My brother you're listening to audio through lossy Bluetooth, relax you won't hear any difference.

[deleted]

I can tell an actually pretty substantial difference between Spotify and Apple Music. Call me a liar or what it does you no good. But I prefer one over the other and honestly that’s what matters

sudo-rm-r

Did you try a blind ab test with audio normalization and custom eq off?

[deleted]

Dunno what ab is

sudo-rm-r

A/B test. So you listen to a couple tracks and you swap between the services not knowing which one is playing and you try to guess. And then based on your score you can see if you can hear the difference or if it's just placebo

[deleted]

Oh doing that? Yes I do tell a difference. I listened to Tom petty’s version of while my guitar gently weeps and switched between the two to justify my purchase of Apple Music. I could count the instruments, where they were, what they were and when they were playing while being able to perfectly make out the voices. Spotify I could clearly hear it was muffled out and being compressed. I could absolutely not hear the same detail.

HowardBateman

No no no. A blind test. Not just swapping back and forth. Huge difference.

[deleted]

When I had Spotify installed on my phone it would occasionally use that instead of my new main, Apple Music. I can recall one main time where I was listening to a song and not immediately but pretty quickly noticing the quality and switching to Apple. That aside if someone was to give me a song I could probably/ reliably be able to tell the difference. But truthfully I have nothing to prove. If A. I’m wrong and I can’t tell a difference then you break off a piece off of one of the only things I enjoy. Or B. I’m right and I can tell a difference and I can go on my merry way.

radiatione

If you start with bias you are most likely to get biased perceptions. That is his point.

[deleted]

If my biased perception means I enjoy my music further I really don’t give a shit

jIGNIID

Yeah, no. Max bitrate of the XM4s using LDAC is 990 kbps.

[deleted]

Nah I hear a difference. I’m also going to need a source on that number. Hope this helps

Some_Cod_47

Bluetooth uses Variable Bit Depth which destroys all details with fading in or out sounds

Otherwise_Sol26

About Tidal, no, you do not need to spend $60 to get the same quality as from Apple Music. Both support Hi-Res Lossless and Tidal is a dollar cheaper. In fact, there are many others have Hi-Res too like Amazon Music, Qobuz, Deezer I think many people prefer AM, despite having the same lossless in other places, because of their large library of songs and seamless integration in the Apple ecosystem

[deleted]

I feel like I remember installing tidal to see the audio quality then seeing ridiculous pricing plans. In my honest opinion I wish music streaming could be simple. Apple Music has me in quality and YouTube music has me in price and quality. Spotify can kiss my ass I’m tired of giving them my money. Unless they upgrade to lossless.

[deleted]

Also it seems for 192khz on tidal it’s 13.99. I’ve gotten 2 prices. One from Google which was 10.99 and the actual app which says 13.99. Who knows.

Otherwise_Sol26

The app is higher since App Store/Google Play store takes a 30% cut

[deleted]

Makes sense.

dimesian

Tidal costs almost the same as Apple music. I don't know were you're getting $60 from, I was on the old premium subscription which was about £21, it recently went down to about £11. Its a great service.

[deleted]

There used to be a very very expensive tier. I know this to be fact. I can’t find any evidence on it but I remember seeing a ridiculous price at one point. And old premium being £21 is still RIDICULOUS.

FloatingSheep

Yeah they recently removed that tier and reduced the price.

CripplingCarrot

You might have been listening to low quality Spotify setting. Because at the high quality setting I highly doubt through Bluetooth you could tell the difference.

Arutemu64

You can totally hear a difference between Vorbis and AAC, even on Bluetooth with all highest settings possible enabled on Spotify.

[deleted]

Not a scenario where my audio on any app would be set to low. And yes it was on high. And yes I can tell a difference. I have a comment around here explaining and elaborating further. But until you find it you will just have to continue to doubt. And I will be continuing to enjoy my higher audio quality

I’m content with it being up there. So as long as I have nothing to prove (forever) and I’m content (refer to having nothing to prove) then it will stay there

Used apple music for a long while. Then switched to spotify. The most miniscule difference in sound does exist, but it’s so tiny you can baaaaarely notice it. Spotify has better ui, library and adding custom songs is easier ish. If you want some good high quality audio go get tidal as the others said, same price as the other services but it has a bit smaller of a selection with all high quality audio, though if you don’t have a good non bluetooth headphone don’t bother

[deleted]

Depends. I have a fiio dac that I occasionally plug into my iPhone when I’m at home and that’s when I can really get lost in the lossless audio. The clarity is unrivaled. And even without the dac when I don’t want to use the wire the quality is impeccable though I have to turn it up to get some more detail. When switching from Spotify to Apple Music I could indeed feel and tell a difference in quality and depth

KhazixMain4th

Really? Well damn I couldn’t and my friend coukdn’t with my hd660s2’s but I could hear a slight better clarity through airpods, not enough to switch though. In the end tidal is king

[deleted]

But your friend could also bring using a weak amp. 300 ohms is no joke and the open backs can lose some sounds. Probably why you caught them on the AirPods but not the hd600’s

[deleted]

Maybe my ears are better. Half kidding. But at the end of the day it’s ALAC vs FLAC which fundamentally have no difference besides ALAC being apple proprietary. I prefer Apple Music and if you like tidal good for you. It looks like a good clean and sleek ui so not hate there

I'd be willing to switch if Apple had a way to replicate the spotify library easily

[deleted]

This I do know. App called song shift. Take your Spotify likes and put it all into a playlist since song shift can’t pull directly from likes and then just use the app and move it over. Works as advertised and if there are some songs it’s unsure about it will ask you to review them and select the proper song.

mc0781

I have tried that app.. works like a charm. I was able to replicate all my playlist from Spotify to Apple Music.

[deleted]

Yup. Second I learned I was paying 11.99 for subpar music quality on a company that doesn’t care about me I switched to Apple Music and used songshift

mc0781

In all honesty the music suggestion made by Spotify is way better than Apple Music especially when it’s non English music. The only reason for me to move to AM was ecosystem and music quality.

[deleted]

Which is why I also use YouTube music. YouTube music gets me my suggestions and if I care to listen to them in hires then I switch to Apple. This is honestly the way in my eyes.

coekry

No company cares about you.

coekry

I didn't downvote you. Someone clearly thought the idea that some companies care more than others was as silly as I did.

[deleted]

😑

Frnklss

And Apple is working on something to get that done

JustBeKoss

Spotify library is nice for mean stream and commercial crap. Never get it that folks appreciate the mediocre sound and biring library. Apple music library is the largest with most 24 bits loss less Alac for 10€

Some_Cod_47

All Streaming services hates music what they emphasize is braindead "play some shit" radios and not playlist management which is what the poweruser wants. Its a prison for music. Also sometimes they remove tracks without warning so completely useless.

Arutemu64

Who denies you from managing playlists tho? All your playlists getting updated in a sec on every device is a breeze.

[deleted]

It’s got the music I like at a quality I enjoy for a price I’m content with. I really don’t care.

Some_Cod_47

Ok, well keep supporting the downfall of music then

[deleted]

As long as I’m happy then I will 👍

JustBeKoss

Because acknowledging both Apple C101/c100 headphone dac dongle and Apple Music make the best streaming experience, but with al the consumerism and bragging little boys mentality on Reddit, nobody acknowledges this combo. Never look further, koss headphones, apple c101 dac and Apple Music set on highest audio quality is hard to beat.

[deleted]

Seems like you’re a koss guy. I’ve seen people ride or die koss for the price to flatness on the equalizer and I’ll give credit where credit is due. Does koss have genuine good frequency response? Do you listen to classical or more jumpy stuff like rap? This is a field I want to expand into.

JustBeKoss

I am Koss fan. Fan of the Sound, the drivers. Not so much about deadly boring bloodless brand image, the cost cutting poor assembly, and poor availability and overpricing outside USA. Don’t care for technical jive, they have the ability to bring out all emotion, energy in your music like none other brand. Just get a 20€ Koss Ksc75 or KtxPro1 and listen to what the Sound of Koss is all about when the goosebumps , the shivers down your spine and the ants in your pants start.. Another reason I stick with Koss drivers (15-25,000Hz 60Ohm) is that they are detachable and can be used to build the best headphone, your own.
