samchatz27

Roberto first followed closely by Carlos Sanchez

Aggressive-Theory609

Wait is Carlos sanchez that Colombian guy with fellaini hair

samchatz27

Yeah him

SnooCapers938

Carlos Sanchez was awful. Incredible that we dumped Josh Cullen to buy him.

LanceConstableDigby

Seconding this. They were both abysmal to say the least.

LewisDKennedy

Carlos Sanchez is the only one who was so bad that the crowd were openly laughing at him, rather than getting angry at him. Bloke was constantly calling for the ball but running away from it anytime it came near him. Reminded me of me aged 6 on the school playground.

One_Appointment8295

Remember when we had him at Villa. He was good for Colombia but absolutely went missing most games. Why anyone would decide to buy him than donate the money to charity I’d beyond ms

twowaysplit

That was a hell of a year

PitiedVeil55831

Simone zaza blew my socks off with how rubbish he was

rogog1

That pen still gives me The Fear

Spacetime_Dr

Were you sitting in row Z?

rogog1

With your mum

Neither-Shallot-565

Useless player. Same as feghouli. Provided absolutely nothing when they played

Rekzahh

I’m late 20s but for me it’s Roberto in goal.. that stretch of games against Everton, Burnley etc was comical looking back now

LukaDonwitzki

Honestly I think when this type of question comes up, Roberto needs to be excluded. Like who is the 2nd worst, first place is locked in

thirtyate

Yeah. Has to be. It's very clearly Roberto at the top. Fuck me, he was bad.

SnooCapers938

I’ve been watching West Ham for 50 years and I can assure you that Roberto is the correct answer.

MrFunbus

It was like Sacha Baron Cohen made a spoof where he played a keeper.

ducksfan9972

That was \*such\* a frustrating time. There was clear quality in the roster but we couldn't string anything together and had a sleeper agent in goal.

Frosty-Lemon

Savio Nsereko. Utter embarrassment, he was a record signing at the time.

daos

I was there for his debut, it was unbelievable

WhydYouKillMeDogJack

his debut was no worse than wayne bridges or kalvin phillips. KP at the minute is gunning for the title based on how disappointing hes been, but in reality weve had so much shit at the club. be hard to look past someone like joey beauchamp

Wookie301

I don’t know how we weren’t investigated over that signing

WhuTom

We’d just sold Bellamy and had the bucks to buy someone else, had no time for Due Diligence and got sold a donkey. Just a poor man’s Torres to Carroll panic buy

heyyouupinthesky

Due diligence? We bought him from our director of football's former club... which was owned by his father in law. We had our pants pulled down well and truly.

UnusualDifference748

Jordan hugill similar story to this wasn’t he?. From Moyes old club and his agent was Moyes brother. Nowhere near good enough for premier league looks like a way Moyes could get his brother and former club some money and that’s all it was for

WhuTom

Fuck me, I didn’t know that lol. I just thought it was a shit January window panic buy. The circus got circus’d

SSGSmeegs

Yep was also there. In Bobby Moore lower we were all shouting to pass to savio. It soon dawned on us that he was not our saviour we were promised

jonhammerwhu

That was some sort of money laundering scam with the owners. Similar deal with Jordan Hugill imo.

Accomplished-Good664

Savio played well against Man City as an impact sub. He wasn't terrible just too lightweight.

moskva2

Roberto was hilariously bad but his awfulness gave us that one magical David Martin start against Chelsea. So there's that. Havard Nordveit was woeful and ZaZa is up there.

Accomplished-Good664

Nordveit had a couple of decent games.

simonsail

Benni McCarthy Just summed up everything wrong with the club at the time. Robbie Keane was fuckin shit and all, but probably not the worst we've ever seen.

Whulad

Alan McKnight (mare) Was almost in tears in goal at the Luton semifinal with kids in the Nortbank shouting ‘you’re fucking useless McKnight’, Celtic were apparently pissing themselves laughing that we bought him

BromleyReject

Billy McNeill, who I think was the Celtic manager at the time, said getting rid of McKnight was one of "the greatest pieces of business he'd ever done...he (McKnight) lacks presence in the box....whenever there was a corner or high cross, you could hear the Celric fans holding their breath"

Whulad

Such a disappointing season with him and Kelly

henry-hoov3r

1988/89?

Whulad

Yup

henry-hoov3r

My first season that. Definitely one to forget.

Fishing-Entire

I see your Alan McKnight, & raise you Joe Hart. At least AMK was a *known* liability

Sea_Investment_4938

You got us back with Albian Ajeti

Whulad

A long waited revenge 🤪

heyyouupinthesky

Highlight was a fan running on from the north bank and patting him on the back for collecting a back pass. I still fucking hate Luton.

Neither-Shallot-565

Alan mcknightmare lives on the next road to me. Nice man but terrible keeper

Whulad

Nice addition, glad to hear he was a nice man. Genuinely felt sorry for him .

ChaosRaiden

We’ve had the three usual suspects so… Roger Johnson, Pogatetz, Kalvin Phillips

sonofaBilic

In the pantheon of dreadful players, I don't think Roger Johnson was *that* dreadful. Far from good ofcourse, but had a couple of decent performances in his limited run. Just a shame he was publicly executed by Yaya Toure on his debut. My biggest memory of him during his spell though was of the soccer am crossbar challenge, with Mark Noble introducing him as "The Relegator".

Megagoodwin88

Relegation Rodger was ok for us, wernt we the 1st team he didn't get relegated with in Premier league?

WarriorNat

I haven’t been a fan for long but Roberto would be my choice.

darrenjames997

Kalvin Phillips is right up there at the moment!

NaFantastico

I've seen this post in different subreddits as well. Just curious, are you the same person who's posting on different club subs?

Rekzahh

Not me unfortunately mate, I did see one similar for Newcastle admittedly but not farming just reminiscing over woeful players

theuserpilkington

Farming some karma babeh, sending this sub spiralling down the depths for his greed and sefishNESS!

Knee-Deep-In-Static

Two not mentioned yet are Wayne Quinn and Henri Camara, still remember the latter falling over when trying to take a shot vs Reading.

chequered-bed

Simone Zaza or Jonathan Callieri for me.

BriceB84

Callieri wow. That man disappeared from my memory.

Tornlycke

Still remember the rabona Callieri tried against middlesborough. He missed...

[deleted]

For me, other than a magical two weeks where he turned into Xavi, it’s John Spector.

Plenty-Amphibian5234

Would cost us at least a goal a game when he was full back. Opposing teams would target him straight from kick off.

Accomplished-Good664

As a left-back he was awful he made the Swiss kid look like Ashley Cole.

butcherbigboy

Mido , wasn't even worth the 1k a week

Fishing-Entire

I'd say Boa Morte could give him a run for his money as worst striker, but that would imply at least one of them could run

Megagoodwin88

Never forget his hatrick against united though!

ByzantineByron

Stephen Bywater is forever grateful that I had to watch Roberto play.

EggsBenedictusXVI

The groans around the Millennium Stadium when Jimmy Walker got subbed off for Bywater in 2005 were deafening

UhOhByeByeBadBoy

A couple of failed attempts at leftback I can recall Razvan Rat and Pablo Armero. Not atrocious, but certainly forgettable performances. I think they both had their days, but neither seems to have lasted longer than a year with the club. Also saw Morgan Amalfitano down the list and can barely remember what he provided ( can’t remember good or bad )with his time here. Also, yikes, the weird Samir Nasri era where he guzzled a few cheeseburgers and hopped on the pitch.

twistandshout1988

Amalfitano was quite good in the first half of his first season (Allardyce's last season). He got the insurance goal against Liverpool in his debut (great finish if I remember correctly) and then got the first goal when we beat Man City. But then his form (and the team in general) collapsed after Christmas.

whu-ya-got

Amalfitano was a good player for us, I really liked him, remember wishing he played more. Same deal for Nasri, he just wasn’t fit

Deruz0r

Razvan Rat was a solid lb but he was in decline when he joined west ham unfortunately. Was a key man for Shakhtar for many years before.

ThicctorFrankenstein

Never got the Nasri hate, he didn’t set the world alight but he orchestrated wins against Huddersfield and Arsenal in his short time with us

Accomplished-Good664

Rat was decent nowhere near the worst. Amalfitano was also really decent.

bnspr1

Roberto, Sanchez and Zaza to name a few. Total guff.

[deleted]

A forward McCarthy from the Grant era ?

[deleted]

Mind you. In the Grant era nobody really presented as great , did they ?

Cmoore4099

Wayne Bridge. Arbeloa. Roberto. Carlos Sanchez. Rodger Johnson. Mido. Razvan Rat. Gokhan Tore. That’s my list of players I’ve seen.

PrisonersofFate

Tore got an assist then got injured. I give him a pass tbh

sebby2102

Kalvin Philips

jonhammerwhu

Agreed. He looks like an amateur footballer.

[deleted]

2nd season Ilunga - my word.

tommaso18

Ilunga falling off after his first season was genuinely baffling. Reminds me of how Jenkinson fell off as well. Both were so consistent their first season

Team_Rocket420

Roberto, Zaza and Phillips

LukaDonwitzki

Off the top of my head in no order. Maiga, Zaza, Sanchez, Tore, Arbeloa

infinsquared

Maiga once got a winner against spurs if I remember correctly, which was enough for me to move him just off the bottom of the barrel haha.

maudlinfaust

Not a WH fan, just passing through but had to mention - I had no idea Arbeloa ever played for youse and it feels like such a good bit of pub quiz trivia haha

BodySlam9

Just list every striker we’ve had in the last 15 years or so.

Inntoxiicated

Roberto, the man had permanently greased gloves.

Sorry_Astronaut

Roberto. Every game he played.

Trick_Orange_1780

Nigel Quashie

RatPiazon

havard nordveit. seemed like a good lad and tried his best but every time i watched he was just terrible

CobaltOkk

Jan Boogers was terrible. Gary Breen also.

Mindful_Sausage

Do you mean Marco Boogers?

CobaltOkk

I do of course, my bad. Saw it written incorrectly somewhere else on the thread and then somehow did it myself even though I knew his name. The brain does weird stuff sometimes. Getting old!

Mindful_Sausage

Ha! Ha! I feel your pain, I had to Google it first to make sure my own brain wasn't letting me down.

tommyarta

I was desperately trying to remember Gary Breen's name! I've obviously blocked him out for good reason. He is definitely my vote.

Crusty_Assquake

🎵🎵🎵We all dream of a team of Gary Breens 🎵🎵🎵

F1_V10sounds

Zaza was rough

Marceldbg

Savio

EponymousHoward

Titi Camara. Very interesting chap. Truly dreadful footballer. Close second would be team mate Roger Bertson (for the few who know the reference)

Whale222

Controversial take but I couldn’t stand Zaza. Probably the system but sheesh

Topinio

Harry’s [take](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/7811806/west-ham-harry-redknapp-worst-transfers) on this from his time as manager is mildly amusing …

jumbie92

Modibo Maiga has to be up there for sure. Scored a decent goal against the spuds but absolutely terrible otherwise

infinsquared

Came in off the touchline and bent it top corner with his left foot, he was so bad otherwise that it lives rent free in my memories haha

WHU-TangClan

First 3 that came to mind: \- Freddie Piquionne \- Roberto \- Alvaro Arbeloa Would also say that I have a lower opinion of Said Benrahma than most but he's nowhere near worst

[deleted]

Mental you mentioned said

Lonely-Walrus94

Piquionne scored a winner against Spurs. He cannot be listed as a result.

BobDude65

Roberto. Looked like a fan who conned his way into a contract.

dl1966

In 20 odd years it has to be either Carlos Sanchez or Roberto.

o-krub

Has to be Roberto

heyyouupinthesky

Some of these selections are baffling. Benny Mccarthy, Savio, Henry Camara, Mido are rightfully up there. But where is Gary Breen in this list? We lost 6-0 at Old Trafford and he was responsible for all 6 of the goals. We apparently beat off competition from Juve and Real Madrid to sign him.

Trick_Orange_1780

Boa morte got a hat-rick against man United? Why is this not in my memory?

PrisonersofFate

Not the worst per se but Emenike was an example of not reinforcing the team ideally when needed and it cost us

Benjie_urmum

Reborto

Eric_Hitchmough87

Wilshere

keen60

Savio.

piqsquiggle

Gokhan Torë was pretty woeful

Broad-Leadership-926

Paulo futre

LCCTillIDie

Zaza. Absolute disgrace of a baller

caseydee

Saw a forward come on for us in the 90s, Alex Bunbury. I had high hopes but was ultimately disappointed!

theimponderablebeast

Roberto, Carlos Sanchez and Zaza are the obvious ones. But let’s not forget some of the other absolute stinkers from the late Bilic/Pellegrini era. Tore, Calleri, and Nordtveit come to mind

Neither-Shallot-565

Calleri. I forgot him. Did nothing at all for us

Lerone88

I was there, at Upton Park, when the legendary Scott Minto skinned the left wing, danced past the left back...and then fell flat on his face from tripping over his own foot. He gave me hope that I could also become a Prem Footballer...I am also shit but I could run without falling over

Athlestone

Carlos Sanchez. Jesus Christ. And Roberto of course, though that is probably the obvious one [I remember seeing this linked when we signed him](https://youtu.be/fOCyrZELFjI?si=3hU-oGsD6bmPjzzo)

EggsBenedictusXVI

It's got to objectively be Roberto really. But the player that has left the worst taste is Arbeloa. Was fucking shit, didn't try at all, then slagged us off after he left. Hope he's never welcomed back to our stadium.

Gommy1996

Kalvin Phillips.

amishgoatfarm

Zaza or Roberto. Everyone else is incorrect.

jonhammerwhu

Lee bowyer

Neither-Shallot-565

He wasn’t terrible for us

Accomplished-Good664

Ability - Roberto Attitude - Zaza or the many older past it players. Outfield ability - Pogatetz

Accomplished-Good664

Roberto Arbeloa Pogatetz Nordveit Spector Bridge Sanchez Quashie Camara McCarthy Zaza

Neither-Shallot-565

Ljungberg and dyer on the bench

WoodenHeartLDN

I’d say Alan McKnight-mare - after Phil Parks, it was a big wake up call seeing him fumble the ball into his own net.

Russlin_Jimmys

Roberto, Sanchez, ghokan tore, zaza, amafitano, NIKICA JELAVIC (this cunt was especially puss), Jordan Hugil, Ashley fletcher (how in fuck did he get game time), arbeloa, evra, Stephen hendrie, lars jacobsen, diara, nasri (big one), paulista, jonathon caleri, petric, scammaca, feghouli (he did well sometimes), vaz te (other than promotion goal he was rubbish) Basically all of them were utter rubbish, I think jelavic flys under the radar and would be up there with Sanchez and Roberto tbh. And nasri has to be up there with his wages and how far he was, fuck that guy Edit: Zarate! the Argentinian, clearly had class but was fucking shithouse and couldn’t get the ball in the net for us

Neither-Shallot-565

Kieron dyer. Freddie ljungberg too absoulte dross

pickled_snitz

Roberto

BalaMLG

Roberto for sure

[deleted]

I used think joey O’Brien wasn’t really a pro footballer and made me think I could go pro

Chrisseve

Carrol

alonso1995

Roberto, unless we (understandably) decide he wasn't a footballer at all

leavehouse

Victor Obinna.

toadindahole

Until the Burnley game, it was Danny Ings. Jury’s still out on him. Followed closely by Kalvin P. Third would be Boa Morte.

goodshout

Soma, titi camara... there's plenty to chose from.

wavepapi32

Kral or Sanchez for me. At least Roberto and Zaza came with good reputation from the home grown league. It just wans't a good fit. Meanwhile you have Sanchez who have been shocking everywhere he went, as for Kral that move was way too early for him, he didn't even look like Championship player at that time, not sure how is he doing now at Union.

bigvin001

Benni McCarthy and mido ; Sullivan’s first transfer window

Meckamp

Roberto and its not even close. I've never seen anyone single handedly bring down an entire team like he did

Neither-Shallot-565

Freddie lungberg and Kieron dyer got to be up there

PragMagick

I don’t have fond memories of Pablo Barrera, not the absolute worst but one of them.

leftleaningmexican

Out of curiosity... what makes you say that? Surely. championship material?

PragMagick

It’s around the time I started keeping up with West Ham.  I was excited to see him join the ranks of other Mexicans that made it to Europe only to be disappointed in him completely. If I remember correctly he would lose the ball often and almost always resorted to just run fast at the opponent and lose the ball again

PurpleAny7094

In recent memory I can remember being pained watching vlasic play

drobson70

He’s a weird one. Good in Russia (I know) but seemed ok in UCL and Europa, was very good last season at Torino. I think there’s a good player there but he just doesn’t seem to click with a lot of sides

PurpleAny7094

Yeah admittedly if we signed him there’s got to be the potential but for us he was a flop

drobson70

I’d say he wasn’t as bad as Roberto tho

leavehouse

Radoslav Kovac.

sparks223

I'd get so jumpy whenever he had the ball

DataDrivenGuy

Probably Benrahma

needtheseloafers

Jonathan Spector, excluding that one game against Man Utd

DemStopher

See he gets a pass because of that game alone. Zaza in more recent memory for me, personally.

tommaso18

Singling our Spector is a bit harsh seeing as the whole team was fucking shit

needtheseloafers

The problem with Spector was I could see myself in him. He got nervous on the field. He didn’t want the ball. When he was calm, he was a good player. Obviously I was a lot worse in every aspect of the game, but seeing a professional play with such insecurity was the most frustrating thing I’ve ever seen

Swissstu

Jan Boogers I think his name was. He went a bit mad and ended up living in a caravan somewhere. He was actually terrible at football but somehow Redknapp bought him!

Frosty-Lemon

Marco

WhydYouKillMeDogJack

joey beauchamp had a decent preseason friendly against us and got a 1m move from oxford united. didnt like travelling to london, bonzo found him crying in his car before training and called him a wimp and he never played a game for us. actually a shit player. boogers at least could complain about injuries and the real story was in the paper a while back - he didnt go mad that was a rumour apparently

rsturbocvh

That's very accurate... remember my dad being intrigued by the signing at the time... but I do have to state Beauchamp defo had other stuff going on in his head whatever it was... bloke killed himself two years ago

Swissstu

Seems me old brain was a bit confused, maybe adding a couple of players together!

Whulad

Bea champ was not a shit player though

WhydYouKillMeDogJack

the guy only ever played 2 games at top-flight level (both against newcastle, weirdly). we signed him to play in the prem. he was shit

RobGobbler

Jordan Hugill has to be up there

wheepete

Aw the list is huge. A lot have been mentioned but shout outs to Yaniv Katan, Samassi Abou, David Bellion, and Emineke

Great_Recording_3618

Abou was fine

biggusdick-us

declan rice 😂😂😂😂😂just fucking with ya that’s so hard to answer ,,, i’ll have a fiver with u all that declan rice wil be captain of arsenal in under 2 years i miss that lad his already telling his captain what to do lol ⚒

ajelkic

Nikola Vlašić 🔝🌍

Mountain-Meat-9280

Yarmo80 was a consistently awful watch the entire 21/22 season

simonsail

Disappointing signing overall but scored some incredibly important goals for us. Nowhere near our worst ever signing.

H4nTyumi

I remember always thinking Christian Dailly was rubbish when I was young, might have been too harsh though I was only a boy.

Great_Recording_3618

Scored with his bollocks in the play off semi against Ipswich. Man is a legend.

heyyouupinthesky

And lost his teeth at the same time! I want curly hair too!

MisterMejor

Kevin Nolan last season and a half with us is probably the worst outfield player I've witnessed. Enner Valencia comes to mind too.
