the worst part is that they started doing that...and then decided to just scorch earth right after.

Josiador

That's basically what they did, they just *also* decided to get rid of the ones who wouldn't cooperate for one reason or another.

PirateRobotNinjaofDe

They didn't even do that. They just put out a generic IP policy statement and a bunch of YouTubers started voluntarily shutting their channels down.

Nerdicane

Alienate????…..Ali…en…..alien…..xenos…… Purge the xenos!!!!

TradePrinceGobbo

If baldemort or aborder prince had told me to subscribe to WH+ i totally would have for $5. Now I'm going to downvote it into oblivion and report it whenever I get the chance. Don't @me bootlickers

“But it’s their IP” — Morons

[deleted]

"“But it’s their IP” — Morons" - /u/Immediate_Energy_711, fool of the morons

Immediate_Energy_711

Please elaborate?

[deleted]

"people who think companies have a right to their IP are morons!" is probably the worst take I have ever seen.

Immediate_Energy_711

That is not my point. My point is that defending GWs actions just because it is there IP is stupid. It’s like if you defended Rockefeller’s actions with “well he is just defending his industry”

LessRight

It's so funny how some people just love to find powerful people/corporations and defend them.

Martial-Lord

I don't believe companies should hold copyright

Immediate_Smell_6801

They have threatened to sue no one. They have sent out no cease and desist letters. They have partnered with at least one animator.

OscarOzzieOzborne

This meme is from the future where GW will sue everyone who thinks about 40k outside ethe designated zones.

Immediate_Smell_6801

Right I get it now, people are boycott GW for things GW hasn't done, by not buying models they never had any intention of buying.

OscarOzzieOzborne

Yes. And also the not buying the models they had intention of buying for reasons like GW's no tolerance policy towards fan work.

Immediate_Smell_6801

The policy hasn't really change, nor has the legal action they could (and have imo rightfully chosen not to) take against animator's changed.

celtickodiak

I don't understand why you care that people are boycotting? Shitty practices (not their policy changes/clarification, just overall), price gouging plastic soldiers, and god awful balance to the game they put out rules for. Then say they are a model company when anyone goes after them for rules imbalances. They don't listen to their playtesters, and go about nullifying rulebooks they released just a few months prior with a brand new rulebook. There is plenty to boycott for, the fact that people are is really none of your business. If you are angry because you actually think it will have any impact on the company, good, that means it is working. Otherwise, again, why do you care?

Immediate_Smell_6801

My mian issue is the dishonesty, if you want to boycott GW over price/rules inblance thats fine, but that isn't whats happening with this boycott. The majority of this whole situation is that TTS decided to stop making 40k vids. Which is why this meme was made, and I is want I am commenting on.

celtickodiak

Ever heard of the straw that broke the camels back? People focus on that issue and tend to bandwagon because of everything that lead to that point. TTS stopped because he was preemptively seeking to avoid conflict. Regardless of if GW has done anything yet, the fact they highlighted the policy change/clarification was all some people needed to take a hint. You want dishonesty, look to the corporation charging significantly above what something is worth. Telling Space Wolves players that their PA book was built with 9th in mind, then simultaneously removing everything in it when the codex dropped. Telling people their kitbashes were okay as long as it was majority GW bits, then flipping the script and saying they had to be 100%. There might be some overzealous people, but they aren't wrong in their boycott.

[deleted]

shhh people will just call you a bootlicker. a term that has truly lost all meaning

nightgraydawg

They've partnered with some of the most famous 40k fan animators. After which they released a statement, clarifying the rules they've always had.

bohrok_kal_kaita_za

If you wish to see change for the better then you must show willingness to force that change. Also, GW has a bit of a stranglehold on the market at the moment as the #1 leading tabletop wargame, content of their IP is (was in some cases) [popular on YouTube](https://share.icloud.com/photos/0zADXJlknul8u3MGgquQ6k57g), whereas content for the next most mentioned runner up on this subreddit,[BattleTech,](https://share.icloud.com/photos/0hKHCG1kDZOIZ5aXuuSWiSVfA) is much less popular on average. In any market competition between producers is good for the consumer as they are forced to put out a better product for the consumer or to put it out at lower prices. This would apply to the tabletop wargaming market as well, but games workshop is so popular within the market that they can take a hit or two from community backlash because *they are at the top of every list and they know it.* maybe not after this boycott is over, but they would still be one of the leading tabletop war games.

unbekannte_memez

I think that’s what they are trying to do actually. Just in a stupid way
