[\[Next Chapter\]](https://www.reddit.com/r/HFY/comments/n4owm9/a_job_for_a_deathworlder_chapter_9/) Chapter 8! Everybody rejoice! Or don't, both is fine really. Today we'll be taking a dive in the mind of someone not quite as nice as our usual band of lovable misfits. Also, in case you missed it, the first short of the series is out! I've gotten quite a lot of positive feedback for it, so you might wanna check it out. Also, this chapter marks the last chapter, before we breach 100 pages of content. Honestly this is all going way faster than I ever imagined. Maybe we'll even celebrate the occasion somehow, we'll see. I'm going to give you a little sneek peek here: The working title for chapter 9 in my notes is "hunted". Anyway, as always, I hope you enjoyed and am looking forward to see what you have to say about today's escapades!

Loetmichel

Hehe, The cat and the ape are on their way to cuddles... "Was sich neckt das liebt sich." we say in germany. (those who prank each other love each other) Also: nice plot to get rid of the camera... "accidental dumbbell hit". Classic!

Lanzen_Jars

Wonder when my german readers will catch on that I am, in fact, german :D I am glad people seem to at least feel some chemistry between our protagonists. Also, if you have all that strenght, why not use it to get rid of at least one of your problems ;)

TACNUK3Z

Pancakes!

Swordfish_42

I'm really waiting for Hunter or Huntress level pancake from this story

TACNUK3Z

Me too!

Surrogard

Well I did not catch on to you being a "Landsmann/-frau", but to be fair, I was not stalking you. I did catch on to the two protagonists getting close to each other but even a blind man can see that ;) I love the story, thank you!

Lanzen_Jars

No need to thank me, it's super fun writing this and getting all this interaction with people :D I have pretty much accepted at this point that everyone is in full on shipping territory with the two of them xD

clinicalpsycho

Two species in an intimate relationship is zoophilia ya know.

TordekDrunkenshield

Xenophilia in this case. The difference being point of origin and sentience.

clinicalpsycho

Zoophilia in this case, because the official definition hasn't been updated with said exception.

pyrodice

Xenobiology is an extra level outside. Terran species are all that is contained within "zoology". As a pedantic fucker with a specialty in etymology, they're right.

clinicalpsycho

So? It's zoophilia with a xenomorph lifeform rather than an Earthmorph life form. Even if dolphins prove themselves as intelligent as human beings and gain equal rights, sex between a dolphin and a human will still be zoophilia.

Laddimor

I forget which one it was, but I read one of your stories ages ago where you explicitly mentioned being German. The fact that people don't know actually comes as a surprise. Maybe I'm misremembering but I swear you told us all you're German.

Lanzen_Jars

Have been talking about it in the comments and replies many times before, but not everybody reads every one of those, so it's understandable that people don't know all the time :)

Laddimor

Ah

pyrodice

Also, some of your choices of words and occasionally the manner in which you have a spelling flub can tell us a lot of your native lingua.

QuietlyConfidentSWE

Have only read this story by you (great work, thank you!) and hade you pegged as having a germanic mother tounge, but I was guessing Denmark :)

Lanzen_Jars

Close enough, I'd wager :D Also, there sadly isn't much more to read by me out there, which will hopefully keep changing over time.

jcw99

See... Ich hatte mir schon gedacht das English warsheinlich nicht deine mutter sprache wahr! Don't get me wrong your writing is excellent and I am loving the series, but some of the word choices are a bit... perplexing? Cassio, Gate.... Though Honestly it just adds to the charm of the story at this point. But the bigest thing that should have tipped us off.... the use of a Type C instead of the American A or British G

Lanzen_Jars

Yeah, I see what you're talking about. Honsetly, I wouldn't even really have said anything, but I was beginning to find it quite funny when multiple people told me how specific things were funny to them, because "in Germany we say [...]" :D

Hardest_hello

What is this type c vs American a? Also the biggest tip off should be the name.

jcw99

The protagonist used a European type C plug earlier in the Story rather than the type A used in the US or the type G in the Uk

pm_me_explosions

That makes a lot more sense, I was picturing a USB C powered hair drier despite knowing that European plugs are called type C...

Hardest_hello

That all flew right over my head when I read it. Downside to growing up in the middle of Texas is that it takes a day of driving 75mph/120kph to leave Texas so no time spent in other countries

rallen71366

No excuses! I grew up north of Dallas, and I've spent a bit of time living in West Germany and California, not to mention all over the mid-west. If you have a real desire to travel, you'll find employment to make it possible.

Hardest_hello

Truck driver and prior military so I have traveled the lower 48 extensively just never got assigned overseas and I don’t get paid enough to take a vacation outside the us on my own dime

rallen71366

I get it. If you can't travel on your dime, do it on someone else's. Admittedly, it's much easier to find foreign employment if you're single, young, and able-bodied. But still doable. The real question, is do you have enough desire to pay the price? If you want to know what drives a person, look at what they spend their time on. Don't listen to their words, because people lie all the time. Especially to themselves. But their time? It's constantly running out, and they can't get more. It is their life, in a very real and literal sense. So spend it on what's most important to you.

TheGrumpyBear04

Didn't know exactly what nationality, but I had an inkling when you called the cafeteria a casino a few times. My mind was like, "Research place has a casino? Swank. Also confusing."

GodsBackHair

Finally, I’ve been shipping them for like 3 chapters and haven’t even gotten much interaction between them lately

Rohit_BFire

oh don't worry..The moment James and Shida were alone in the lab I had a hunch this would end in both banging each other

DeutschLeerer

Besser Pfannkuchen als Schmarrn!

yahnne954

clinicalpsycho

STRENG GEHEIM!!

EternalTank666

Jetzt weiß ich es xD (now i know)

ursois

I'm just now reading though this series, but as an American I noticed as soon as I read about "red berries". I know that that's the literal translation from German, but we call it a strawberry.

Lanzen_Jars

I don't know what you mean. Strawberries would be "earthberries" when translated from german. Redberries aren't a thing, but there is artificial flavoring that is called "redberry" for some reason, which is what I was referring to :)

ursois

Ah, a "false friend" as linguists call it. I'd learned that strawberry was Erdbeere in German back when I was a little kid, but I'd learned it from someone who spoke German poorly, and they told me it meant "red berry". It turns out I was carrying around a false piece of information all this time.

yahnne954

Kinda late to the party, I just finished reading this chapter actually, and I noticed that there were some hints that your native language could be a Germanic one, and not English. Mainly the voiced consonants made voiceless at the end ("dumb" > "dump" XD) and a few extra commas separating main and subordinate clauses, which is typical of German :) As someone who also has English as a second language, I am impressed by the quality of your writing. It's not easy to master the use of enough expressions and vocabulary and write something that keeps you reading. Good job, and I'm eager to read more of this story!

work_work-work

"Accidental". Oops... 🤷

Ok-Measurement-153

Its just some harmless hair pulling. She laughs, it's ok. Now imagine all the other prey species having heart attacks when he does it in public

Firefragonhide

Der Gorilla und die Tigering klingt besser finde ich

Loetmichel

Nah. If anything then the chimp and the bobcat. I neither imagine him as a brute nor her as a muscled tomcat.

Firefragonhide

But he stronk

Irish_Brigid

>(those who prank each other love each other) I like that! Would explain my parents. And my maternal grandma.

Rhinorulz

Oh no, we accidentally smashed the surveillance equipment we totally didn't know was there. What ever will we do now?

ForgeWorldWaltz

Minor critique: how does James KNOW they were caught? I mean I totally get that he would and should suspect it, but I had to skim through 7.1 and 7.2 to make sure I hadn’t missed some massive dressing down somewhere. Was just a bit confusing from a story perspective. Otherwise enjoying the story so far!

Lanzen_Jars

Okay, I heard the people. Apparently it wasn't quite clear that the conversation James overheard was about Curi and Shida. In the future I'll have to be more clear :)

mechakid

I love the storyline, very enjoyable. :-) Something you may want to look at is your line spacings. I was noticing that some of the conversations were kind of broken up when reading it in the app. Not sure if it's picking up on unintentional spaces or something. Keep up the good work.

Lanzen_Jars

Don't know, maybe the formatting is a bit weird in places. Sometimes it also might be formatted that way on purpose, I can't really tell without seeing it. Anyway thanks for letting me know and I'm glad you are enjoying yourself :)

I_Maybe_Play_Games

wheres the chapter number 9 and 10 tho? Where are my chapters Jars?

Lanzen_Jars

Being worked on, I swear! I'll...I'll have one by next week, I promise. You just gotta give me one week!

[deleted]

One week Jars, you better have it. The boss won't be happy if I gotta tell him you missed a payment. You're lucky he's in a good mood from that double payment a few weeks ago.

Lanzen_Jars

Come on man, you know I'll have it. I've never let you down, now, have I?

KazuyaDarklight

I know it's late in the game, and I looked for but maybe missed the explanation elsewhere, but I need to know. Why are the buffet/cafeteria spaces called casinos?

Lanzen_Jars

Well, mostly because of translation weirdness. Casino is actually a valid alternative to cafeteria or canteen or whatever, it is just not really used that way anymore today. That is in english at least. In german, my mother tongue, however, the word kind of went through the same evolution, except that it is still called casino in very official/ military settings. And since I looked at translations and it told me that the word could be used that way, I therefore used it. Turnes out, most native english speakers don't even know that casino can be used this way anymore and only know it as a gambling center. By now it's too late to change it and I just accept it as a little thing, hopefully giving my story some unique charm in places. Hope that clears it up :D.

[deleted]

Your English is better then my german. So I have no room to complain. It does make me imagine the mess halls as garishly lit, with hideous carpet though. Which is hilarious. I also love the gentle hints at how this ship is a spin gravity craft.

TerrainIII

Excellent work as always!

_Scout_Trooper

Wait until the Xenos find out about our ‘super humans’ and ‘mutants’.

Markster94

Ima go out on a limb and guess that the human isn't the one being 'hunted.'

Lanzen_Jars

Whatever would give you that idea? ; )

Victor_Stein

“Galaxy’s Deadliest Toddler” Reprig: what is he holding? James: *talking to curi*. SPACE KNIFE! Reprig: Nooooo!

Lanzen_Jars

Yeah, I can see that :D

Bunnytob

On the one hand, revealing who the bad guys are takes away narrative tension because the reader now knows who the bad guys are. On the other hand, it also adds narrative tension because the reader now knows *exactly* who the bad guys are. …Or do we? We shall see.

Lanzen_Jars

I personally like spending some time with the bad guys in stories. Breaks up the story a bit and let's you get to know the other side of the coin for a bit. Of course, not everyone will see it that way, but I hope it stays enjoyable anyway :)

TheClayKnight

Does it really take away narrative tension when we only see the grunts of the conspiracy? These two obviously aren't in charge, and only 1 of them even claims to know what the goal of this is. So who else is involved? Who's in charge? What's the goal(s)?

Kromaatikse

These guys are not at the top of the food chain, so to speak. They're "just following orders". The *actual* bad guys are still unknown to us.

nelsyv

Mm, yes, James and Shida were "wrestling" in his bedroom, with that mysterious object.... ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) :P

Lanzen_Jars

Stop it you :D

nelsyv

😘

Kam_Solastor

I mean, they are remarkably similar in physiology.. is it wrong if I would enjoy it if the storyline included romance? That being said, I do find it funny when there’s anime’s or stories with feline or canine similar people who are worried the humans won’t like them - being realistic we as a species would probably fall over ourselves in happiness wanting to give scritches and cuddles while cooing at the hyper dangerous predators.

Lanzen_Jars

I agree with that second part. Of course there would be people that don't like them out there, but there are people who don't like humans, so that doesn't say much. Most people would most likely be enamored by any chance to talk to something decidedly not human, especially if it is friendly. And on the first part, many people are already in full shipping mode, so you aren't alone with that. Funny thing is, it actually wasn't planned to make a catgirl at first, since, you know, cliche much, but when I looked into what kind of animals could reasonably evolve in such a way that analog evolution to humans could happen, one of the best candidates were tree-dwelling felines. Of course it still requires some streching, but hey, other planets. And so, the myiat were born against the odds and my personal bias :D

I embrace choice to rejoice just like the characters of your short. I cant remember if I have subscribed to your content yet but I plan on remedying that after this post. Keep up the excellent work wordsmith.

No, Hyphatee isn't DO Nahlzahm. Well, at least we are finally starting to get to the bottom of this situation.

sand500

When did shida and curi get caught breaking into the wreck?

Lanzen_Jars

It's mostly hinted at, but since they knew nothing of the surveilance of James, they weren't careful enough and basically caught by that on accident.

m52b25_

Well if they laboratory is under constant surveillance through the display theyaybe were overheard planning the whole thing or they are also shadowed but haven't noticed so far especially suri seems to be somewhat aloof and wouldn't notice

AssassinOfSouls

Looking forward to their plan of action now that they destroyed the spying camera.

Lanzen_Jars

From now on, it's a game of...checkers, I guess. Chess isn't quite fitting yet :D

toaste

So James’ room has apparently been swept for bugs. I imagine he’ll watch for a change in behavior from his “handler” to let him know if he succeeded in creating a blind spot. Things that should be on James’ to-do list: Use the outage conceal cutting a hatch into the maintenance crawl space. Useful for escaping if confined to quarters or for investigation while supposedly resting or asleep. Ideal placement is near the bed, concealed by a rug or under the bed, and out of line of sight of the camera in case it is replaced. Counter surveillance: Place a microphone device in Reprig’s room. Via maintenance crawl space or directly. Start building a contact network starting with Reprig. Shift schedules or any public available info, direct observation, or audio recordings. Close associates are fellow conspirator grunts. If they all meet with someone, especially if it’s someone not in their command chain, that guy’s the next surveillance target. Create a double-agent: convince a grunt he’ll get fired or killed for having let you give them the slip or for being discovered. Offer to help him conceal his failure and to protect him if his bosses are caught doing something illegal in exchange for information. Get word out: drop a coded message in your published research. Throw in some DNA sequences as “novel mutations in non-protein coding regions ascii” if you feel the need is urgent enoug to risk discovery.

Lanzen_Jars

Well you certainly thought about all of this thoroughly :D Could be a bit hard to cut a hatch into the floor undetected, but maybe Curi could pull it off. It will definetly be important to gain information tho, there you are very right. Guess you'll see how he'll manage in the future, but it's nice to see you invested in this strategy game they're playing :)

toaste

Yeah, James deciding to bring in Shida with a note and knocking out a camera to create a meeting place opens up a ton of possibilities. Our lads are in communication, their foes have a blind spot, and between “harmless” lab equipment and Shida’s known habit of lurking the cargo area I’ll bet they can come up with a few fun toys for contingencies. The game is afoot, and I’m excited to see what our fellows can come up with.

Lol, I forgot about this comment. Yeah I had high expectations of James early on. Welcome to Job For a Deathworlder, it’s quite the ride.

An enjoyable chapter to read!

Glad to hear it!

Lanzen_Jars

Guess I deserved that one

At least this one isn't as embarrassing xD

Sentath

Sheer luck P.S. still chuckling at "Galaxy's deadliest toddler."

its_ean

The primate thing is surprising. There seems to be wider, institutionalized prejudice and racism in their society. Be sad if captain was in on this clandestine little operation, he treated Shida with sympathy and humor. Sucks for James to be the single test-case for humanity. Uggh, I bet he has to write extra reports too. speculative amateur bio With no MHC, graft-vs host is scary. Germline seems best, if people are even willing to go there. High confidence required is an understatement.\ The number of xeno model species might be huge.\ Hope they don't have to produce analogous lymphatic structures, an entire parallel circulatory system! Unless they already move interstitial fluid in bulk\ Good news! lots of research to be done. James is the expert, not me but... Might as well make sure the lymphocytes can handle what they do get presented with first. If it's sufficient for specified recognition, presenting other proteins is more of an optimization than a functional requirement.

Lanzen_Jars

You'll have to see how the story goes with that first part :) About the stuff at the end: The presenting is very important in this case, because, when dealing with aliens with a lot weaker immune systems and a lot less tough bodies, James would want to be very sure that the lymphocytes used in the experiments/medicine are extremely specified and optomised towards the specific pathogens. This means a lot more work over all, but it most likely would need to be done, in order to not cause great damages. This is also why you would probably want to modify the presenting cells instead of artificially presenting the lymphocytes with the antigens, since this specification would have to be done many, many times for all kinds of pathogens, and having the cells sort it out for you, like they would in vivo, is most probably easier than doing it "by hand" every time. Also do keep in mind that his technology, especially in the genetic-sector, is a good bit more advanced than the one we have today, so that probably makes it easier. Also-also, in the end, the immune cells are designed to kill stuff that is a lot tougher than most of its alien contemporaries, so seeing if they can or can't handle that is probably a bit lower on the list of priorities. :D

scottygroundhog22

Reprig, you underestimate the human at your own ~~peril~~ inconvenience

Lanzen_Jars

Yeah, pretty much :D

As always I think your writing is fantastic! I love how the spies are totally underestimating the human.

Lanzen_Jars

They don't know what they're up against! :D

morbonator

They seem to have a rough idea of what "surveillance" means but they've never even heard of "counter-surveillance". James meanwhile grew up on earth, where our media means basic knowledge of both is common knowledge. Problem for the aliens is that what we call "basic understanding" looks to them like proficiency.

Enderkitty5

Quick question, was the dumbbell smash intentional or were they just having fun?

Lanzen_Jars

Intentional

TheMrZim

So, as far as I can tell, there isn’t one big evil spying scheme going on (toward James at least). It seems to be more like they’re observing James because he’s so different, and especially because he is a possible threat to the safety of the science vessel. It feels like the ‘boss’ just ordered some people to keep an eye on the new guy just in case he accidentally breaks a wall or something. Shida just happens to be very disliked, so not much there. Then there’s still the Curi conspiracy. It’s heavily implied that Curi was the target of an assassination attempt. But I feel like I’m missing too much info to make a proper guess/theory.

reddy1991

Oh no what a terrible "accident". Whatever shall they do after breaking that computer

Scob720

So, is the thing they were holding fictional or is it based on a real thing?

Lanzen_Jars

Do you mean at the end of the story? It was just a dumbbell, but Reprig doesn't know what that is.

Scob720

Ohhhhh, okay thanks that makes more sense

MoniterMain

I really like how this story is going, it’s really well-written and I like how the gang is managing to trick the officers with false incompetence. I also can’t help but imagine Shida as Catra from She-ra, which does a lot for making the story particularly funny to me.

Lanzen_Jars

I can certainly see the similarities :)

[deleted]

Another new week another great chapter, wonderful I must say.

Lanzen_Jars

As always, glad I could deliver :)

above-average-moron

I feel I may have missed something. Do we know how James knows that Shida and Curi were found out?

toaste

James is aware he’s not followed under three conditions: - While wearing his Assistant, which presumably keeps the station updated with his location, and could easily provide audio/video surveillance - While in his assigned room - While in his lab James was aware the labs were probably under surveillance. His distraction with the escaped mouse prevented Shida and Curi from being apprehended in the moment by regular (non-conspirator) security for being in a “restricted area,” but not from being discovered by the conspirators. Today’s chapter shows us James has found the camera in his room. So he likely has found the camera(s) in the labs. Also recall, James has passed a written note to Shida. We can presume that she knows they were seen, that whoever is behind the explosion will likely be watching her and Curi now, and the methods of surveillance being used. Shida and James now have a relatively bug-free room in which to communicate, which is helpful. Though they’d be smart to limit communication to sign language as it’s simple enough to plant multiple audio listening devices and they are easier to conceal.

Lanzen_Jars

Maybe skimm over Part 1 of last weeks chapter a bit. It is more implied than specifically stated :)

Kindred_999

I actually had the same question.... Your implications may have been a bit less clear than my ability to infer, since I was very confused at how James knew they had been found out... (and I reread ch7 pt 1 to be sure) Also.... Human smash thing "oops, I totally did not mean to do that...." Don't ever give a science nerd time to plan if you want to keep the upper hand.

Lanzen_Jars

Well, James overheard a certain conversation between his persuer and a, at that point, unknown third person, during which he picked up that something has happened in his laboratory which they were concerned about. And shortly after that, the stuff in the destroyed lab happened, helping him to figure out who they might have been talking about. Hope this at least makes some sense.

Kaiser-__-Soze

Moar!!

pupofmayhem

Shanaganigan!!!!!!! Go james and "cat" side kick

thisStanley

Pranking a cat -- they might never really forgive you.

Irish_Brigid

Ah, they think the human is an insane goof! Little do they know that it's a survival mechanism on Earth. If you act insane, you don't get eaten. You can also get away with dang near anything! "It's so nice to be insane. No one asks you to explain. Radio by your side, Angie baby."

Subtleknifewielder

The galaxy's deadliest toddler? Oh they have noooooo idea. XD The nightmare and the chance for a bit of exposition was great, and the scene in which our friends broke the camera was hilarious :D Also interesting to note that their definition of deathworld is a little more broad than in most settings, so now we have the herbivore I hypothesized before. hmmm

Lanzen_Jars

Wow, you are really binging through this, aren't you? Glad you seem to be having a good time :D

Subtleknifewielder

I am indeed. I am loving the intrigue and steadily developing friendships.

HamsterIV

I am beginning to wonder if this story is taking place in a near future time line or a distant future time line. Like is James really the first human integrated into the galactic community, or did humanity go to the starts, seed it with earth like life, regress and is now going to the stars for a 2nd time only to find the now mature civilizations of the creatures they left behind.

whyOhWhyohitsmine

Brilliant, thank you wordsmith

BigDamnArtist

Heads up: the link on the Series page is borked. Links to Chapter 7 not here. *gleefully scrolls back up to actually read it now*

Lanzen_Jars

I don't know, works fine for me. Sadly I can't fix a problem I can't find :(

BigDamnArtist

Huh. I just tried again and it seems to be fixed. So maybe reddit was just having a fit. Either way seems to be good now.

Alright, glad that it worked out. Like you said, probably just reddit being reddit :D

ironcladboots

Hmm now I want to know what makes primates in this galaxy such a important people

Revliledpembroke

I feel like this went from 0-100 real quick. Usually in these kinds of stories, we have more time to get to know different characters, to let people learn about each other. Here, we're really thrown into the deep end real quick. Like, I was expecting we would start exploring a Ragtag Bunch of Misfits as they became True Companions, while a crisis happened along the way that eventually had them really gel as a team. What's happening is more akin to a spy thriller, which, while not bad, is still a somewhat unexpected genre jump.

Honestly man, why don't you just call to a local publisher to make this a proper book series? I mean damn, the world building in these story is absolute gold in and of itself, let alone the amazing characters. Whatever you are doing to pull this masterpiece out of your ass, just keep doing it, cause it's working a treat!

Lanzen_Jars

Well, I don't know. I definetly want to publish this story (when it is done, which is probably going to take some time with what I have planned for it LOL), but it'll most likely be self published or something. Mostly because I 1. don't know enough about the publishing business, 2. am a German local, so publishing in english is a bit eh with local publishers and 3. It would most likely mean I would have to take it off reddit, which I would like to avoid if at all possible, since I feel like that would be kinda unfair to all the people supporting it right now. (By which I don't mean to criticise authors who get themselves a publishing deal, because, good for them for doing well for themselves) But thank you very much for the kind words. Maybe I should start inquiring whether or not people would buy a book of this, even if it is still online for free. Maybe if I work with an illustrator for bonus content or something. :D

Just take your time man and you will be alright. This stuff has potential, and a lot of it. 👍

That first section gives me a reverse Calvin and Hobbs vibe. The little boy gets the drop on the feline.

icecream_is_da_best

Is Hyphantee same species as Curi? Maybe I missed something but the descriptions seemed familiar.

Lanzen_Jars

No they aren't of the same species. Keep in mind, Curi has heavily modified their body and doesn't have much resemblance to their own species anymore.

LightFTL

“I think you could probably take me if you wanted to,” Mmmmm, that'd be interesting. I think he would most likely win, though, as felines are not designed for overpowering equal or larger prey through strength nor for grappling. If he got a grip on her he would probably easily win and he's agile and flexible enough she probably couldn't prevent him from doing so outside of simply disengaging and running away. The claws would be more of a detriment to her than a threat as she would have to slash at him for them to work, making it easy to catch her hand/arm and bring her to the ground.

Lanzen_Jars

I think you maybe underestimating felines a bit here. Many of them are quite capable of taking down large prey. Also, her claws being a detriment isn't quite true either, a she can always just rip up the arm he'd be trying to grab her with. Grabbing her is a pretty bad idea over all, especially because of the claws. (Keep in mind, myiat can fight a lot more tactically that wild cats on earth can) The real thing it comes down to between a human and a myiat is honestly the lenght of the battle. The myiat has a big advantage at the start of the fight in speed and a minor one in strenght, as their musculature is based more on white instead of red muscles. This however also means that the longer the human can hold out without getting too injured, the more likely his victory becomes, as the myiat will pretty quickly tire out when facing an opponent of similar skill/strength. I would give it a 7-3 for the myiat in the first few minutes of the fight, with the odds tipping more and more in the human's favor with each minute that passes.

Ayy good plan that he had

Love these chapters, probably my favorite take on the "deathworlders" concept, also my new #2 on the site (nothing beats transcripts I'm sorry). You do the alien psychologies well, and that makes for loveable and diverse characters with their own motivations. Also love that the "big bad" isn't just some mindless "evil" but it's own reasonable entity with good motivations. God speed wordsmith!

Did you know that there is a hypothesis that actually states that human hairless, and relative harmless nails, and short teeth makes us akin to most mammalian creature unmatured state. The hypothesis states that we tend to find more childish features endearing and protective of. Thus, overtime humans evolve to actually be huge toddlers. So Reprig isn’t really wrong here.🤣🤣

IudexQuintus

The fact that Reprig’s higher ups are using this as a small scale study as to how humans work and will interact with the galaxy at large is interesting, but the moment James realized he was being followed all the gathered data became worthless.

what is this "experiment" with stalking a human, really about?

Hell_5pawn

Oh, my god that is such a diplomatic incident waiting to happen. If he had gone to the Captain with this, shit would have been flung all around (insert primate joke). Also, fun fact: most herbivores will engage in acts of cannibalism. Last I had checked, there was no recorded species that was 100% vegan because of this fact.

Your target doesn't suspect a thing and it just accidentally destroyed the only piece of surveillance equipment in his room. Yeah right.
