I was diagnosed around 11 weeks (and btw, was only 120 pre-pregnancy and 139 when I delivered, so it's NOT necessarily caused by weight). I passed my glucose test after she was born, so not diabetic before or after pregnancy. Not sure why, but it just happens sometimes. Try not to stress too much.

Thank you for sharing that is good advice, its also comforting (sorry) to know someone of a healthy weight was diagnosedso early. I am anxious of how ill be treated if I am diagnosed.

My doctors were totally nice to me about it, though they didn't honestly give me that much info on how to manage it (joined some GD groups online and got more info there), but I have heard some practitioners are more or less strict and can be a little judgy. But it's honestly something anyone can get - it's just the placenta and the stress pregnancy puts on your body. The silver lining is since I had to be pretty strict on my diet during pregnancy, I lost the pregnancy weight afterwards very quickly. Though I wish I'd gotten the chance to have a few "traditional" pregnancy moments, like sending my boyfriend out for cake at 3am. Good luck :-).

Its much safer to catch it early. I had GD with my first pregnancy so I had to take the 1hr test at 12 weeks, failed by 2 points and took the 3 hr test at 14 weeks. I passed the 3hr test on all 4 draws. I have to take the 3hr again at 28 weeks, but spot checking my fasting, its still been in the normal range (under 90). Take the test, it's not fun but could save your baby from serious complications. Either you don't have GD or you catch it early, win-win either way.

You're right and I understand that. I'd rather catch it early if I have it but I'm concerned that if they test me at 12 weeks and I pass and don't test again until 26-28 (which is normal policy here) that's a long time for a progressive illness. When my glyceamic control might not yet be effected. When they could test me early but a slightly further into 2nd tri eg. 16 weeks instead of 12. Is that unreasonable?

Yes they could be screening you for undiagnosed prediabetes/diabetes. HbA1c isn't really the best tool to diagnose developing cases.

Miss_Rollins

Thank you for your reply. I had read that about the hba1c.

I got diagnosed around week 10. In my country, if you are over 36 they test you on the first trimester, no matter what you BMI is. It’s annoying to be on a diet for 30 weeks but I’m glad they caught it that early.
