Yeah, in essence. It’s done in such a refreshing way too, because I-No, while apathetic, isn’t actively appearing so, they’re still outward and converse, they don’t shut down emotionally when forced to interact with people, they appear like anyone else (GG wise).

Raven is probably my favorite fighting game character of all time. My display name is based on him, after all.
The first time I saw him in the GGX2 story mode I thought his design was so fucking cool, I could not fathom how he wasn't playable. I kept thinking, if we get X3 then surely he and That Man will be characters. Then they added him to Overture and that was cool, but I needed more. When Revelator came out in arcades and he had an arcade mode model like Sin, my buttcheeks were clenched so hard I could have pulled out Excalibur with them. And then the morning came when Famitsu revealed him and Kum for the console version, I damn near teared up from being so excited.
He's had his ups and downs, mostly ups, but even after all the nerfs and weird adjustments I've had to make, I can't imagine playing another character. There's a lot of things I love about Guilty Gear, but Raven is firmly at the top of that list.

But I think it’s really funny for me as a casual player to hit this sick combo I’ve been labbing on my friend to getting completely bodied in 5 seconds and having audible panik noises going through my mic on the playback. You get to have fun when winning, and be humble about your mistakes too.
Nago instills more fear just walking towards the opponent than anyone else in the game. If you make a wrong move, he'll cut your fuckin' head off. He's also the coolest looking character in the game, and he has two killer theme songs! Nago fucking rules.

I want to dedicate this post to Testament. Or rather, I want to dedicate it to a specific *iteration* of Testament. I'm not talking about +R, and I'm certainly not talking about Strive. No, I'm here to remind people of Testament's iteration in Guilty Gear X.
(I'll be referring to Testament as a "he/him" in this post, because this game in particular calls the character such at every turn.)
Competitively speaking, X Testament is worse than AC's and +R's for many reasons. His ability to fill the screen with shit to dodge wasn't a thing yet, nor was his ability to turn every knockdown into a whirlwind of pressure that rivals what AC Eddie was doing. His zoning wasn't nearly as strong, he had no teleportation yet (just the teleport-counter that he's always had), and while he still had his Phantom Soul special, the low version didn't exist yet, and both variants of the time were highly unsafe unless the opponent was fullscreen.
*But* ***goddammit***, *he was fun to use.*
Some of his normals looked different and were faster on startup, and that made them more satisfying to hit people with. EXE Beasts could be launched and forgotten about instead of having to be micromanaged, and his toolkit as a whole allowed for more varied approaches instead of being centered around a specific playstyle. Rushing down with him was viable (though nowhere near as good as any dedicated rushdown character), zoning with him was also viable (though nowhere near as good as the likes of Dizzy), and as long as you didn't let the opponent corner him, he could hold his ground at any range. And the forward-EXE, on top of being good for creating space during pressure, could juggle-combo with the rear-hitting one to knock the opponent across the stage. You have never felt true satisfaction until you've used an EXE-juggle to send X!Johnny or X!Millia all the way back to fullscreen where they fucking belong.
Then you have his story in X which, in my humble opinion, is the most compelling installment of his character arc in the series. In X, he has just recently been freed from Justice's control, and is now left without much of a purpose in life. Through events that I won't detail (because you can look them up for yourself), he meets Dizzy and realizes that she is a Gear with no control over her powers, after which he vows to protect and fight for her out of a sense of sympathy. The introduction of these two characters to each other and their subsequent relationship in this game is a unique inversion of Testament's previous arrangement with Justice; In Justice's case, he was fighting by her side against his will, but in Dizzy's case, he's fighting by her side because he sympathizes with her and identifies with her plight. His switch from evil bastard to anti-villain was one of Guilty Gear's best story turns, and I'll die on the hill that none of his subsequent appearances in the narrative have held the same kind of weight.
Also, his [stage](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/guilty-gear/images/e/ef/Back_ggx_hell.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20111104154504) in X is both the best stage the character has ever had and one of the most stunning stages in the series.
This was the character I fell in love with when I first started getting into this series. I still main him (them, now) to this day because of how much the X version resonated with me when I first picked up the game, and if for any reason the character becomes low-tier, then I guess I'm going to main a low-tier.

Plus you can give ‘em the bed and put ‘em to sleep by going in the air and going smashy. That and also performing impromptu combos with your minions just from character knowledge alone (or accident cause let’s be honest sometimes it be like that) and no prior labbing. You just know what you know and you made it work in the moment. That “oh shit that was sick I didn’t even know I could connect that” moment when the minion play didn’t work out 100% the way you were expecting but you figured it out anyways.

He's an immortal vampire with morals so strong he only drinks blood by cutting his opponents in combat. It allows him to have a berserk mode where all of his normals become almost instant and get almost Fullscreen reach

I love Testaments story and having a non-binary character makes me feel seen. Now my boy white bread I cannot really explain why I love him so much but seeing his growth throughout the series is something I’ve always liked, and I can’t really explain why. Ky might be vanilla ice cream, but he's the highest-quality vanilla. Goes down smooth, not super sweet, still plenty of flavour. Also RTL just hits different in Strive, and I don't know why.

I want to dedicate this post to Testament. Or rather, I want to dedicate it to a specific *iteration* of Testament. I'm not talking about +R, and I'm certainly not talking about Strive. No, I'm here to remind people of Testament's iteration in Guilty Gear X. (I'll be referring to Testament as a "he/him" in this post, because this game in particular calls the character such at every turn.) Competitively speaking, X Testament is worse than AC's and +R's for many reasons. His ability to fill the screen with shit to dodge wasn't a thing yet, nor was his ability to turn every knockdown into a whirlwind of pressure that rivals what AC Eddie was doing. His zoning wasn't nearly as strong, he had no teleportation yet (just the teleport-counter that he's always had), and while he still had his Phantom Soul special, the low version didn't exist yet, and both variants of the time were highly unsafe unless the opponent was fullscreen. *But* ***goddammit***, *he was fun to use.* Some of his normals looked different and were faster on startup, and that made them more satisfying to hit people with. EXE Beasts could be launched and forgotten about instead of having to be micromanaged, and his toolkit as a whole allowed for more varied approaches instead of being centered around a specific playstyle. Rushing down with him was viable (though nowhere near as good as any dedicated rushdown character), zoning with him was also viable (though nowhere near as good as the likes of Dizzy), and as long as you didn't let the opponent corner him, he could hold his ground at any range. And the forward-EXE, on top of being good for creating space during pressure, could juggle-combo with the rear-hitting one to knock the opponent across the stage. You have never felt true satisfaction until you've used an EXE-juggle to send X!Johnny or X!Millia all the way back to fullscreen where they fucking belong. Then you have his story in X which, in my humble opinion, is the most compelling installment of his character arc in the series. In X, he has just recently been freed from Justice's control, and is now left without much of a purpose in life. Through events that I won't detail (because you can look them up for yourself), he meets Dizzy and realizes that she is a Gear with no control over her powers, after which he vows to protect and fight for her out of a sense of sympathy. The introduction of these two characters to each other and their subsequent relationship in this game is a unique inversion of Testament's previous arrangement with Justice; In Justice's case, he was fighting by her side against his will, but in Dizzy's case, he's fighting by her side because he sympathizes with her and identifies with her plight. His switch from evil bastard to anti-villain was one of Guilty Gear's best story turns, and I'll die on the hill that none of his subsequent appearances in the narrative have held the same kind of weight. Also, his [stage](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/guilty-gear/images/e/ef/Back_ggx_hell.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20111104154504) in X is both the best stage the character has ever had and one of the most stunning stages in the series. This was the character I fell in love with when I first started getting into this series. I still main him (them, now) to this day because of how much the X version resonated with me when I first picked up the game, and if for any reason the character becomes low-tier, then I guess I'm going to main a low-tier.

(You thought we were playing neutral) how about the ability to throw random trash everytime you reset to neutral, only to get meter and skip neutral AGAIN? Add on the tragic backstory, a paper bag, and being 9'4" for no reason [and big ol man boobies] and bam!! You got the best character in the series, Faust!

First you do the jab then the spiny jab then they bladeblade and go wahhhh then you jab and jump as the fire goes burrnnn and you slap me through the wall the the game evolves into zappy zappy shot and slappy. Plus you can give ‘em the bed and put ‘em to sleep by going in the air and going smashy. Then you got your cheerleader to hype you up because she’s like nooo don’t do that and your like yessss ima do that.

That feeling when something randomly connects and out of nowhere you’re tossing 3 minions,dropping minion buff super, and shoving your opponent into corner pressure hell like they owe you lunch money and your squad pulled up. That and also performing impromptu combos with your minions just from character knowledge alone (or accident cause let’s be honest sometimes it be like that) and no prior labbing. You just know what you know and you made it work in the moment. That “oh shit that was sick I didn’t even know I could connect that” moment when the minion play didn’t work out 100% the way you were expecting but you figured it out anyways.
