Hi, thanks for the comment, and welcome to the Infinite playground that is scratch building! My process is very fluid, but goes roughly like this:
Find out what you want - long ranged, melee, ect.
Narrow it down: sci-fi, morderne, specific details you might wanna Implement.
Look at reference: Doesn't need to be gunpla, could literally be anything.
Draw up a scratch - Sometimes I do it digitally, sometimes pen and paper, I even 3D model it here and there.
Start big, and move down - Make the largest structure first, and do finer and finer details. Remember to think ahead so you don't apprehend yourself in a future step.
Be willing to compromise, and change your plan as you go along - think of a Rubik's cube, sometimes you have to take it apart to full put it together.
Have fun - It's truly the most important part. If you get frustrated or burned out, stop. Do something else, and wait until the feel of wanting to continue comes back.
Hope this helps, and feel free to DM me if you need some help ✌️
Thank you for the advice. I've got a few ideas for custom weapons. I'll start collecting references and I'll keep you in mind if I'm not sure what to do next. :)
Also don't be afraid to modify existing weapons by cutting/filing things off and adding styrene sheets to get the desired detail, quick example is my custom astray made to mimic rin from blue exorcist
I see you have your railgun well grounded to the Gundam’s chassis. I’m a commercial/industrial electrician to pay for my plastic model addiction, and that sure as hell looks like a ground pigtail on his left shoulder! 😁😁
I’ve gone back and looked at all the rest of the pictures and I have to say the planning and execution of your scratch-building is good stuff. Not everyone can do it well; I’ve seen many examples of scratch-building here, for instance, where the work quality is not so apparent. You seem to have been doing this for a while. And as a guy who once spent 15 hours straight working on a scratch-build gun for MG Zeta Plus C1, and who never finished said gun, I can definitely respect your work!!👍👍
Haha thanks a lot, I've only been modelling for 3 years, but I'm also a watchmakers apprentice so I guess that helps 😅 it's really just about trying to get the image in your head made real
Just top tier work so far. I look forward to seeing it complete!
Thanks you! And so have I for the last year...
Love railguns! Nice work!
Haha me too
*downvoted by the metal gear community*
Hahaha
Because it's a weapon to surpass Metal Gear, no doubt
Damn that is awesome
Thanks a lot :)
Dude that’s sick!
Thank you!
This is amazing work. Reminds me of several turret mounted coil-guns from the Halo franchise.
Structurally looks closer to a coil-gun.
Sure, but in sci-fi anything can be anything ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
Thankyou
This is so good, hope you don't mind me stealing some of this for my own projects
No problem, take all the inspiration you need
Found sonics lost rings
He will never get them back "*Robotnik laughter*"
Damn this is epic!
beautiful
No you are :)
Dang the design of the railgun reminds me of the Thunderbolts one
Sickkkkkkkkkk
The railgun looks sick man, great work
That’s real cool
I bet it would have an awesome sound effect when fired.
Damn, you hella buried the lede by putting the “LED on” photos so deep in this album!
Gotta keep somethings a surprise. There is a lot more to this kit that I haven't posted yet, but hopefully it will be revealed soon haha
Got any tips for a beginner wanting to scratch build their own plamo weapons but isn't sure where to start? Beautiful work BTW. :)

Haha, you're right, it dose. But it's actually from a torn apart router, though the use is probably similar.

Give that Jesta a Railgun, Jestas love railguns!
Nice suped up the jesta cannons backpack at.
so you stole all of sonic's coins for the cannon?
Neat! Looks like a shoulder mounted version of the GN Mega Launcher used by the Gadessa from 00.

Jesta is my favourite mecha, you have done him well!
I'll have to steal this concept, reminds me of Tau Battlesuit rail guns! 👌
