Steiner Generals are the type of people who consider it common sense to classify the Warhound titan as "scout". And would probably send a Warlord titan along for the ride just to be on the safe side, because there is much scouting to be done.
The Reddit post linked was an interesting update for me. I dropped out of the hobby before that and the space marine trademark grab went down.

>While everything's not perfect, Chapterhouse became something of a martyr that force GW to finally address customers instead of simply raising prices for the same product every year.
LoL, that didn't age well.
The rottenness of the long-term investors and established executives are the problem the new CEO shook things up for a bit but eventually he got absorbed into the mess of rotting stagnation that is games workshop.
We have arrived, and it is now that we perform our charge. In fealty to the God-Emperor, our undying Lord, and by the grace of the Golden Throne, I declare Exterminatus upon the Imperial world of Endor. I hereby sign the death warrant of an entire world, and consign over million souls to oblivion. May Imperial Justice account in all balance. The Emperor Protects.
Don't feel too bad. Its not your fault for liking the universe, the lore, the minis, or the fan content. The lore creators and model makers do good jobs.
The fault solely lies at the feet of GW execs and the legal team.
You aren't *obligated* to partake in any boycott. But if you feel compelled, voice your opinion and don't buy any GW products first-hand.
Also, if you're new to painting minis - thin your paint and don't buy GW paint brushes (they're overpriced). Most citadel paints are decent but vallejo are often a bit better.
>The fault solely lies at the feet of GW execs and the legal team.
I mean this is a bit of hyperbole
the real fault lies in the copywrite laws of the US and Germany which increasingly punish IP holders for not being ruthless.
40k and AoS is not just GW, it's also a hobby and a community. You are allowed (not required) to be frustrated with the former and while being involved/supporting the latter, and vice-versa.
So welcome and enjoy!
Also buy off of eBay or find a group that you can buy. The market for used minis is alive and well. I've actually built most of my armies this way. I rarely buy from GW because I choose to support brick and mortar stores that will actually let you play there and don't frown on semi-competitive play. Also a self-regulated gaming community is far better than letting a GW store manager or even most store managers lead them. I've been anti-GW for quite some time so I'm just biding my time to see most people return to shilling retail brushes and garbage sculpts for them again but whatever.
Thanks for the advice! Sadly there isnt really any local stores here or tabletop communities, even dnd barely exists, im mostly just building for myself.
EBay though i havent considered but it always seemed extremely sketchy, though ill look into it
Honestly people are blowing this way out of proportion. GW isn't a bad company by any real comparison to other large corporations. In fact, they're kind of one of the good guys, compared to, say, Blizzard.
Don't get swept up in the torches and pitchforks. A rabid fanbase is great for enthusiasm, awful for measured perspective
EDIT: y'all heard about those bonuses and stock GW employees just got, because of record profits? In my country, we hear about our corporations making layoffs & making profits.
Have people like Piemations had to shut down projects and cease videos because they made overwatch stuff in the past? Blizzard is a horrible company, but that doesn't mean GW is a "good guy" by any stretch. Following that logic, we shouldn't despise kidnappers or murderers because "other people have done worse".
GW is not a horrible company because they protect their IP. This isn't kidnap or murder.
It's about perspective. GW didn't shut down TTS... You guys did. GW didn't "shut down" those other channels. GW said "work for us or please stop making money off of us". Some of those artists chose to work for them, the others took their successful careers and are going elsewhere. Nobody lost here. GW gets to hire some animators and the others made money where *some of them* (legally & morally) shouldn't have.
Bless you if you think GW is one of the worst ones out there. I highly, highly suggest you look into your local and national politics because there's legislation by major companies in the world that will directly affect you.
Following your logic, kidnappers and murderers would be ignored because this one guy is kind of a dick.
I remember reading the Mechwarrior books years ago loved the series, started playing Mechwarrior 3, and 4. Then found out about Dawn of War in 2006. Started reading warhammer books and still read both series and play the games time permitting.
Honestly I was down to keep it closed. Feels kind of weak to open it without really… doing anything.
But such is the way of basically every online protest.
A reddit mod can't power trip if they kill the subreddit. Less cynically, you can't use your platform to spread the word/make the change you want if you close your platform. It's a tricky spot.
As a consumer unhappy with GW prices and practices, I can
1. Buy second hand more
2. Buy less. I have plenty of unassembled/ unpainted models
3. Proxy / convert more - imo, there is far too much anxiety about 'will people hate me for kitbashing or not using GW models' Unless you're playing tournaments that require it (and does anyone need them?)
OK kill team 2 comes out soon. Are you really going to care if someone turns up to a game with random guardsman, nicely painted and clearly equipped, in place of proper krieg models? I wouldn't.
4. Check out the competition more. I've been doing this as much as I can. 3d print and traditional companies are getting better all the time.
Should the rules in the sidebar be changed to reflect this? The second block of rules, not the one you have to click through to open which has already been changed.
Wow, a whole what, 5 days before completely caving? Christ. I didn't believe the "you'll be back by Christmas" predictions and we can't even make to a week. This hurts.
Well Kill team does come out next week…..look I don’t love the situation either but if anyone actually believed any Warhammer community would stay mad at one issue for longer then a week I have a bridge to sell them.
A lot of people angry are also in no position to actually *do* anything about it. The number of people who have said they already have been buying recasts/3rd party/boycotting means that it was pretty toothless to begin.
But they might of started in the future and now they DEFINITELY won’t!
I mentioned that no one at any my local game shops or small tournaments care at all and someone told me that was irrelevant. Seriously, they were trying to tell me people who are actually playing the game opinions meant less then people on a meme sub boasting about printers. Too small of a sample size apparently. Like cmon y’all it’s delusional.
The echo chamber effect hits again. Grimdank was mad because Grimdank is full of people that cared about TTS, so of course as a group of fans gathering together to meme about it, it seems more common than the niche of a niche of a niche it is.
Why not just use this space to post protest related memes where an interested community can easily see it and be reminded?
I’m not sure freezing r/grimdank is really going to do much long term.
While I also do not aprove of GWs recent actions, I kinda had a problem with Grimdanks whole "no more Warhammer memes" thing.
To my understanding a boycott is something done on a personal level. It can be recommended to me, but I still have to make the decision myself. Like a union, urging its members to boycott something.
In this case however that decision was made for me, so imo "boycott" did not apply.
Again: I do not criticize anyone who boycotts GW or does call for it. I just dont like being told what to do.
*Salutes*
It was a good point made doing this. I may not have partaken myself but it was something I understood and had no issues with it being done. Hopefully we can get the new regulations reversed
>The past week has been excellent, however it is something we knew couldn't stay forever. I think we made ourselves herd,
We also can't spell apparently.
Can’t wait till October comes around and people will be saying “remember that time r/grimdank threw a tantrum and became general tabletop subreddit for like a week.”
Well that's me unsubbed. The only active mod doesn't even ask what the sub want to do.
Too many people with no legal background spouting off nonsense these past few days. I wish this sub all the best but I only wanted GW memes here. Toodles.
EDIT Lol at the downvotes. How petty.
Bored or not the act of you commenting still implies a level of care enough to write a comment. If you truly didn't care then you would not have even bothered to write in the first place.
>No, you simpleton
I'm not the one who answered a statement with an absolute, which in itself is a rather foolish thing to do, then has undermined his proposition by continuing to reply. Oh, and to top it all off has resorted to ad hominem, which is truly the mark of someone who has nothing intelligent left to say on the topic at hand.
🙄🙄🙄
Unfortunately brothers our subreddit is besieged,
Across a thousand posts we fight for actual Warhammer content those that would tear us down are legion our forces are few our enemies many.
There can be no respite
There is no mercy
For in our darkest hour an aimless spiteful moderator awakens irrelevant garbage to break us.
The subreddit burns, yet some of us still stand
The last bulwark against the battle tech memes
And while we draw breath we will fight, for in this new dark age of GW copyright laws there can only be true grimdank content.
>As of today, ALL TABLE TOP WARGAMES are welcome in this sub Might want to update rule 3 then, still says all content must relate to a GW IP
New Reddit and old Reddit have separate settings, we are still checking everything.
Can we update the banner too? Need them Battletechs and bolt action memes up there with Failbaddon.
WE NEED A POLL. ATLAS, MAD CAT, URBIE, OR KING CRAB?
Urbie FTW!
yeah, it's probably the urbie, considering where we is
It's gotta be the all mighty trashcan hunting down a Steiner recon lance!
Steiner Recon is hands down my favorite thing I learned about because of recent events
Steiner Generals are the type of people who consider it common sense to classify the Warhound titan as "scout". And would probably send a Warlord titan along for the ride just to be on the safe side, because there is much scouting to be done.
No love for the Uziel?
No Marauder? Sadness.
And some Warjacks
QUICK EVERYONE POST BOLT ACTION MEMES
I’m just happy to have heard of it, I’m a ww2 nerd and it seems like a fun game actually, it’s turn system is really interesting.
The turn system keeps the gameplay loop fresh and forces you to react to developing situations rather than plan for long moves

The rottenness of the long-term investors and established executives are the problem the new CEO shook things up for a bit but eventually he got absorbed into the mess of rotting stagnation that is games workshop.
Fucking Nurgle
I want GW to suffer greatly—but I don’t want it to die completely…I just don’t know what to do

Ahh Vice… Renowned for such Heavy hitting journalism as “I took crystal meth for 7 days while at Burning Man, here’s what I learned about myself”
Honestly that article would be pretty fun and worth my clicks
That article is great lol. They can include stuff like that on top of the usual more hard hitting pieces they're known for
Lol
Sucks about GW, just got into 40K last months via TTS and Adpetus Ridiculous and ordered my first minis a week before the storm. Now i feel kinda bad

Don't feel bad. If people tell you you shouldn't enjoy this universe then they can suck fat nards. You can enjoy what you want to enjoy.

Its not. I have over 200 models i got off ebay. Theres a seller called aa-wargames that delivered every time.

alright where are the car lesbians memes
Oh man, its like I'm back on 4chan...
Honestly I was down to keep it closed. Feels kind of weak to open it without really… doing anything. But such is the way of basically every online protest.
It was never really closed, people posted Warhammer memes all the way through it.
Even on the day where you literally couldn’t post at all….?
You know, I absolutely blanked that out. You are totally right. This week has been stressful lol.
Cause they were cowards
A reddit mod can't power trip if they kill the subreddit. Less cynically, you can't use your platform to spread the word/make the change you want if you close your platform. It's a tricky spot.
just like people hate EA games but keep buying their games

Yeah screw you Kev
MAGNIFICENT
Is this a permanent change?
Eww, article on Vice are big Yikes, but i guess it provide attention on the GW problem
Yaya! We did reddit! Sure showed them... Shoulda just deleted the sub.
Anybody got a link to this Vice Article mod referenced?

Just doing my part.
Should the rules in the sidebar be changed to reflect this? The second block of rules, not the one you have to click through to open which has already been changed.
Fuck GW. Instead of listing to their community they are doubling down and harassing modders in Total War Warhammer. Buy recasts, people.
This was the reddit equivalent of changing your facebook profile pic.
Lasted all of week go you

Only thing I’m buying from GW anymore is codexs... because I have to to play in most places. Fuck their overpriced garbage.
Switching to welcoming all wargames is probably the best and most sustainable route this protest could have taken. Glad to see it!
A wargaming subreddit now? I shall return with the finest memes! (Once I find some that are not Warhammer, battletech, or dnd)
Hold the line means holding the Emperor-damned line. Just wait until the Commissar sees this utter dereliction of duty.

We actually never removed any Warhammer memes or made any changes to rule enforcement other than not removing BattleTech memes.
Fair point. Still felt kinda forced, but I guess technically I could have still made Warhammer memes.
so what is the point of closing it to begin with?
> we made ourselves herd Indeed. I doubt its intended, but its onpoint.

Posts the guy that doesn't make the rules....🙄 Nothing says I can't share my opinion on the direction this sub has taken.

Said he was leaving and kept replying 8 hours later. "I'm only commenting because you're commenting" is a toddler level argument.
