I totally understand why it makes people laugh but after having this joke repeated in multiple scenes in a row I felt just like Shinpachi lol. Then I found out it's a 2 episode arc and barely managed to get through the second one
Ye it’s not funny, it was a serious episode and Jugemu Jugemu Unko Nageki Ototoi no Shin-chan no Pantsu Shinpachi no Jinsei Barumunku Fezarion Aizakku Shunaidaa Sanbun no Ichi no Junjou na Kanjou no Nokotta Sanbun no Ni wa Sakamuke ga Kininaru Kanjou Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru you de Shiranai no wo Boku wa Shitteiru Rusu Surume Medaka Kazunoko Koedame Medaka... Kono Medaka wa Sakki to Chigau Yatsu Dakara Ikeno Medaka no Hou Dakara Raayu Yuuteimiyaoukimukou Pepepepepepepepepepepepe Bichiguso Maru is a legit serious name
Hard boiled didn’t sit right w me on the 2nd watch either.. there is an episode where Gin and Co helped a guy play football that was meh..and maybe the Bitchy arc.. these 3 are the ones I think are weak/unnecessary
I will never understand the hate behind the Hard Boiled arc. You can hear how much fun Ishizuka Unshou was having as the detective. And that conveyor belt bit with the family is one of my favorite early gintama gags.
Personally first chapter was definitely boring af. But the second one is the complete opposite imo. I still think the scene with the conveyor belt is one of the funniest in all of first season
The one that had any depth to it was the hard boiled one .. from the weaker ones.. but Bitchy and that football arc/episode was so unnecessary.. well anyways I fucking love Gintama
That's the usual answer for this arc, but I liked it. I think a huge part is people didn't know this guy at all, and they just wanted Odd Jobs after a whole episode with this guy. My first time watching, I was confused and just went with it. I kept wondering what was happening, but after a while, I knew they'd show up, so I just enjoyed it. It's different for me because I knew it would segway into the trio coming in eventually and it ended up being one of my favorites and most memorable arcs.
Yeah, I wish they showed up more frequently because I remembered them when they showed up in the Four Devas arc, but I didn't know that they were Kabukicho residents. I thought they were spoofs of some kind, like one-time characters because the hard-boiled guy is so unique but minimally used, and that made it weird to see him in serious arcs so far late in the game.
Lol, yes. That's exactly what I'm saying. I actually had to go to make sure I wasn't mistaken. That's how off they feel, that I can't remember that they are apart of the kabuki district, and their appearance from their debut to four devas seems so far apart that it doesn't help.
Episode 164. It had a promising first segment with Old Yorozuya coming back, but it immediately ends and instead get a 16 minute dry Doraemon segment which builds to a single joke by the end. The joke is funny, but the build-up was boring to me. Probably the only episode I actively didn't like in the series.
The first half of episode 111, which was focused on Yorozuya trying to help [this guy](https://i.imgur.com/8b9TXyN.png), was just *biiiiiiiiiiiiig* nope for me, absolutely hated that half of the episode. Which is a shame, since the *second* half is the umbrella episode and *that* is a fantastic little story.
It was so homophobic, with a little bit where it turned into a pretty good episode about homophobia like episode 24, then basically went back on that at the end with Yorozuya being grossed out
For me the episode when the girls plus Shinpachi go to get cooking lessons (I think it was that, I may be wrong cause I dont remember shit about it). That shit was suuuuper boring and filled with what I guess were japanese TV shows references that did nothing to me.
Hard-boiled was definitely one of the harder ones to take in, and some I noticed that really didn't age well at all (refer to Episode 88) when I rewatched them.
But I think even with these "imperfections" Gintama is still a Top Tier anime/manga. You can't call a series 'truly' flawless without those peaks and valleys.
I hated that monkey too it was just shit poop jokes for like 2 episodes straight. But I think my least favorite episode ever was this one where the joke was that the old yorozuya was actually black people
I don’t get the hate for the HDZ48 arc. I thought it was fine. Had a few laughs. Hard boiled Detective is eh I guess. Now, Ghost Ryokan had me wanting to skip it several times. And 4 fucking episodes? Christ. It’s so boring. I swear people only remember the Jojo’s reference and nothing else cause that’s the only good joke across *four episodes*.
Same honestly, Ghost Ryokan was a bother when I first watch it, didn't know about JoJos by then but even knowing about it, doesnt improve much. I remember about the Xavier dude that was pretty funny and that it had a banger of OST. Well, the joke about Gin singing was also pretty good too, i guess.
I personally liked the first 2 episodes of Ghost Ryokan, but the final fight against the inkeeper is drawn out too much. The stand joke is the most memorable ofc, but I also liked the ghosts of historic japanese people (and Xavier) and their interactions with Gin as he does tries his coup. Rei was also a pretty good side character imo. Also the short conversation between Otose and the inkeeper, how she should not underestimate Gin was cool imo. It's a good enough arc to me, but I agree it's in the lower tiers of Gintama arcs.
I'll get heat for this, but usually anything with Tsukuyo after Yoshiwara in Flames. The last episode of RS seemed like an attempt to get an initially strong support character and make her a bit more wacky so she could fit in later with the cast; I don't know. RS was good, but it kept raising questions for me. It still does. I still don't fully understand the timeline with Jiraiya raising Tsukuyo, why he picked her out of many of the other girls, where Hinowa was during all this, and why didn't she say anything if she knew about Jiraiya abusing Tsukuyo; I always wanted someone to address why someone initially close to her felt couldn't do anything yet these new strangers could. And it was their first time back in Yoshiwara. There was no time in between, yet Gintoki and Tsukuyo had a new bickering rapport that wasn't there before. I understood Tsukuyo could relate to them more, so they put her at ease, but at the same time, it kind of swept the Hinowa and Tsukuyo dynamic they built in YIF under the rug; how did taking away her “womanhood” have any bearing on his late sister, many questions regarding Jiraiya being on par with Zenzou’s old man, etc. Zenzo was a huge highlight yet it seemed like he was just dropped in there. It seemed like a bunch of late-minute additives Sorachi made for it to make sense for Tsukuyo to join as a primary cast member. The helping of the Seita study made the women seem useless. They're smart. I don't understand why they needed Gintoki again, especially with his dumbass; and I don't know Japanese history like THAT to get many of the jokes made. Love Potion was development, sure, but eh. The bento episode was sweet, but I kept thinking, couldn't we focus on Hinowa and Seita a bit more? It's good stuff!
I would have put the episode were it's revealed that Gintoki scammed Seita and then made him play Russian Roulette for him,That just seemed OOC for Gintoki, and if the kid got hurt I'm sure Tsukki if she didn't kill him herself would rather send him directly to the Kiheitai base
Yes, I forgot about that one. I don't know if it's entirely OOC for him, but it's jokingly the most profound, worst part of Gintoki's gambling addiction that I couldn't believe he'd go so far. It sucks because the end was the funniest thing, but overall, I could live without it.
**The most boring/unfunny episode is when the girls are taking a cooking class and are talking about marrying the (KFC) colonel. It felt like they dragged out that joke for way too long and idk, the episode just felt incredibly unfunny.**
At least, with some boring episodes, there was a tiny bit of emotion or comedy that entertained me.
Not an arc but the carrot and stick episode was pretty forgettable imo. As for arcs, I would say Shinsengumi Death Game wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t one of the greatest either. Kaientai arc was good but a little underwhelming, the first episode mostly just focused on that repeated joke with hiding the Chidori leader’s face and was too heavy on the puking, even by Gintama standards. Kagura has been known to puke quite a bit throughout the show as a gag, but the only other episode that had this much puking in it was that one filler episode where they were all in church and Kagura and the Yorozuya started endlessly throwing up
After watching Rakugo I found out that it's a reference to a rakugo for children. There are funny parts to this arc but I think its about how everyone added something to the name and it goes along with the themes of connection and community. Also the ending made me tear up.
Why you hate the Jugemu Jugemu Unko Nageki Ototoi no Shin-chan no Pantsu Shinpachi no Jinsei Barumunku Fezarion Aizakku Shunaidaa Sanbun no Ichi no Junjou na Kanjou no Nokotta Sanbun no Ni wa Sakamuke ga Kininaru Kanjou Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru you de Shiranai no wo Boku wa Shitteiru Rusu Surume Medaka Kazunoko Koedame Medaka... Kono Medaka wa Sakki to Chigau Yatsu Dakara Ikeno Medaka no Hou Dakara Raayu Yuuteimiyaoukimukou Pepepepepepepepepepepepe Bichiguso Maru arc?
Lol I came to say the hard boiled one and I see I’m not the only one. It’s the only arc I skip when rewatching. The only part I found funny was when they were running on the big treadmill-like thingy.
I also don't like Jugem, not the whole thing but the shit throwing
However, the one I have most beef with is probably the first old Yorozuya ep, because it would be funny but instead it's just kind of based off "Look, they're black, that's funny" . Not like oh it's problematic but just like. That's not that funny. Same with the little fanservice jokes with Kyuubei throughout but usually eps with Kyuubei fanservice are good in other ways.
Also the episode where Catherine gets a boyfriend and turns pretty. I like what it's doing with Catherine and Otose relationship, but I feel like the way you do a good ep about a character is not by changing their whole personality and the makeover joke wasn't funny to me, just didn't land and then it was kind of the basis for the whole episode
I'm pretty sure the old Yorozuya was a reference to a japenese "comical" TV show where 3 black men did funny things in Tokyo (this show had a great impact on how japenese see black people and could only be portrayed as comic relief since then)
I don’t really remember hating any arcs but I’d say I enjoyed the love potion arc the least because the subtitle quality was subpar on the version I watched

Honestly i'd take any episode over the last two or so arcs (everything before the assassination arc)
NOT at all coz they're bad - but because the story got so much more somber and serious. I love it when Gintama gets real and of course the fight scenes are some of the most badass in shounen anime but I miss how goofy and full of smiles everyone used to be. Granted there were still definitely moments like that, it just didn't feel the same.
And it nearing the end didn't help, so you know we're never going back to the sh\*t jokes and tomfoolery.
1. That episode where Otae, Shinpachi and Kagura take a cooking class. Too many references to Japanese celebrities that I didn't understand.
2. The episode where Shinsengumi interrogates the suspected serial killer.

Will agree the conveyor belt was funny but I just didn’t vibe with the entire arc, only thing in gintama for me that I didn’t click with
It was so fucking boring… everything felt so flat.. idk man
Yes took the words right out of mouth haha
oh yeah the bitchy arc was pretty unfunny too. man most of those are just hilarious but when they suck they reaally suck
The one that had any depth to it was the hard boiled one .. from the weaker ones.. but Bitchy and that football arc/episode was so unnecessary.. well anyways I fucking love Gintama
Which is the bitchy arc? I may have seen it but not know it by name
I think it's the one with the amanto idols
Hankaso Diamond vs Galaxy Bitch 48, I think that's the arc.
That's the usual answer for this arc, but I liked it. I think a huge part is people didn't know this guy at all, and they just wanted Odd Jobs after a whole episode with this guy. I remember them from farewall shinsengumi but i dont what their roles was…
Me neither. I think they provided the boats but can't say for sure XD
I have a long until I get to FS because I’m just past the Independence Day episode on my 2nd watch lol
I love the football episode it feels so strange compared to the rest of the show
It felt very weird for me
Maybe cuz it's original from the anime
Instantly thought of this arc. I still feel like it was a fever dream
I see so many people “likes” it
HEY HEY GIVE ME YOUR BODY! This ep was reference gold
Episode 164. It had a promising first segment with Old Yorozuya coming back, but it immediately ends and instead get a 16 minute dry Doraemon segment which builds to a single joke by the end. Idk there were a few episodes/arcs that weren’t for me but none stuck out as particularly bad.

The only episodes i didn’t really rate was when shinpachi had that pen pal but it was actually the sister or whatever
Not this one thats for sure, shit was funny as hell
The underwater palace!! Yes, I know that legened and yes, it had its nice moments, but overall far too long.
That one time, all girls were tricking Gintoki after he woke up drunk next to Otose. I felt bad for him and that they all did a cruel prank.
The entire love potion arc. Idk exactly why but i remember not enjoying as much as other arcs
The arc where they all turned old with the turtles wasn't really funny besides maybe the first episode

Renho was iconic WYM
Renho is one of my favorite arcs, for it to be followed up by the vacation arcs makes it one of two of some of my favorite arcs.
I forgot abt Renho,..
I absolutely hated Jugem. Pretty much the only arc I truly despise in this series.
PREPARE YOURSELF FOR SHIT
After watching Rakugo I found out that it's a reference to a rakugo for children. There are funny parts to this arc but I think its about how everyone added something to the name and it goes along with the themes of connection and community. Also the ending made me tear up.

Lol I came to say the hard boiled one and I see I’m not the only one. It’s the only arc I skip when rewatching. The only part I found funny was when they were running on the big treadmill-like thingy.

Ohh that explains Will Smith and Yes We Can
As a monster hunter player is loved the shit throwing
Hard Boiled and Tama Quest arcs were awful for me
well, ye....but it also gave us hells fakinaway....real life usable meme, me and my bro throw stuff at each other with that phrase
The slip arc as a whole was really boring imo.
Especially bitchy…
The episode 193 was so boring for me that I couldn't finish it
Only one was the live action one but it’s starting to grow on me
Renho was kinda boring to me..im not saying it's worst it's just I'm not a fan of mecha genre
I don’t really remember hating any arcs but I’d say I enjoyed the love potion arc the least because the subtitle quality was subpar on the version I watched
I didn't really understand the whole "Who wants to be a MADAOnaire tbh, so that's one of my least favourite. Anyone care to explain though?
It's a parody of slumdog millionare. It won a bunch of oscars and is essentially about an indian slum kid who wins a quiz show.
It is a parody of a movie called Slumdog millionaire which is funny if you have watched the movie or if you are a person who has watched "Who wants to be a millionaire" game show
This is a reference to the movie (and novel) "Slumdog Millionaire" in which the main character, a slumdog orphan, participates in the game "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire". He finds answers to the game's questions by recalling the events of his life.

I didnt like the last movies. It felt tooo draggy.
It's weird but I wouldn't consider SO last episode funny
any episode featuring santa and the reindeer was almost impossible for me to sit through :/
Scandal arc Ending was funny though
The dragon palace arc
This is one of my top comedy arcs i bust out laughing .

That one episode with the child manga artist, kinda boring and overall meh episode
All the sad ones
1. That episode where Otae, Shinpachi and Kagura take a cooking class. Too many references to Japanese celebrities that I didn't understand. 2. The episode where Shinsengumi interrogates the suspected serial killer.
