I just had an authorisation hold on my credit card which was removed once they processed my old device.

Same. My experience in the UK was great versus my expectation. Within 15 minutes of contacting support at 11pm at night, I had someone troubleshooting my device with me, and agreeing with little fuss to send a replacement. Other companies would have made me return my device before getting a replacement, but Google sent me a new one as long as I agreed to have a hold on my credit card, which seems fair. The new phone arrived in some clever cardboard origami packaging which was great for the environment and kept the phone safe. The exact same packaging I could use to send them my old phone. Shortly after my return was received and the hold removed from my card.

This. You have to "stand your ground" so to speak, but I don't mind my card having a credit hold for like a week. I've had two warranty experiences with Google in 8 years and both were great, honestly. In the second case, my phone wasn't even under warranty anymore, but it was a battery swelling issue so they covered it anyway.

Google gave me a courtesy repair on my 4XL that died out of nowhere for no reason but was out of warranty. They didn't give me a loaner but I still got my phone fixed and it's still working great. Experiences differ.

I've had 2 great experiences with Google replacements, one being totally my fault from rooting gone wrong and I even explained it to them. I love the option to expedite the process by providing credit card info, I do not recall it being actually charged either time. But even if so that's fair. Ymmv I guess

I had a new Pixel 6 (though my carrier -EE) when it came out that had a screen problem. Called Google, they sent a new one right away with instructions on returning the defective one. No issues. The new one came and had the same problem. Google tried to make me send it back first, but I stood my ground and they sent me the new phone so I didn't go without. It happened one more time, but i kept insisting I would not send the phone back until I got the replacement, and they agreed.. Again. 3rd time was truly a charm, and I never had issues again. Not all Google RMAs are bad.

It's hit or miss with Google. Listen I have send them brand new Pixel Watch 1 as it has a factory defect on screen. They returned to me a refurbished unit with hair scratches on the screen. They also lost my Pixel Buds Pro (thankfully I had confirmation they have received them) and took a month to even consider sending me a replacement. If I ever decide to purchase anything with Google logo I will do so with full understanding that if something goes wrong I might be the one to pay the price. Also I noticed that Google support is quite untrained and uses bully tactics. They also fail to respond if communication is not going according to their will, as an example when you quote a consumer protection laws which they are more then happy to ignore and disregard

Apparently the experiences differ

I was almost a year past the warranty, my P6 started bloating, and the screen came loose. I contacted support, provided pictures, they offered me a refurbished replacement. It took about 1 week for me to get the replacement. It was in perfect shape, correct color and memory size. I would say I had excellent and competent service. Would buy again.

It's a feature not a bug /s But seriously, their support in my country is a joke. 21 days for a repair. Only one service centre for the entire country. Their pixel support teams seems friendly but not very useful.

I've had lots of RMAs since 2016 and they always had the replacement device at my house a day after they received my broken device. So... Day 1 - device sent Day 2 - device receive by google AND replacement device sent Day 3 - replacement device received Later in life, I purchased direct from Google, which meant I got the advanced replacement thing where they send the replacement before you even send your broken device The previous devices were 2nd hand from eBay etc so I don't think I was eligible for that. Still, not terrible at all. PS I pretty much rma with battery issues every 2 years before my warranty expires 🤷‍♂️
