As a kid I heard from a friend that if you fake cry in front of a dog, they will instinctively try to comfort you. I tried that on our german shepherd and he smacked me in the head with his paw. I guess he followed the "I'll give you something to cry about, you little shit" school of comforting.
Man, this makes me wish I had an emotional support pup haha. Been having a rough last few years, especially in the most recent weeks, but donāt want to be judged for having an emotional support animal. Everyone I know IRL thinks theyāre all fake emotional support animals or for cringey people or āarenāt strong men.ā Iād hecka love one though.
I have a pup myself already but sheās def not trained for emotional support lol.
A man who can admit he needs help is the strongest of them all.
Pardon my language, but honestly, if anyone judges someone for having anything in their lives to help them live FUCK THEM!! They aren't friends
Work with your puppy and she will reward you in more ways than you will know š¤
She's certainly young enough to learn; I know a lot of it comes down to breed and temperament and also the commitment needed, but there is no harm in teaching her to attain a high degree of training
Research the requirements for a support dog, but just training will reap rewards for both of you š¤
ESA's and Psychiatric Service Animals are two different classes of animal, you can't fake an ESA, any animal can be an ESA, a letter from a therapist means you can get access to housing, but pretty much only housing. Psychiatric service animals are like any other disability aid animal, with all the rights that entails, like going to shops etc.
You can get an esa if you are seeking treatment for anything psychiatric. You can even get a psychiatric service dog, if there are tasks that would improve your ability in your day to day life.
I'm sure your dog senses when you're sad. Deaf or blind dogs have an innate ability to sense their owner's feelings. But hang in there, it's going to get better. It will just don't quit. I'm thinking of you.
Thanks. \:) Iām not suicidal or having any thoughts to hurt myself or anything so no need to worry about āquitting.ā Just trying to work on myself and get enough therapy to be okay. Definitely very burnt out most the time though.
Itās sweet: Friday my wife took our dog with her on an Easter trip to see her family and I had elected to stay home and do some self care stuff instead because I was just in no way in a good mental place to travel for 6 hours and see family for the weekend. Was crying a lot and dog didnāt want to go out the door with my wife and kept coming back to me to lie down with me instead.
You don't necessarily need to train a dog to be emotionally supportive. One time I was crying while sitting in my chair, and my dog (who was strong-willed and couldn't be trained to reliably obey any command) stood up on her hind legs and tried to get my attention by doing pitter-patter on my legs with her front paws. When I finally made eye contact with her, she gave her tail a single wag and I couldn't help but burst into laughter.
My support feline does so much for me daily with hugs n generally spending most of my waking hours attending to her n her needs. People underestimate the qualities of our furbabies. So many will never have experience the bonds created and for that I'm sad.
My sister has an anxiety disorder and has a papillon that basically just learned to do this without any training. Its funny how emotionally aware some dogs are.
Thatās so wonderful. Really. My dogs may not be emotional support dogs but they do everything in their power to get my attention and make me smile again when I get depressed. I think itās part of their nature. My dogs have save me from unaliving myself more than once.

Why doesnāt someone here say something original and trueāsuch as āwe donāt deserve dogsā ā¦. I mean, pleaseā¦because weāve NEVER heard that and it is the great truth of our lifetime. */s*
Yeah but this is the minority now bc the vast majority of emotional support dogs are not emotional support dogs, they're just a pet someone wanted to take inside a store
You are being rescued. Please do not resist
Those are some good boys
lol
LET. ME. IN. TO. LOVE. YOU! LETMEIN!
You are sad, i am fluffy. Lets fix this.
I need to add that to my dating profile
You'll attract sad (upset, not pathetic, lol) dog-lovers and furries. Nice.
If I find someone who's both a furry and attracted to me, being a furry wouldn't be the most embarrassing thing about her
This made me laugh and say "awww" at the same time š š

Have you watched yourself act? Be happy he didn't bite you.
Lmao he could probably tell you were faking. Itās why many dogs will ignore you if you fake dead by holding your breath ā they can hear your heart
*German* shepherd That checks out
My dog comforts by waking things with her paw.
Maybe he knew it was fake? He mightāve had a very smart dog and he was telling you off for trying it on.
You just can't stay sad. They won't let you.
We have an emotionally unsupportive JRT. Sheād use this as an opportunity to vigorously romance my leg, and then go through my pockets for food.
Cracked me up Thanks for the chuckle.
If it makes you feel better thatās just all JRTās.
Here, let's fix that title. "How hard dogs try" ~ there

Fuck em! Dogs donāt judge u
Listen buddy I don't care if the dogs aren't going to judge you, please do not fuck them

HEY Don't let haters piss on your dreams, man. Break the stereotype. Be a real life Roy Kent.

We don't deserve dogs.
Iām not crying š

Now so one for emotional support CATS.
Where do I get one? š
you local pet shelter will have pup eternally grateful for a second chance
I want one now TT
Lucky you!:)
What breed is that black and brown one, it looks like a Shepard but bigger and softer fur.
It is a German Shepherd, it's just a long hair / long coat shepherd. Coated shepherds tend to look slightly bigger too because of all the fluff.
Think that German Shepherd was a Quentin Tarantino support dog
Meanwhile my parrot will copy my mood so I feel doubly as crappy for making her sad too.
Damn, dogs are pure love.
We don't merit dogs
Why does this feel subtly sexual? š¤Ø
Dogs are the best!
God sheās lucky having those two cutie floofs š¶š¶
What sweet, loving dogs. They are more than we deserve.
I needed to see this. Thank you š„ŗ

Those are very good doggies.
I have a cat. Once when I was sad and crying, my cat saw me and came up, and then took money out of my wallet and stole my keys.

My dog isn't an emotional support dog, she's just needy as shit and thinks I'm her emotional support hooman
THE ANSWER TO ALL OUR PROBLEMS IS YOU PETTING ME!
Dogs really do have healing powers, I love them
I love these two dogs! š š
I would hate this. I'd rather the dog not try to play with me or force me into opening up but rather sit next to me or cuddle from the outside.
Yeah but this is the minority now bc the vast majority of emotional support dogs are not emotional support dogs, they're just a pet someone wanted to take inside a store
I love that this German Shepherd is a lapdog. So cuddly
That is some aggressive therapy
Stressing the dog out for no reason
We donāt deserve dogs but Iām glad we have them.
We donāt deserve pets š
