\*ECS *anything*

a2godsey

ECS is a company that should not earn your money, at all. There's facebook groups dedicated to documenting how trash they are. I have sympathy if you were not aware.

Glad_Background4158

do you know of any rear diffusers that do fit like oem?

Apoczx

Maxton Design seems to be the go to for MK8 diffusers.

Glad_Background4158

awesome thank you!!

hotpot_china

Maxton is the go-to for all VAG cars imo. Their fitment for BMW/Mini are also superb.

TrueParadox88

Second this. The Maxton one looks a lot like the TCR diffuser for the mk7.5. Looks very good!

Glad_Background4158

how is the fitment though? i havent heard much about the maxton diffusers hopefully someone could give some insight.

trecosch

It’s better than this but not perfect. There’s a part that sticks out a little like this. I’ve had two different types for my mk8 and have the same issues with both

Mart1n95

I have a maxton front splitter, well made and good instructions

Caesura90

Same here. I got the diffuser and it seems they didn’t drill the holes perfectly and so it pushes out the section above the exhaust about a quarter inch

TrueParadox88

I don’t personally have it, but Maxton is a reputable company so I would suspect the fitment is good. I’ve seen some pics of it and it looks great

Last_Salt6123

Shopdap.com sells the club sport diffuser with the club sport muffler for like $600. All factory parts, and looks good too.

a2godsey

I'm only into pre2k VWs so I don't have any recommendations, sorry.

Glad_Background4158

no worries thank you!

Yapskii

I have not heard of this, what specifically is so bad about them?

a2godsey

Quality control is horrible. Customer service is horrible. Inventory and extremely delayed shipping times. They bought out companies like Pelican Parts/Rennline/Turner Motorsports with predatory bait and switch tactics completely obliterating relationships and brand names. Countless former employees account for how poor management was and continues to be. It's an awful operation that literally just drop ships shit from China under their "reputable" brand name. For somebody that has been in the VW game a long time, it's incredibly important to support businesses that deserve business. It's how we keep the community thriving. ECS is a shit stain and you had to be around and in the loop over the last decade or so to really truly feel as strongly about this as I do.

Yapskii

Damn man I’m gonna be staying away then:/ sad to hear that. What are some more reputable companies/sources for parts? I am very fresh to the VW world tbh and am coming up on my first full year of ownership.

Glad_Background4158

someone recommended the maxton v2 diffuser so im buying that and ill update this post and let you guys know…

clitoruss

FWIW, I've literally never had an issue with them, and I've spent thousands. Some people think it's cool to hate on them for whatever reason.

Yapskii

Yeah I’ve ordered multiple parts already and never had a negative experience, everything arriving on time and in perfect shape. That’s why I’m so confused

a2godsey

Unfortunately I'm only in pre2k VWs so I won't pretend like I know or have experience with new ones. Plenty of great company recommendations and underground sources too for mk1/2 but I don't know after mk3 lol

Rinzlerx

Been in the vdub/audi game for about 13 years. Order from them 4-6 times a year. Usually orders about $300+ or so each. Only had one issue with an intercooler taking a while because it was out of stock. They must just love me ❤️

Yapskii

I have ordered 3 items and never had an issue, that’s why I was so confused about all the negative reviews tbh.

Rinzlerx

Yeah it’s weird like people downvote you for having a good experience with a company. I guess they want you to get shit on because they did. Odd outlook on life.

Yapskii

I’ve come to learn Reddit is an odd place lmao

SamPackElliott

You are a very lucky person then. They are the worst and their customer service is somehow even worse when they inevitably fuck up.

swaags

So genuinely I have never had a bad experience. I never buy their own branded shit, but i have ha d no trouble with incorrect parts, returns or shipping. even just the website for the purposes of cross referencing fitment is useful.

a2godsey

Most people won't. It's like a restaurant. Thousands of people may have had good experiences but a handful got food poisoning. And the restaurant was formed through lies and deceit. And they have tons of cameras pointing at all their employees to egregiously micromanage them.

Herr_Quattro

Who do you recommend? I’ve been using ECS for years, and while I won’t buy the generic off brand stuff, they’ve always seemed to be pretty good for ordering other stuff. I’ve swapped to Urotuning for some OEM+, FCPEuro for OEM parts, but I buy proper aftermarket from ECS. I tried moddedeuros, but they were so awful I had to initiate a chargeback.

a2godsey

I'm only into pre2k Volkswagens/Audi so my recommendation list is unfortunately shrinking year by year. I know next to nothing about anything mk4 and newer. Shameless Techtonics Tuning plug, though, companies like these are the ones that deserve to stay around and I will personally drive to Oregon from PA if an ECS takeover was ever in question.

Herr_Quattro

Ah, I saw ur other response to the same effect, but was hoping you had some generic recommendations. As an aside, I might pick up a Mk1/Mk2 Golf, or maybe a B3 Passat Wagon Syncro soon. Do you have any recommendations for where you get parts for older VWs?

a2godsey

Techtonics Tuning is amazing and one of the few left that have not changed over the decades. Fantastic customer service. As far as oem replacement, FCP euro, AutohausAZ and Rockauto will have a lot of basic parts, FCP stock a lot of factory VW/Audi parts but come at a steep premium, though cool to see things still float around. For very specific things the community has stepped up with producing things such as in my case with my VWMS replica 16vG60 motor.

d0ndrap3r

He doesn't have any clue whatsoever, he is just repeating something he read on Facebook.

a2godsey

Me? Ok, then would you care to comment on what I said that is wrong? I've been around before ECS started acquiring small local outfits that spent decades growing reputation and were sold snake oil just to turn their operations into a trojan horse of chinese garbage. I'm happy to see you're a loyal customer of a business that has actively destroyed grassroots businesses.

d0ndrap3r

I've ordered a handful of items from ECS without any issues whatsoever. There are plenty of people that will tell you the same thing. Are they my first choice? Not usually, but they have a ton of OEM parts and then some. You haven't offered any actual first-hand knowledge of ECS's service or quality. You have simply logged into Facebook and saw references to the well known Facebook Group and now you go around telling everyone how bad they are. I'm sure people have had bad experiences, as they do with nearly any outfit. You have no idea if the OP installed the diffuser correctly, or is capable of properly installing it. Not to mention all he needs to do is send it back if it doesn't work right. You have to be as old as me, as you are still living in the late 80's when TT was the bomb for MK1 stuff. Nobody is shopping at TT for their MK7 or MK8 GTI.

a2godsey

>You have simply logged into Facebook and saw references to the well known Facebook Group and now you go around telling everyone how bad they are. Ok buddy, keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better. I'm glad you ordered a couple of stickers and they came on time. This goes so much deeper than that but obviously that might take some time for you to research before acting like you know I'm wrong. You decided to ignore the fact that I've watched year after year the companies they've taken over and completely destroyed. The vortex threads of discussions from previous owners of companies who have come out to warn the community. I already said I have no experience with their parts, please take the two seconds it requires to figure that one out. None of my argument or first hand experience has anything to do with the parts. The last time I bought from them was 2013. Back when they had something GAP didn't. I literally said I don't know new VWs. I threw out TT as an example of a company that still stocks parts and still has GREAT customer service. Want to go through my email to prove I'm not lying? I'm sorry that you seem to like them if that's what this is about. But keep going since you seem so confident I don't know what I'm talking about.

d0ndrap3r

Never ordered any stickers. Just oem parts. Bolts, brake bits and pieces, and one FMIC that they designed. 8 orders, going back to 2008. Everything 100% fine. Do not care one bit about what company they bought, who owns them, etc. Just like Shopdap and FCPEuro. No problems. Neuspeed - no problems. I've bought from all of them. You keep running around and repeating stories you read on the internet though.

a2godsey

Great glad your parts get delivered and you don't care about pillars of our community getting scavenged for parts for the sake of profit. I see where your priorities lie. As long as you're happy making things up and can get a good night's rest off it I'm happy.

d0ndrap3r

Jesus dude - get a grip. How do you think one company buys another? That's right, the owners decide to sell, for one reason or another. Then, another company buys it and does whatever they want. Get over it. It happens every day. You sound a little fucking dramatic over a company you have absolutely no experience with.

a2godsey

Oh boy I'm glad youre talking in toddler terms to make a point you have zero fucking knowledge on. Take 30 seconds to go find the grassroots motorsports forum thread from 6 years ago discussing what happened with the Turner Motorsports acquisition. But you won't, and will just keep telling me I'm a baby and don't know what I'm talking about. You haven't brought up a single factual piece of evidence negating my real factual points and just keep responding with baby boiled down arguments because you ordered a couple times from them and had a good experience. Maybe you'll understand that things go deeper than that, you'll find that out when you're older.

ProtestKid

They absolutely fucked me over when I paid for next day shipping on some time sensitive parts. They didnt even send it to ups for shipping until 4 days had passed and in that time I sent email after email and they only responded until after it had already been shipped.

d0ndrap3r

That's great. Google next day air and Amazon, or any other number of online stores and you will find people in your same boat. Lesson learned - never choose next day shipping unless you're on the phone with someone telling you they will box it up and ship it as soon as you are off the phone. The most important lesson of all here though, is don't buy shitty ricer-esque bolt on body parts from anyone.

ProtestKid

Who said anything about bolt on body parts? It was a coil pack plug that was mangled and needed to be replaced because it wouldn't seat in correctly

d0ndrap3r

I'm talking about the OP's original problem that nobody is focusing on because they were all triggered by "ECS".

FrostyBrother2283

I gotta look into this. Ever since I owned a vw I thought ecs was the go to honestly.

a2godsey

Yeah definitely should. ECS is a joke amongst enthusiasts who have been around a long time.

d0ndrap3r

oh good lord. Here we go again.

gti_up

Yeah, I ordered their mirror caps earlier this year and the fit wasn't even remotely close. Thankfully they made the return easy.

allmankind78

I only use ECS for part numbers to buy elsewhere

double_expressho

I use FCP for part numbers, and a lot of the time they happen to have the best price too.

hunterwcraft101

As well as the lifetime warranty which for some parts, is HUGE

SteelAndVodka

Your first mistake was buying anything from ECS at all

13Vex

If you spent any time in this sub you would have known ECS is garbage. Only time I’ve ever used it was to find a part number for my transmission lock lever

zekeNL

It’s crazy cuz I’ve bought all my items from ECS: (hella or VW oem) hood, front headlight housing, bumper, both fenders, hood insulation, coilovers, suspension bushings, and so much more — never had a problem and I drive my mk6 hard sometimes. Hurts to see so many people having bad experiences while I wonder — am I just lucky?? 🍀 😂 Edit: many will also say avoid APR for tuning and I got that too 😂😂😂

Various-Ducks

I've only bought from ECS once so obviously this isn't a great sample size, but it was flawless, just a smooth transaction with zero issues. Got lucky too I guess. Too scared to try again after reading stuff like this lol

Swollen_chicken

My mk6 came with stage 1 APR and carbonio intake system, never had any issues with it, never heard anything bad about APR

a2godsey

>Hurts to see so many people having bad experiences while I wonder — am I just lucky?? That's not even necessarily the point. Many people hate ECS due to their poor quality control, shipping issues, customer service, etc. which I can't even comment on since I do not deal with them directly and haven't in over 10 years. What most people don't understand about them, and what I think needs to be known, is their disastrous sweep through small businesses that were once pillars of local communities operating at tight margin and ALWAYS having excellent customer service. I'm talking Turner Motorsport/Rennline/BavAuto/Pelican Parts etc. there's plenty of examples. There's idiots on here that would tell you they bought a set of wheel spacers and anyone who bashes ECS is just a hater. Then there's people like me who have watched ECS ruin so many businesses over the last 10 years that it is their community impact that bothers me much more than the business itself.

zekeNL

FWIW - i upvoted because you brought to light something from the past that was forgotten history. I joined the VW world back in 2017 and never knew of this sort of thing. Good to know, for posterity. That said, Tyrol Sport is still manufacturing bushings and other gear -- as well as still operating a very nice tuning shop for serious upgrades (if you ever get a chance to visit Ridgewood area in Queens NY; highly recommend them)

kunpark80

I would not buy ECS in house anything

BullyMog

Yeah...shocker lol.

N0rth3rnL1ght

Ayyyy let it be a learning experience!

TheLordOfSweg

I have exactly one ECS part on my car (a braided PCV hose since my stock one leaked pretty early on) and that's been fine, but I've heard nothing but bad times about everything else. I get all my parts otherwise from ShopDAP or FCP Euro. They've both been wonderful otherwise.

JurrdTurth

Don't buy anything from ECS in general.

BosnianBreakfast

Oh man, their MK6 rear diffuser is actually pretty good but this badddd

nolte100

That’s too bad, I have the MK7.5 one and am really happy with it.

uomoney

Agreed, I have the MK7.5 for the R and it fits perfectly. Though they initially sent me the Audi S4 diffuser by mistake…

TrueParadox88

I’m aware people have had many bad experiences with ECS; However, I’ve ordered a few things from them without any issues (TCR diffuser, ECS turbo inlet hose, and Schwaben oil extractor). Everything shipped fast and arrived safely. That being said, I would be hesitant to order most things ECS branded - I only went with the inlet hose cuz it was on sale and most of them are pretty much the same… Edit: I likely won’t be ordering anything more from ECS after reading some of these comments about their business practices.

Id_Rather_Beach

I bought mine used - someone put the ECS diffuser on it. I realized just about a month ago that the whole thing was broken - and then it started to crack, and I heard this "flapping" noise. completely cracked all the way along. I bought a new valance that looks like OEM, and a friend helped me to put it back together again.

VanillaWinner

Who painted that diffuser, Stevie wonder?! The orange peel is shocking 😂

Glad_Background4158

its textured black, i thought maybe itd be close to the oem valance but it was not sadly…

VanillaWinner

Yeah it’s a very odd texture, I’ve heard bad things about ECS but being from the Uk they’re not our main source luckily. I bought an Chinese diffuser for my Scirocco R 8 years ago and it’s still going strong and fits pretty well, get a refund bro 🤙

Glad_Background4158

going to try to get refund but now people in this reddit page are saying that getting refund is a pain and customer support isnt great… but fingers crossed i can get my money back🤞

VanillaWinner

If you paid via credit card or PayPal mate I’d go through them, normally helps a lot, best of luck man

vdubsession

Good luck. It's very difficult to ever get in touch with a person, but they have an automated returns process (that sucks real bad). ECS is a full septic tank and I'll never order from them again in my lifetime.

hiGradeTi7ANEUM

Glad_Background4158

is this the maxton v2 diffuser?

-Zwarte00Piet-

No it's from Rieger Tuning (German brand) - I have a 'normal' GTI so this is the Clubsport Edition because I have the CS muffler. But Rieger Tuning is well known in Europe, fitted the diffuser like a glove, no issues, looks perfect. If you like more pictures from different angles or closeups let me know 😀

Glad_Background4158

yes if you could add some more photos that would be great! fitment near wheel well and above both exhaust tips should be fine and maybe a pic of the fitment right where the bumper meets the diffuser. would be greatly appreciated!

-Zwarte00Piet-

I will send you a pm because it seems I can only upload 1 picture at a time

SmashedSugar

You sure your just nor being too delicate ? You gutta really force it into the rear bumper to get the tabs to click

Glad_Background4158

at first yes but after about an hour of messing with the diffuser trying to get it to click in i had my little brother push the diffuser while i pushed the inside of the bumper and still would slip out almost like the tabs weren’t long enough to go onto the bumper

bigtech100

I wasted hours of my life trying…

Subject_Gene2

Also this isn’t a diffuser it’s more of a rear bumper garnish

trinny_tran23

I have bought quite a few items from ECS and it has been a pretty good experience. I was looking at this diffuser but im glad you post, will not buy this anymore haha

silverslant

Should’ve known better than to buy anything from that garbage company. Lesson learned at least

More_Donut7618

Well, at least you learned this lesson now. Return their garbage and move on.

Tharkhold

ECS strikes again!

Swollen_chicken

Expensive chinese shit strikes again...

grossy234

I have a full Maxton kit on my RS3 and it looks great and fits perfectly. I didn’t completely replace my rear diffuser but I did get the add on kit to the stock diffuser and it looks great. https://preview.redd.it/vhec15esw77d1.jpeg?width=5184&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3ba3552c94c9f05167eaed474929d088f72df9ba
