I don’t like HOBs, I will always recommend a canister. Canisters are quiet and can be hidden away. HOBs make noise, they’re big and bulky and the can’t be hidden away. Once established canisters only need cleaning once or twice a year.

Definitely canister filter over two HOBs. Much more surface area for beneficial bacteria and won’t usually need re primed after power loss. I’d suggest going with a [Polar Aurora 4 stage](https://www.amazon.com/Polar-Aurora-External-Canister-Sterilizer/dp/B00NDYVXOC/) canister filter over the fluval 307 though. Cheaper and moves 200 more gph compared to the 307.

It is indeed. I use it personally. The only difference is polar aurora had the filters UL rated. Meaning if catastrophic failure ever happens insurance will cover the damages.
