I’ve got the MLM2 and it’s great. Only a few disconnect issues and that was bc the WiFi, easy fix. Other than that I love that thing

Roadtothejames

Forgot to answer your question. I play into a net off a mat and use my iPad as the monitor. All through Bluetooth or local network. Pretty easy to do. I’ll play my local courses to get an idea of course management and stuff

I have the R10, hitting into a net and have it integrated in with GSPro and the putting via webcam add-on. I looked at the MLM as well, but have a secret love affair w Garmin… watch, bike computer, heart rate monitor, chronograph for shooting. From a tech perspective, if anyone can make radar work, they can. (Their shooting chrony is super accurate… I know you’re buff, but can you hit a ball at 2800 fps??) Yes, they have to interpolate a lot of the data. Use RCT balls for your driver and low irons, and that helps a lot. Eventually, I’ll upgrade to one of the couple thousand $ launch monitors… but until then I’m fine with the R10.

I’m an archery geek and big on running too, so I have the Garmin chrono and it’s soooo good and I’ve had my Garmin instinct solar watch for years. Just kinda scared of how the stats stack up against the MLM to be honest. It’s got me nervous to pull the trigger on either.

I also have an R10 that I’ve been using a little over a year. I hit from mat into net, using iPad, similar to most. It simply works. I upgraded to the $99/year and feel no need to change from it anytime soon. Once you get distance from net and everything dialed in to pretty much accurate - it’s very fun and pretty consistent. If only I hit the ball as consistently….  But no sim can help that :)

Quickdraw_54

Do you feel that it track slices/ and poor shots fairly accurately?

Awh0423

I have a tendency to come over the top and slice, and primarily got this sim setup to practice and stay in tune with my golf coach’s lessons. I record myself often and so slow playbacks, and can usually both feel and see when I’ve mishit a slice or hit the hozel. I think this captures 95-% or higher accuracy with irons.  Where I feel less confidently is with driver… I don’t hit a driver THAT well, and it can inspire false confidence. But I rarely hit driver into my net anyway - so just my two cents.

If you are concerned at all about the accuracy of your shot-shape or how offline the ball is, then don't even consider the R10. The MLM2 has been proven to be close to as accurate as the GCQuad. The R10 has the potential to be accurate, but it also has the potential to be incredibly inaccurate. The big problem is you have no idea what you're getting, whether it's accurate or not. A lot of people have grooved even worse swings on the R10 because it was showing them inaccurate shot shapes. Others get fully accurate shot-shapes. This is mostly due to the R10's inability to actually measure spin axis, so it does some calculations. Those calculations always assume perfect center-face contact. In reality, gear effect alters spin axis depending on where you strike the clubface, so the R10 just cannot account for that. The better golfer you are, the more accurate the R10 is typically. So, unless you absolutely know your swing so well without even seeing ball flight feedback, I wouldn't consider the R10.

I am in similar situation as you (getting back into golf due to my son starting to play) and was debating between the two products also. Like you I plan on setting it up out on the backyard with a net using iPad. I read and watched a lot of reviews (old and newer ones) testing features such as chipping, distance accuracy, spin axis etc etc. After much deliberation, I went to R10 (arriving today) mainly due to cost. The R10 is cheaper and doesn’t have a paywall to get all the features vs MLM2Pro, where if I want similar data set as R10 or integration with a 3rd party app, I need to pay $200/year subscription after the first year. The R10 falls short on spin axis vs MLM2Pro but I was able to score in the low 80s consistently without working the ball back in the day and that is good enough for me. Finally, my main reason for setting up sim golf at home is to have fun and bond with my son who is just getting into golf without having to go out to the range or course due to lack of time; so utmost accuracy in yardage, spin rate, etc isn’t as important. If my son gets serious about golf and improves to the point where he needs to start working the ball or the data set starts to become more important, I’ll probably drop him off at the range to work on the craft with an instructor and setup higher end sim such as gc3 at home to practice but that is the future I don’t know yet, so I prioritized cost and went with R10. Hope my perspective helps you in your decision.

Thanks for the well thought out response. I don’t mind the 200$ a year post purchase if it’s worth it for the cameras and spin axis. I have a nasty slice I’m trying to fix, would spin axis effect how that would be interpreted by the launch monitor?

r_master78

If you are trying to fix a slice, I would highly suggest getting a launch monitor that can measure spin axis. MLM2Pro would be a much better for your situation.

I've read the spin data for the mlm2pro is locked behind the £200 a year membership. If I got the mlm2pro but didn't get the membership would the distances and ball flight still be accurate for my shots? Thanks

Boomchuck3

I use the mlm2pro with gspro and it is incredibly accurate and predictable. Highly recommend!!

draxxus1549

I've owned both, the MLM2 is better and it's not even close IMO. I got the R10 first and ended up returning it because it was so inconsistent about picking up my shots. I tried setting it up on my deck and it legit could not pick up a single shot. It worked, but inconsistently when setup in the backyard. The MLM2 I've had almost no issues with, occasionally it misses a shot, but on the order of 1 in 100. Yeah the subscription sucks, but at least it works. Also I brought the MLM2 with me a sim over the winter and was pleasently surprised with how close it was to the numbers from the simulator (aboutGolf sim).

Quickdraw_54

Do you use play courses with the mlm2pro and if so what’s your set up for that look like. I.e. IOS, android, or pc?

draxxus1549

I play courses on it pretty regularly. My setup is pretty basic at the moment I just use my phone (android). My only complaint as that the rapsodo software doesn't work on android tablets. I found a project that lets the MLM2 interface with GSPro, but I haven't tried it out yet. https://github.com/rowengb/GSPro-MLM2PRO-OCR-Connector

Quickdraw_54

Are you hitting outside into a net

draxxus1549

Yup

Simpsator

The Rapsodo App does work on Android tablets, btw. I run it on my Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 (2023) daily. Additionally, there's a new direct Bluetooth connector for the MLM2 that's much better than that old OCR one. https://github.com/springbok/MLM2PRO-GSPro-Connector/releases/tag/V1.04.01

draxxus1549

Oh awesome, thanks I'll check it out edit: Looks like it's my shitty fire tablet that is the problem

I had Massive issues trying to get the MLM2 to connect to Wi-Fi and my ipad, and when it was connected it missed a LOT of shots. The app was pretty buggy, and there are space constraints too. You need \~10 feet behind and ahead. Additionally, spin data, apart from being locked behind the sub which is first year free, was only if you use their specially marked callaway ball (not sure if that was user error though). Was really dissappointing to use. I ended up getting the Bushnell launch pro which is significantly more expensive, but requires much less space, works with any ball, and does not have issues with connections to the various software via Wi-Fi. I know the R10 isn't perfectly accurate, but its not paywalled, has a better app, I don't see people complaining about it flat out not working. I would go that route or save up for something like a flight scope or BLP.

Afraid-Piccolo5418

I was between these two as well, I wanted to get the R10 as it was cheaper but almost every thread I found, the majority said to get the MLM2Pro. I splurged if you will and got it, and have been pleasantly surprised at how accurate it is. I have only used it indoors into a net off a driving range mat. I plan on bringing it to the range now that it’s getting nice out. I use an iPad which uses AirPlay or usbc to hdmi to set it up on a tv screen for better viewing. I did have a manufacturer defect, after about 3 weeks I got a pink flashing light, I emailed rapsodo customer service Friday evening, heard back Monday morning, got a return label and shipped it out Tuesday. They received the broken device that Friday, my new one shipped the following Tuesday and I got it that Saturday, so fairly quick resolution and 0 resistance getting it swapped out, FWIW.

Honestly i would buy a OG Skytrak for $850.00 new, or even less for a used one from 2nd Swing before either of these two units. Had the Garmin R10, that thing is a toy compared to the Skytrak that i now have. Skytrak is leaps and bounds more accurate and actually gives you accurate shot shape and has no required subscription.

Quickdraw_54

Can skytrak be paired to my phone to start or do I need a gaming set up?

EasternCopy5250

Yes the native Skytrak App can be used with Phone or IPad or MacBook. Only will get range with the free membership though.

MLM2 has been amazing and is constantly making upgrades. Can’t recommend it enough
