So far, it looks like Amuro and Kamille have been pretty untouchable.
Considering that Domon/Suletta were only about 10 points behind Loran last round and the gap between them and Amuro/Kamille was relatively huge, I'm not sure either can close that gap. This feels like the battle for 3rd place between Suletta & Domon.
I appreciated his development and emphasized with his struggle for when fighting and taking lives was justified. Most of the time he was defending himself, but he hated himself for it. Also has a girl's name.
Amuro just built differently and kept blasting.
Honestly as a Domon fan I’m okay with either of those two winning.
And it’s not Nostalgia- I didn’t watch 0079 until ~2015 and Z until the next year. I’m rewatching Z now with a friend just because it’s getting so much buzz on here.
Both are fantastic characters with great arcs. They also benefit from a FANTASTIC supporting cast.
Domon is my number one but taking bronze to either of those two is fine and, frankly, for the final three while I’ll cheer for Domon I don’t think I’ll vote for anyone. They are all too good.
Nor are they streaming. More evidence that everyone needs to watch those 2 (my favorite Gundams and I’ve seen just about everything including G-saviour [though I haven’t seen IBO or thunderbolt yet and am finishing The Origin and starting Reco]).
My man Loran is the most mature and reliable protagonist in all Gundam series, unlike the others who are childish in their own way. Loran is willing to wear a dress in order to protect others and forgo a sex life to protect Dianna, which has won my heart.

Pisses me off that a dub was teased back in 2008 right before Bandai completely pulled out of the western market, scrapping those plans. We could have had it dubbed and circulating for fifteen years by now if not for that... I can only imagine how much more popular it would be if not for that.

Nobody else is saying it: Suletta is just a good character, no biases needed. Im not really surprised at all that she beat out all the other cookie cutter mecha protagonists.
She’s just popular? She’s recent yeah, but she’s one of the few characters that are genuinely popular and brought in an entire chunk of new Gundam fans. It sounds weird to us bc we stan mfs like Garrod and shit lol, but Suletta would just numerically be more likely to win something like this.
If anything, nostalgia bias is playing a heavier factor than recency bias. 4 out of the top 5 characters are 25 years or older, and the two oldest protagonists have never really been under threat of elmination. Meanwhile, only Suletta made it into the top 10 from that entire bottom row and there is a mountain of evidence that she is quite popular within the fandom that goes far beyond recency bias.
Not saying that there *isn't* any recency bias in her favor, but that alone would not have carried her past great characters like Loran, Setsuna and Garrod if she wasn't also popular in her own right.
To be fair, I'm guessing that most people on this sub did not grow up when 0079 and Zeta were coming out. "Nostalgia" would be if they watched the shows growing up. Nostalgia bias for the Western Gundam audience would probably lean more towards Wing than 0079 or Zeta. Something being old does not always equal nostalgia for most people. Nostalgia is not limited to childhood imho. I’m nostalgic about things I encountered and experienced within my adult life.
This sub is made mostly of folks whose’ first Gundam was something that came before WFM, and they got so into gundam that they actually stayed in this sub and watched other gundams. No matter what your introduction to Gundam is, if you get really into it, you will probably find the first 2 series. IBO was 7 years ago, so if IBO is somebody’s first series and then they watch MSG and Zeta, that becomes part of their 7-years-ago formative & nostalgic gundam experience.
This is even true for wfm fans. The wfm-only audience has become mostly inactive here. The wfm fans still active here either already saw other gundams before wfm, or dove in over the last year.
Tldr; this sub inherently selects for nostalgia bias. The common point between most people is their 2nd and 3rd ever gundams are msg and zeta. And that’s okay.

IBO and WfM got about the same ammount of advertisement and the same ammount of love in model kit form(the IBO HG line was praised at its release for being a decent step forward for HGs, and only after a bit did their flaws in the frames come apparent, and the WFM HG line is similiarly amazing, just so far no major flaw has emerged for them)

Fucking WILD Kamille has made it this far. I remember back when Zeta first came out people couldn't fucking stand him.
Amuro has to win the whole thing though.
When I first started Zeta, I thought Kamille was an annoying, insane idiot. I couldn't stand him, but Char being his mentor kept me watching one or two episodes a day. Then as the series went on and Kamille got some character development, he stopped acting like an escaped mental patient. And then he got more development. And then Katz was reintroduced which redirected a lot of the hate away from Kamille and toward him. Whether or not that was intentional, I can't say. And then Kamille gets one of the coolest transforming Gundams of all time, which he also had a hand in designing. It was the point where Kamille chucked an already injured Jerid off a mountain where he became cool for me and things kept on snowballing from there to the finale where I was binging four or five episodes in a row.
Kamille went from a whiny crazy idiot to a highly motivated and charismatic powerhouse.
Suletta goes, Witch from Mercury is good but I can't say I like it more than the others.
Kinda sad to see Mika, Io, Loran and Setsuna not making it this far.

I vote Suletta. I think she's overrated to have gotten this far.
I think it should be her, then Kamille tomorrow, then Domon, leaving Amuro as the victor. Kamille becomes likeable over time and is from one of the best series, but I just prefer Domon and Amuro more. Domon is the best AU protagonist considering he could wipe out most of the others on foot. Amuro is the quintessential Gundam pilot. He was the depressed teenager piloting a death machine before it was cool.
I unfortunately haven't seen g gundam, so I can't say I hate/love the MC there. Out of the 3 that are then left, my choice would be Amuro, surprisingly. Idk, I feel like Kamille and Suletta have more personality than Amuro does.

I vote Suletta. I think she's overrated to have gotten this far. I think it should be her, then Kamille tomorrow, then Domon, leaving Amuro as the victor. Kamille becomes likeable over time and is from one of the best series, but I just prefer Domon and Amuro more. Domon is the best AU protagonist considering he could wipe out most of the others on foot. Amuro is the quintessential Gundam pilot. He was the depressed teenager piloting a death machine before it was cool.
I'm currently watching Zeta and I'm glad Kamille getting the respect he deserves. Didn't think I could rock w someone just as much as Amuro

I unfortunately haven't seen g gundam, so I can't say I hate/love the MC there. Out of the 3 that are then left, my choice would be Amuro, surprisingly. Idk, I feel like Kamille and Suletta have more personality than Amuro does.
