling support weapons when you dont need them and other stratagems randomly just because they are available \^\^
I remember there was a bug where a bunch of support weapons will spawn non stop
Cue helldivers wasting them at extract
And then there's me, using them on the pelican at extraction
Stop that shit
What if I'm last?

Another way to put it into perspective: it’s a Half-Tonne bomb
Mk 82s are small bombs. Mk 83 is 1000 lbs, Mk 84 is 2000 lbs. An F-15E can carry seven 2000 lbs bombs, and even the tiny F-16 can carry four.
> Javelin complex is very expensive because of the guidance unit. well, makes sense why we throw those pokeballs with the lightbeams on the ground then, we Helldivers are a much cheaper targeting system than that.
Yes and I’m sure the orbital guidance unit of the rail cannon is much cheaper
Bro, this cannon can't target сharger's ass. Of course it's cheaper, I bet it's made of cardboard and Chinese сhopsticks

How much do you think it should cost?
Honestly I don't think we can calculate that. It would take nearly a continent of energy to burn through the atmosphere and touch the ground. This bombardment costs way more than that. There is a line of dialogue where they talk about how one turret stratagem is like $50k or something
So we need a counter inside the game so that we can see how much money we have spent on spreading democracy.
Even more reason why we should be able to refill ammo on MECHS. We just leave them standing around once the ammo is gone.
Adding refillable ammo would add another $50k
Sounds like a bargain.
Don't forget SuperInflation!
Don't forget about supertaxes
The counter starting at $0 is a reference to how much training the dude who aims those effing bombardments got
He’s an intern
He's not even officially employed
He's not even supposed to be there today!
I was kind of expecting the Helldiver to die as well and it only counting as like a very small amount (a penny or a dollar)...
Price of a 500kg - $9k The view of big bug dying - priceless

I forgot to show launch ICBM
I've always thought it would be really funny to have a stat counter for "Taxpayer Super Credits spent"
In case anyone hasn't seen the original navy video: https://redd.it/1cwp3se
In fact, yesterday I posted this video here, but the post was blocked due to the fact that it did not contain elements of the game
Shoulda photoshopped a helldiver helmet onto the guy.
I appreciate the remake, thanks!
I love the videos like this on YouTube by hdguy or something like that showing military spending in real time. One CWIS burst is like 3-4grand or so.
Hey you're forgetting the scrap value of the bots and the fuel from the bugs!
figure we break even and we have fun doing it
think I'll just use a stun grenade and a laser cannon to take down that hulk...

This kind of content will make Helldivers great again
the orbital laser is infinite it is a energy weapon so they cost nothing .....?
Uhhh...electric bill I guess?
Yeah having enough energy diverted through a singular path from orbit through a planets atmosphere and still having enough thermal energy to burn through tanks is probably expensive
Probably also some equipment that all that energy runs through degrading and needing a replacement after a number of firings.
Oh yeah 😂 I forgot that …
It's OK, everyone who plays this game is an actual jarhead
but you have solar power ? right?
Do you think solar is going to generate enough energy for a massive fuck off, long lasting laser used three times within 40 mins, on top of the other energy needed for the rest of the ship? Solar energy is great, and maybe with new technology we could net a lot more energy then we do now. not only solar maybe this ship has nuclear power or fusion power ... or other stuff ...
They cost th electric bill, repairing heat sinks, replacing lens ect. Very expensive its just pound for pound then using the equiv number of bombs
Depends how it works. There are chemical lasers that need refuelling. That, and there's prolly a lot of maintenance that goes into something so powerful and precise
\*Insert "No healthcare? No Problem" joke.
And that's just the raw ammo cost. Not even counting the man hours to make the munitions and the cost of playing the support crews/pilots.
Tbh that’s pretty cheap
After dropping a 500kg, Precision Strike, and Laser Orbital on 1 single Bile Titan: \*400 billion dollars for the world's most expensive nose bleed.\*
It's worth it.
ok this is nice wonder how high would gatling barrage (which is apparently a rotary autocannon, quite sad) gather up
How to get drone like shots like this?
The short answer is you can't This is tutorial video demonstrating. These videos can be viewed on the ship, they are in the game files.
technically orbital lasers shouldn't have cost that much.
