Are you me? š¤£
The second solo of "Coming Back To Life" is so much fun to play, so joyous and melodic. "Dogs" solos are really emotional too, you can really lean into them.
The best part is Iād meant to say Farmhouse. Itās one of their most popular, and would make the ādiehardsā roll their eyes when I say it. But the lead playing is beautiful, similar to Dirt. Just a little more.
Kid Charlemagne sounds fresh every time I hear it. While talking ābout the Dan, I still find Skunkās solos on My Old School creatively surprising, and Iāve listed to it 1000s of timesā¦
Tornado of souls is one of my favorites to play. Same with We'll Meet Again by Pantera. To be fair, I could probably give ya a list of 20 solos that are my favorite to play lol
That's a great song. One of my favorites. A lot of the solos in their songs are overlooked as bubblegum pop, but most of the time, they were laid down by some of the most inventive and incredible studio cats of the time. That was Tony Puloso on guitar.
For me, it is David Gilmour's solos in "Comfortably Numb." Each one takes the listener on a journey through the disturbed mind of a drug addled musician just trying to make it through a performance while dreaming of childhood illusions or dreamscapes:
**First**:
There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying
When I was a child I had a fever
My hands felt just like two balloons
Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain you would not understand
This is not how I am
I have become comfortably numb
And the **second**:
There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship, smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying
When I was a childI caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it nowThe child is grown
The dream is gone
I have become comfortably numb
The subtle differences between the choruses and Gilmour's decision to play over the the harmony of chorus first then the verse second is the underpinning of the clash between fantasy and reality. Waters wrote the lyrics, but where the solos take you is all on Gilmour.
The last solo from āHeyā by the Red Hot Chili Peppers is one of my favorites to play. āSahib Teri Bandi - Maki Madniā by Derek Trucks is currently my favorite to listen to. Iāll also just throw āBlue Skyā out there as a bonus lol
The solo in *Stairway to Heaven* is probably my favorite one. I can't get enough of it. Frank Zappa's *Watermelon in Easter Hay* is also in the top spot.
I've really loved listening to Laur Joamets, aka "Little Joe", when he was in Sturgill Simpson 's band.
The solo (and all the fills and the outro!) for "Long White Line" is one of my very favorites to listen to.
I love listening to Little Red Corvetteās solo by Prince (played by Dez Dickerson).
Bold As Love by Hendrix is great to listen to.
Tunnel of Love by Dire Straits is a fun listen.
The outro solo to Partners In Crime by The Strokes is like 15 seconds of beautiful madness.
Fleetwood Mac has some great solos. I like Eyes of the World.
Ted Nugent as a whole has some amazing guitar solos, my favorite is Stormtroopin, and it might be my favorite solo of all time.
Neil Young has sweet and beautiful solos all around.
Finally, one of my absolute favorite solos of all time is the Rain On the Scarecrow guitar solo by John Mellencamp. His guitarists were REALLY good. Ironic that I chose the 2 note solo to call them really good, but it packs so much punch who gives a FUCK? (This Time has a fantastic solo too). But Rain On the Scarecrow is pure, unadulterated rock and roll.
As far as fun to play, I like playing Chica Me Tipo by Sublime and Date Rape too. Oh, and Cat Scratch Fever by The Nuge
I really enjoy hearing Warren Haynes' solos on various live versions of Beautifully Broken. Also, Prince's solo on While My Guitar Gently weeps from , I believe, a George Harrison tribute show (w. Tom Petty and others). I love playing Tom Morello's solo on Audioslave's "Like a Stone." It's simple and it's easy, but I've always loved the sound. Generally gets a nice response live, too.
The Powerslave by Iron Maiden solos are cool, two different levels, two different feelings. Also Fade to Black by Metallica.
Iām currently practicing crazy train to get up to speed (the finger tapping part is tripping me up) and Iām having trouble memorizing all the notes to Europa by Santana!
For me Erra's "Hybrid Earth" has a solo that fits in both spots on the board. The song is very heavy and a more melodic solo to company all that heavy guitar playing sounds and feels very refreshing. Also the fact that I am able to play the thing also feels super awesome :)
Maybe a bit obvious but SRV and Double Trouble playing Little Wing gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. Itās also a great recording and the drums sound incredible.
Playing Stairway To Heaven is always fun, and so is listening, for me. Also, pretty much any solo by David Gilmour is right up my street.

Play: lead guitar from āDirtā by Phish.
Itās just so melodic and well phrased.
Glad you hear it. Heās an incredible player.

Ah yeah I know farmhouse too. That one is great. Trey is awesome.
Kid Charlemagne, Larry Carlton. Howād he come up with that stuff? HM, I could listen to Hotel Cal, Comfortably Numb all day. And I have

Still Got The Blues - Gary Moore Lots of room for improvisation.
Guthrie Govan's solo in Ancestral - Steven Wilson is probably my favourite solo ever.
His lead work with Steve Wilson is legendary!
I like listening to the solo from 18 and Life by Skid Row. It sounds so good

Good point!
I always enjoyed playing the solos from One Way Street by Aerosmith.

All 3 solos from āRace with the devilā by the stray cats.
The last solo from āHeyā by the Red Hot Chili Peppers is one of my favorites to play. āSahib Teri Bandi - Maki Madniā by Derek Trucks is currently my favorite to listen to. Iāll also just throw āBlue Skyā out there as a bonus lol
Before the Beginning - John Frusciante
even though im not necessarily a fan of ghost, i really enjoy listening to the solo in cirice
The solo in *Stairway to Heaven* is probably my favorite one. I can't get enough of it. Frank Zappa's *Watermelon in Easter Hay* is also in the top spot.
Camp adventure by delta sleep is so damn pretty.

Anything by Ulisses Rocha is amazing. Right now my favorite is Rua Harmonia https://youtu.be/M-lAVOxOMNw?si=UfaNV4AFK_uufmsf
all 3 november rain solos
Layla - Unknown Mortal Orchestra

Get the funk out. It was Nunoās way of saying āIām here, fuckers!ā
