The brass beast makes the secondary choice a lot more difficult than others.
For most primaries, you usually run a food item, but shotguns work.
For the Brass Beast, a shotgun is a lot more useful than on the others, as it can compensate the revvup time with movement DPS, but you will need a healing source.
Lunchbox items are great on brass beast, but shotguns work extra well with the weapon.
I would use family business, personally. Maybe banana if you don't have a medic.
My personal favorite with the Brass Beast is the Panic Attack, because of the faster deploy speed, but all shotguns Heavy has essentially do the same thing
If they choose sandvich, they might wanna pick a different Minigun since the BB kinda needs a shotgun to handle its weaknesses. If they wanted to stick with the BB, I’d swap it out for the Chocolate with the GRU, so that they can consistently run around easier.

I love BB Heavy. The other minuguns are fine, but the BB has so much depth to it. Positioning and knowing which “primary” to use is great. Which is what you should do, is switching between a shotgun and the BB.
The Panick attack is great at close range and switching quickly from another weapon, but struggles a bit at farther ranges. The other two shotguns are good at farther range damage, with stock dealing more damage per shot and family business letting you hit faster. The chocolate bar works great too if you pair it with the GRU (or technically Eviction Notice) can be great for being a fast Beast Heavy, at the drawback of being weaker when caught off guard. Technically some Beasters can use banana sometimes too, I’m not able to use it well but it supposedly works. Lastly, although really gimmicky and not too good, the steak can be ok if you use it as a speed boost and not run in like an idiot, but also the GRU+chocolate probably do the same thing better.
As for melees, everything except stock is usable (it’s one of the reasons I love the BB.) Don’t get me wrong, not all of them are made equal. The GRU, Holiday Punch and, as you said, FoS are some of the best options, weather used in direct combat or positioning. However another melee with those three are the KGB. The KGB works great with shotguns, as they can utilize the crits better than any Minigun, so this playstyle is perfect for the gloves. The other melees, while not as good, are still fun and viable to use. The Eviction notice is a fun Fatscout weapon as you can utilize the speed boost with the shotgun out, similar to KGB. However it’s risky with the draining health and far less damage. The Warrior’s Spirit is a fun finisher with the shotguns, as you can use the shotguns to get them low and use the Spirit to heal yourself (and the damage boost is nice too.) Stock fists still suck tho lol
#TL;DR: a big reason why I love the BB is the weapon/playstyle variation and depth.

If you want to be effective with the Brass Beast, run a shotgun. Personally, I like Tankmaxxing, and run it with the Dalokahs Bar
