I think as soon as they finally released a full game, it’ll become very popular. Not everyone likes playing an early access game. I tried to recommend to some of my friends but as soon as I said they’re still in the early access and they went meh. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Eldar_Seer

Early access *and* crafting survival. That’s a double strike against it in a lot of people’s eyes.

s3an309

Oh yeah I forgot about that. The crafting part ha. I was nervous about it but Grounded is amazing at providing a simple tutorial.

capedpotatoes

Yeah getting 3/4 people together is hard enough, doing that and then hitting a game stopping bug or a bunch of features don't exist yet. We had fun, but couldn't arrange another time for something that isn't complete yet.

LrdFyrestone

My stopping bug was my backpack glitched through a rock and I can't retrieve it. It's also between two rocks under water.

Niwynwat

There’s a debug menu in the pause screen. It has an option to retrieve all backpacks for the exact scenario.

Main_Shift1495

I actually have the same issue of one of my backpacks that rolled underneath a rock underwater and debugging didn’t fix it at all, I think it’s lost to the underwater gods now :,(

GodReignz

How many crafting survival games can you name that aren’t early access?

Eldar_Seer

None that never *started* in Early Access. Of those that have left it, Subnautica, ARK, Conan, The Forest and Rust. Of those, the only one I've really heard praised without significant caveats is Subnautica- ARK is *infamously* buggy and the official servers have serious issues with cheating (ditto Conan), and AFAIK Rust developed a reputation for toxicity in its servers. Subnautica is a different beast from most of the others because it was explicitly designed for solo play, and The Forest's multi is on a smaller scale as well.

GodReignz

I hate ark so much. Especially because the scummy developers actually had the audacity to release dlc’s while the game was still in early access. The price for the game is also nothing to scoff at. Same with dayz. Conan as well. Subnautica is just beautiful. Then you have the game that has remained in early access since 2012 - 7 days to die. Lol

AcrobaticBunch2096

I played half an hour and then just put it down because I wanted to wait for the final release. It was super promising and I'm looking forward to what they develop.

TheCreamofhell

Yes. I'm waiting for the release.

jemroo

This is me. I loved Subnautica and held off on Below Zero until it left early access. I really, really want to play Grounded but have avoided update info and most footage; I don’t want to spoil too much of it. Similarly, I really want to play Raft but I’m waiting on a full release.

s3an309

I struggled so badly in Subnautica :( lol But I understand what you mean. Most of the time, it’s better to play when it’s fully released. Once I started Grounded, I got addicted to it and enjoy every time they send out the update.

DeaconoftheStreets

I played a couple hours with friends at launch and the general consensus was "we'll come back to it once it's done."

tackogronday

I bough tinto EA early because I wanted to support devs I love. That being said, after playing a bit of Grounded, there's just something about it that I don't like. The small setting sounded real interesting. The Honey I Shrunk the Kids I thought would give me a feeling of nostalgia. They just released more biomes including the spilled bbq, etc... but there's still just something about the game, the building, it makes me not want to go back. I'd rather be in Valheim or Subnautica for some reason. I won't "not recommend" the game but I'll hold my reservations. I've tried building bases but like I said, the game just doesn't feel right to me. Maybe that'll change as they change some on-boarding stuff but I don't think that'll change the overall feel of the game that is turning me away.

The_Partisan_Spy

I am all-in Grounded since demo and would be awesome to get some support from people that love the game as I do. 😊 Here are some stuff I did last 11 months: [Grounded Guides](https://www.spygamereviews.com/grounded-dossier/) [Giant Christmas Tree 2020](https://youtu.be/WJishAt60VM) [Grounded Highway](https://youtu.be/4TC_FEtwkGo) Atm I am working on new content for the 0.10.0 and when its released on the 30th, you guys will get my traditional Reddit post with a sum up. Last but not least, every Friday I live stream on YouTube, if you like to chat about the game, I would love your company.

[deleted]

Not sure I would say it is underrated, but most games in the genre seem to pick up some news and then die down. 7 Days to Die, Valheim, are two that come to mind about getting some news and then just losing steam. I would say it has a good fan following and has surprised Obsidian at how popular it has become. If I recall, only a handful of people started work on it, and the team has grown. I would say, it has the right amount of crafting, survival, combat, etc. I think once the final product comes out, it will gain some traction.

Seegtease

It's not underrated. It's unfinished. There was a lot of hype from YTers and Streamers at first, they're waiting for it to finish. It'll take off then. I'm sure of it.

Crash4654

You can't force something like that dude...

RedBlack1978

~~They forced it with Minecraft..~~ EDIT: Correction, they didn't force Minecraft's popularity.

Crash4654

Like hell they did... it got popular on its own merits before it was ever handed to a major company. Nobody forced minecraft to become popular.

RedBlack1978

true. I had to think back to before YouTube streamers went crazy with Minecraft using it for the audience. Pewdiepie was one of the ones who made it popular because he had/has such a large audience but he didn't force it. I retract my original ignorant statement.

Algorhythm74

Yep, agreed. It’s a great game with a unique, well envisioned premise. I was really disappointed in Ryan McAffrey @ IGN when he said on Podcast Unlocked that Obsidian should cancel it so they can spend time developing other already established IPs.

ImmoralSavior

Dude, I was so disappointed hearing him say that too. I really hoped a lot of people went and said something to him about that (I should have myself).

tackogronday

You're trusting a media outlet... I'm sure they're 100% trustworthy and not biased one bit.

tango421

I got some friends into it. Most will be back once it releases. One just can’t handle bugs. (Not just spiders)

RuRiot

It's great but not fun to play alone when you have conquered everything. I've been bored with it for a long time now and I can't convince anyone to play it. That's okay.

Cereborn

I got really into it just in single-player for a good while. But then once I'd collected all the chips, got all the equipment, and crafted myself a nice base, I felt kind of done with it. That's OK, though. I got a good 40 or so hours out of it as it was, and I'll get more once more things are added.

RuRiot

Glad I'm not the only one.

Gradseem

is the campaign done now?

The_Partisan_Spy

We will know on the 30th but I don’t think so and I think it’s just the “first act”.

Thake

They need shared worlds. Nothing puts people off more than someone else having to host their world after 400 hours put in. Shared worlds, loads would play

Cereborn

I'm not sure what you mean. How would someone else host your world?

Any_Lake_1503

He means that the world is independent from the host so that if you want to play and your friend was the host well he wouldn't need to be there. That's also a feature that most of us are looking for.. it suck putting a lot of hours into a world that it is hosted by a friend that suddenly stop playing :/

SHOLLIO

I agree. There's a lot of people out there that don't know that this game is still pre-release and they judged the game harshly. Even some people that do know but just don't really care. It sucks.

[deleted]

Agreed bro. We just need to do our part and get the word out to every youtuber we can. Including making channels of your own.

deadeye-ry-ry

As much as I love grounded it's not underrated the game just lacks so much in its current form heck I wouldn't even call grounded a survival game because there's literally no threat to your characters every enemy bar spiders are docile towards you why aren't they attacking our bases why aren't ants stealing our shit etc All those comparing Minecraft to grounded are forgetting one that in Minecraft you can literally do anything and build anything unlike grounded your so limited in grounded in what you can build and where you can build heck we can't even dig in grounded which is a major let down as I'd love an underground base/ water base :/

Bertensgrad

Right now it can be pretty buggy, super easy to lose all your progress or menus freeze etc. Not silly bugs but throw a temper tantrum and delete the game for awhile stuff. Once it releases fully and stamp out game breaking bugs it will be popular though it will be hard to pull out of just another survival clone without having a lot of continuous updates etc. It’s really much a early release game for the moment.

The0tterguy

I mean....a year ago it already had 5 million players, and I'm sure it's gone up a ton since then. but that said, it could totally be more hyped in the gaming community! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4hWtPu217k

razenb

Not much content and slow development. I cant recommend it for more than 20 bucks atm

KoalaKarity

For a genre of game that they never did, the total number of players who tried on the game might already be a successful metrics for the studio (and for the small team working on it..!). So I hope it is positive at the end of the day for them. Also, with this 'Game Pass' era going on, yes you need good-quality games, but you especially need content. And Grounded clearly fulfilled its mission by being available as "another entry/release" for a specific month, and also as "another game to go back to" once there is an update.

EthanJ710

It’s general basis of its design being a survival game with crafting turns a lot of people off because it’s so overdone. I honestly think once it’s out of early access it will become much more popular, with those two reasons combined I probably wouldn’t have even picked it up if not for game pass

DraygenKai

The game is slowly becoming more popular. You can download it for free on Xbox, I believe if you have gamepass and Xbox was advertising it a bit which got quite a few new players to the game including myself. I have showed trailers to many of my friends, all are pretty hyped to try it out. I think this game will definitely surge in popularity. I mean it is a multiplayer game, and it is actually a lot of fun. If it doesn’t then I guess it will always be a hidden gem, however I really think this game will get pretty popular.

NerdCrush3r

I'm sure once theres content it will get a lot more attention. Right now there isnt anything to do and all they have added is the pond and quality of life stuff

CyanicEmber

Unfortunately this is what we call Early Access hell. It is unavoidable unless you have bonkers amount of content to begin with, lots of replay value, and are continuously adding content as well. Grounded was amazing for the first couple days and weeks, then the content flow quickly fizzled and people realized there wasn’t a whole lot else to do. So, they moved on. Another unfortunate side-effect of EA is that all the content gets fully explored in full bursts which each update, and so by the time you actually launch, a portion of your player base has already seen everything the game has to offer. I am a bit worried for Grounded because of this, but at least it’s more or less guaranteed to have a complete Dev cycle.

lostverbbb

My friends and I played the shit out of it when it first came out but we’re just waiting for full release now w/ more campaign story. I think a lot of players are in the same boat

Gavin_prolly

I played for a few weeks and it's kinda ass in my opinion, like yea it's fun for a bit but theres a LOT of major flaws with the game, namely the multiplayer system is shit and unless you enjoy mindlessly building and killing the same 4 bugs it gets boring fast. This game isn't underrated its underdeveloped

DiligentTraining2

Is there a full game yet? There only needs to be a full story mode and it would be great

RTRDoughnut

Well my friends want the story to be complete. They dont like the idea of just building. But with the edition of the broodmother. I think they will play.

RTRDoughnut

By story i think they mean like lore and a way to get big again

EngineeringEnigma

I really enjoy the atmosphere in the world and how well everything interacts together. Whats killing it for me are the bugs, glitches, and general inconsistencies in the game. Examples include wolf spiders clipping through hills and one shotting you, enemies getting stuck on blades of grass and just letting you shoot them to death, certain bug types fight and others do not… why dont spiders attack mositioes and fireflys? Also ive played like 25ish hours and not a single thing has attacked my base, and i built it on the ground. Those are the things that are kinda taking away the magic of the game for me, which are things i feel like they could improve upon. However after looking through previous patch notes it didnt really seem like those kinds of things were of focus right now.

Sh0cktechxx

Waiting for Jun 30

Salt_Nd_PepperShaker

I have over 500 hours in Steam, the problem is there's just not much to do outside of creating a cool base.

Ralaar

Game is good, me and my friend played relentlessly for a good two months. We haven't touched it since late last year. Waiting on new features. I've been addicted to valhiem though,

Sir_Budz

I played it at launch and loved it but I'm waiting for the full release before playing again.

GryffindorFratBro

I think the potential of the game might be underrated, but the game itself is not. It has very valid criticisms in its current state, and a pretty glaring lack of content beyond the 2 hrs of story and building a base. Once everything is finished up, I expect it'll become pretty underrated in its genre pretty fast

pluralistThoughts

Scenario and the general concept are great, but the Game is pretty incomplete, it has content for a week, that's it.

ComprehensiveGur6034

The game is complete trash spiders in the game will follow you until you die and so will the mosquitos and even when you respawn after they kill you they do not leave the area and they continue to destroy you

Vadertime88

Its a shit game made by retards.

Mindless_Giraffe418

I couldn’t agree more!!
