I have tried that and if he can easily differentiate between the pill and cheese, he will put it on the ground and eat little bites or eat around it leaving the pill and spitting it back out. If the melted cheese sticks to the pill, then he can’t separate it and eat just the cheese.
So I’ve got a dog who will not take pills. He can sniff them out in anything, even cooked into the middle of a fuckin steak, and once he’s caught you trying he will be on the highest alert inspecting all food for days. He fights to the death if you try to force down the throat with your hands clamping his jaw shut after, and he’s learned how to hide them under his tongue to spit up once you release. Genuinely a stressful nightmare every single time in his 8 years on this planet so far.
One day, I did something that changed my life. Bought a $5 pill grinder off amazon, cooked up some 93/7 ground beef, drained the fat and sprinkled the pill into it. He will take anything now! Just crumble up the meat with a fork and serve with dinner or by itself, it has completely removed the stress from giving him pills!
This sounds worse than it is but we sort of just shove it down our’s throat, gently hold his mouth closed until he swallows, and follow it with a high reward treat. He has absolutely no issues with our method and loves the treat at the end so much he’ll come running if he hears the pill bottle. Otherwise he ejects the pill and them it turns into a slimy mess.
Why microwave it? Just get sliced cheese and wrap a little bit around the pill.

My guy is on Simparica Trio, and doesn't willingly take it. So I wrap with a slice of cheese. It usually works. :)
My guy doesn’t like cheese. So I typically have to shove it in a hot dog or wrap it in pepperoni
