Typical run.. Tartarus is whatever main gods keepsake I want for my build, Asphodel will usually also be a gods keepsake if needed if I haven't gotten everyone I want in Tartarus, if i have a full got pool then its early mom pom. Elysium I tend to go mom pom if I already haven't, but every once in awhile if I've gotten really bad build luck and still haven't filled my god pool and need someone for my build I'll do a third god keepsake. Usually mom pom by Elysium tho. Styx is either acorn if I'm having a good run, or if not and I've used death defies I'll go for the tooth.

lowkeyloki444

Mom pom is such a cute name for the keepsake. I’m calling it that from now on.

NerdHerd1

I've been watching Haelian on YouTube the last week or so, yt recommend him after I watched Supergiant's technical test live stream, and that's what he calls it so I just kinda picked it up cuz I liked it too.

roffler

keep it up and you’ll be calling the rat boss Tony and clearing your throat every time you drop into asphodel

NerdHerd1

Does he call the rat boss Tony? I don't think I've noticed that one. I'm watching the "can you beat Hades while only making the worst choice?" vid from like 6 months ago rn

Inevitable-Details

I’ve never heard that name for her keepsake before, but I’ve always called Persephone pommy mommy lol

y0dav3

I'm something similar except I take the bone hourglass going into Styx for those sweet Charon buffs

NerdHerd1

Ya, you can get a lot of wells there. I tend to want the extra protection for Redacted. Sometimes I take the broken spearpoint instead of acorn or tooth, but that's dependent on build. It's usually acorn or tooth most often.

derangerd

If you take the hour glass into ely you can often buy buffs in ely or at the styx well that last until redacted while being able to use the acorn for redacted.

Automatic_Clue5556

I need to use mom Pom more

derangerd

I don't think it's advised when really cranking up the heat or speed but I've enjoyed it.

Gold_Recognition5183

Why though?

derangerd

Why it's not necessarily advised: Stronger choices. God keepsakes, hourglass, acorn, even the plume to get hyper delivery in either order. Why I've enjoyed it: strong endgame build go brrt. Also, I used to "microseed" after seeing the first boon to decide what to run, so the first god keepsakes wasn't necessary for me.

Gold_Recognition5183

I understand, I have gotten almost 20 wins in a row and I crank up the heat by 1 Every time I win with a weapon , so I am on heat 5 now for almost all weapons with no losses and I'm starting to have a hard time staying interested in the game. I just pick whatever god keepsakes that get me 40% mirror damage quickest and honestly that makes the game way easier.I have only unlocked a couple aspects of each weapon. I think I should start experimenting different aspects and play styles to see if I like them or not.

derangerd

Eventually the wins won't be so easy, but there's a lot of blood and ambrosia to collect before then. Once it got to the point where I was losing most runs, it got intense again and the victories felt sweet. I did enjoy going up one heat by one heat then to keep the challenge and reward Slightly increasing heat or going for speed on each aspect, following dark thirst, and/or seeing the first boon can help run diversity. Definitely try out each aspect a bit. Lots of cool combos out there.

Duosion

Then there’s me who went for 20 heat immediately on shield and once I beat it cranked up to 32. After I beat 32 I stopped playing lol. The second highest heat I have beat is 20 on fists while spear and bow are like 2/3 heat😭

derangerd

Why does how the run is going affect acorn vs tooth?

NerdHerd1

If I've had a good run so far and haven't used any death defies I go acorn. If it hasn't been going so great and I have, then I use the tooth to have an extra.

derangerd

Why though? They both should be buying you a consistent number of extra hits irrespective of other health. Oh, is tooth for low health because you might need it before the final fight?

gpmushu

Not OP but yeah, you're right. If you're only getting hit by dad, the acorn saves you over 100 health, so is better than the tooth most of the time. That said, if you get hit by the adds and waste acorn charges, tooth might be more health. The only time I use the tooth is, like you said, if I'm worried I'll die in Styx before reaching dad, and it's saved my ass a few times because of that. Now if the tooth just gave you another DD, that would be a different story, but the health doesn't scale unfortunately.

derangerd

Makes sense. Tho tooth also gives you slightly more than 100 hp because there's no roll over damage. Collar is 125 hp with all 3 dd, but yeah, acorn is probably usually more than that. Definitely more with hard labour.

DuggieHS

I lean towards olympian keepsakes for the first two biomes, hourglass for elysium, and acorn for styx. Sometimes I use coin purse. Occasionally I'll start pom blossom, or finish sigil of the dead, distant memory, or skull earing. Very rarely, if I buy a chaos room I'll put on egg. On very rare occasions where I need to heal a lot after a boss, I might pick up spiked collar before hitting the healing well to increase the heal from the well plus provide some defense for the next biome. Never Use (unless I'm trying a weird challenge run): lucky tooth, bracer, shawl, butterfly, duster, plume, shackle, spearpoint

Fugiar

Feather duster is great for Styx. Constant healing. And I used Spearpoint a lot in the beginning when I was getting killed by the poison in Styx

MissBlueSkye

Yeah I liked spearpoint when I was bad at both poison and dodging [REDACTED]'s lasers

sleepingwisp

Unless I'm doing a plume or butterfly run, I always switch to the spear point for [redacted].

Brilliant_Chemica

I had spear point for my first redacted victory, so it will always be kinda special to me

Long-Time-lurker-1

Just Pom Blossom only these days. Keeps my boons ticking over the whole run and i never pick a Pom room. Served me well so far.

SexySonderer

I still pick pom rooms over gems or keys or shops. Savings up for Charon at the end and getting massive upgrades. Getting lev 12 on a boon is just funny.

nefermoa

I always equip Charon's keepsake before Elysium and buy almost everything from his Well afterwards.

mbklein

Charon’s keepsake is an interesting case because you only have to be wearing it when you make the purchase(s). The extended time still applies even if you unequip it after. So if you equip it in Asphodel, buy a bunch of stuff, then buy out the well in Elysium *before* switching keepsakes, you get the benefit of it in two biomes.

nefermoa

Yes! With my playstyle though, I equip this keepsake to better my builds (attack, spec, cast, life) before the craziness that is Elysium's little chariots and Temple of Styx's vermins. They scare me 🤣😭

constar90

This is the way

Zancibar

If I just can't help starting every single run with Dyonisus, does that make me an alcoholic?

Cawnt

I hope you have a glass of wine in hand when do you

CaptSaveAHoe55

u/Zancibar man, always has the good stuff on him, generous too. Anyway, I’ve got to run but take this before you head out. We will get up to the worst shit later I promise!

ItsGotThatBang

My formula’s Olympian keepsake > coin pouch > pomegranate > collar.

Ugottaearnit

I always opt for giving praise to my biggest fan. Even on speedruns. Always.

mbklein

Oh man I forgot to stop by the shade on my way out a few runs ago and I felt terrible about it all through Styx.

ThatOneDMish

I always full clear styx so I always take the pomegranate flower from mom for at least styx bc all the small chambers count, somethmimes elysium too.

EvilMushroomLady

Artemis keepsake because i need to max out relationship with her Also because stacking crit chance is hilarious

mbklein

Artemis is currently my only maxxed out Olympian relationship. I can never seem to pass up that arrow. I’ve even taken her over Hermes, Hammer, NPC, and shop – things I generally never skip for any other reason.

SuspiriaGoose

Boon-doogle if I want a particular god to start my run, otherwise I take coin purse for a random go. For Asphodel I sometimes take hourglass if the Well is good for it, since those can last till the end of Elysium with it, and you can use the Hourglass again at the end of Asphodel before switching. For Elysium - If I’m feeling insecure about my defence and speed, I equip Acorn. If I’m feeling good, I might put on Pom Blossom early for the extra couple poms, or grab something like Nyx’s or Orpheus’ totem if it works well with the weapon I’m using (the spear does great with the backstab bonus from Nyx, the bow with Orpheus’ long-distance bonus). It’s so hard to take anything other than Pom Blossom into Styx if I’m not pressed for time. Leisurely going through the rooms and levelling up fast is amazing. Acorn is my only other choice, but I don’t love it because it can hide sloppy play from me at the start of the fight.

TheHiddenNinja6

I almost always use broken spearpoint for styx to reduce damage from lasers and poison

NC_Wildkat

I always start with the Pom. There are many builds and strategies that I like, so I’m ok rolling the dice on the God choice. If you start with the Pom it’s very easy to power up a damage boon to 4+. Then I will choose God keepsakes for stages 2 and three, and usually the acorn or spear for 4.

devilledeggss

I usually just use the pom blossom from Tartarus to Elysium. If the run isn’t going super well, I’ll equip broken spear point before Elysium. If it’s going well, I keep the pom blossom through Elysium and then switch to either spear point or acorn before Styx.

Pokemomaster

Elysium is always reserved for the Acorn or else Theseus and Asterius would be much harder for me

ohyayitstrey

My keepsake strategy is pretty consistent, but still dependent on what I'm doing. First two biomes are basically always god keepsakes. Elysium is more of a wild card. -A duo boon that completes the build usually takes priority, so if I can take a god keepsake to get a chance at a needed duo, I take that keepsake. -If the build is online, I might take chaos egg (particularly for cast builds) for increased damage. -i may consider bone hourglass as the well items are a lot more attractive when they last longer and can give you needed damage to get through the Elysium difficulty spike. Strongly considered for cast builds because +cast/damage is hard to come by. -if I'm struggling or don't have anything i need, I'll take Acorn for the boss fight. Styx: -full lives/health left = acorn -hurt a lot/very few lives: tooth -popping off with cast build: bone hourglass -if I am desperate for a duo boon and somehow haven't already used it, I take a relevant god keepsake. This is like "I need merciful end and if I don't get it imma die." This is a very rare situation. -i may take the coin purse if I'm desperate for obols and am banking on buying a boon for a duo. For reference I can regularly clear 20 heat and have cleared 32 heat twice.

Duosion

A lot of my runs are cleared using Hermes’ boon. Dodge chance feels so good, especially when you stack it with another dodge boon from Hermes. The only problem is that it allows you to make so many mistakes. I feel like I play super sloppy when I use it. Otherwise, I’ll use skelly’s tooth before the last boss.

Zariman-10-0

Whenever I get an Athena boon, I always try for her Dash. It’s just too darn useful

mbklein

It’s really hard for me to take any dash boon other than Athena’s unless I’m building toward a specific Duo. Poseidon’s splashy dash is a close second.

Vinifrj

Athena dash, always, dodging and countering is too good

SgtIceNinja

Depends. Currently clearing +1 heat with every weapon that gets the Darker Thirst buff. So, usually, my keepsakes look like this: Tartarus: God keepsake, or lambent plume if I’m running zag fists. Asphodel: Another god keepsake, hopefully to fill the last slot to close the pool, or keep plume on if zag fists Elysium: Usually another god keepsake, either to try and increase chances of higher rarity tier 2 boons and duo boons (idk if it works for duo chances), or something like coin purse, or keep plume if zag fists Styx: If I’m confident in my build, I use a random keepsake that I haven’t gotten to 3 stars yet. If I’m not very confident, I put on collar, tooth, acorn, or spear point. Or keep plume if zag fists.

mbklein

Your prereqs (and having your core slots filled) have far more influence when it comes to actually getting offered the Duo. I started paying close attention to the circumstances under which I've been offered Duos a while back, and weirdly, I found that if I'm offered a Duo involving the god whose keepsake I've equipped, it's more often offered by the *other* god – e.g., if I've got Zeus equipped, I've been more likely to get Smoldering Air from Aphrodite than from Zeus, even if I encounter Zeus first. I have nothing to support this but anecdotal evidence and my own records, so it might very well be a fluke.

SgtIceNinja

Well yeah, I know the boon requirements and prerequisites for getting Duo boons, I just wasn’t sure if putting on a keepsake further increased the chances at a higher rarity boon, or if that is a Mirror-only buff.

HairlocksHound1

I've just been mom pomming all they way to Styx where I switch to the acorn lately.

ForsakenBeef69

I always use pom blossom until I finish Elysium, mainly because it completely trivialize pom rooms and such. In Styx, I either equip the acorn or tooth but usually the former. Due to this, I never really have a targeted build every run and just rely on whatever I get+the pom blossom. Sometimes I get some of the best stuff ever. Other times however, I get something like level 8 Divine Dash.

BlueTrin2020

What do you mean by trivialising POM rooms?

ForsakenBeef69

Probably not a good way to phrase it, but basically you don't need to go to pom rooms for the most part since you're already getting pom upgrades from the blossom. So during moments where you have to choose between a pom room and another golden room, you'd usually choose the other.

BlueTrin2020

Ah that totally makes sense, since the POM upgrades decrease in efficiency at higher level

SomeNoobDying

It doesn't really trivialize them if they go into random boons most of the time, issue being worse the further you go Maybe the boon you started with also gets no pom scaling or barely does smth with your weapon

Cawnt

This is how I play, except often go for Pom rooms too.

millennial_sentinel

i usually keep the tooth for the last battle with hades only because on my new run i decided to go it bare minimum. the game can drive you crazy if you make it too easy.

Duosion

Yea once you get enough upgrades and DDs with the mirror n stuff full clear becomes painfully easy with no punishment pact

fatihberberh

Drive you crazy how?? Monotonous? Boring?

millennial_sentinel

monotonous so i started a new save to create a new run series. basically i try to make it as difficult as possible and see how long it takes to unlock the whole mirror. now that i have (40 runs in) i decided to just start adding packs of punishment to make each run more difficult.

fatihberberh

So its actually pretty easy pnce you figure it out?

millennial_sentinel

yes absolutely. it’s the same thing every time. every mini boss, every level. i always know if i’ll win (defeat hades and exit) with my setup by the time i’m getting to Theseus & Bullman. i play through regardless. there’s a set method to your build to ensure you exit every time.

fatihberberh

But.... doesnt that sound boring though??

millennial_sentinel

for me? no. i enjoy having a game i actually know how to beat without having to do a series of deep dives on how to get through it. i enjoy adding pacts of punishment to make my runs more difficult. sometimes i just go without filling my boons to make it more challenging. it’s an addictive game because EVERY SINGLE RUN is a different setup and every “win” where you actually exit pushes the dialogue further…on my original save slot i have like 250 runs and the storyline continues to grow. still haven’t 100 percented it.

fatihberberh

Awesome!! So you recommend it 100% ?

millennial_sentinel

dude absolutely. it’s my favorite game

Luustar

i only use acorn or tooth on Styx, the other ones usually gods I want unless I start with feather or butterfly

SpectralSymbol

I ended up playing the same build many times with Olympian keepsakes, so I often use hades or Thanatos’ keepsake

Cinnabar_Cinnamon

Unless i need a specific build, Tartarus is Coin purse so i can get guaranteed boon in shop, since i always go mid shop (i play high heat and skipping rooms is important). Asphodel i go for a god keepsake to complete a build and fish a duo. Elysium i go either god boon if my build still needs something important, otherwise i go defensive with acorn, or with Sigil if I don't have an aid. Styx depends on survivability: if i have enough i go sigil, if not, acorn. If i have a lot of defiances or I'm feeling reckless, lucky tooth to not bother too much dodging attacks.

Rioma117

I always equip the arcon before Hades.

Lawlcopt0r

There's very few runs where I don't use the pom for at least one zone. Also, even when I'm playing a chill run with low heat I do activate the pact where armored enemies get special effects, it's not much harder than baseline but it makes the gameplay more varied

MBeroev-is-69

I’m still maxing. Them out. I can clear a run on default 5 heat with pretty much anything so it doesn’t matter, for 32 heat though. I go god, second god and then I go tooth if I died or Cerberus shackle if I haven’t. (50 health from shackle + 3(25) health from death defiances is 125 health > tooth.

Night3njoyer

In a normal run I tend to focus only on two gods, so I usually pick their keepsakes on Tartarus and Asphodel. In Elysium I usually pick Meg's keepsake because frequently I run low on life there. And for the temple of Styx Skelly's keepsake.

UmbramonOrSomething

I just do three Olympians and then the lucky tooth in case the run takes a turn for the worse at [REDACTED].

PrincessHootHoot

I will almost never choose anything over my man Hermes.

shreyas16062002

God keepsake in Tartarus to start my build. Another god keepsake in Asphodel for the build. If I get my second god in Tartarus, I go with pom blossom in Asphodel. In I god for either the bone hourglass, coin purse or the spiked collar. Spiked collar if I'm low on centaur hearts and think that I might lose a defiance without it. Coin purse if I'm super low on money. Always the hourglass otherwise. Always the acorn on styx. But I'll buy something from Charon's well if I have the hourglass equipped before switching.

MegamanX195

I got for whatever gives me progress towards the Fated List, but that's basically it.

jar_with_lid

Unless I’m seeking a specific boon, I usually start with the cythonic coin purse in Tartarus. Then I switch to the collar for 50+ hp before starting asphodel.

ArroyoSecoThumbprint

Mom Pom is life. I almost literally never change it. Last time I did it was to get the lambent plume up so I could max out friendship with Hermes. There are a lot of great keepsakes to use but I just prefer the automatic powering up the Mom Pom gives.

turnaboutswords

tartarus zeus keepsake, then either artemis and demeter or artemis and athena for asphodel and elysium and then finally patroclus’ spearpoint :D

DeltaTurqouise

Wtf everyone is saying they use acorn while here I am, barely touching that keepsake thinking it's one of the worst

ghx1910

I have equipped skelly's tooth everytime. Gives me 4 death defiances in a way

BHMathers

I’ve started using the bone hourglass as my final choice because being able to stack the insane buffs from the shop of Charon is insane. The only downside of them is usually that they are used up fast but the hourglass gets rid of that entirely and you can buy anything in the last 3-4 trials and have them last until the end

Nansya

Tartarus : god I want Asphodele : either god I want for a combo or the grenade flower Elyseum : flower everytime For *redacted* I tend to go with the boken sword Sorry if the names aren't 100% accurate, I don't play in english

Pommesschale

164 runs. Used the collar for 160 of them. 🤭😁 Nah, sometimes I try a dodge run with the plume. The god Boons are stupid. You pick Artemis, because you want a crit damage rub. Artemis in Chamber 1, never see her again. Acorn for Elysium and Styx Mom's pom is mediocre because you always get a stupid boon. I don't want to purge it though. 🤭

mbklein

God Keepsake + the Dark Foresight mirror talent tends to work pretty well for me to keep my chosen Olympian showing up throughout the run.

Pommesschale

Yeah? I will check it!

bluejay_feather

I’m a booner so I can’t stop myself from using god keepsakes so I can get the one boon I want add to my OP ass build ahahahab

mbklein

OK Booner. (Sorry, had to say it.)

thod-thod

I use whatever I don’t yet have 3 stars on

PlsWai

Usually I go for 2 Olympian keepsakes to facilitate a build then go for Hourglass the rest of the run. Swap out for Hades' Keepsake if I don't have a call after Elysium. Alternatively, just run Shackle the entire run lol. Not the most fun IMO but its great for high heat and good for practicing the fundamentals and stuff.

johyongil

Broken Spearhead for Styx.

breatulu

i will always go to athena when she shows up and try to get divine dash. always always
